A Scribble Scrabble On Life: Laughed At A License Plate (And Other Mundane Things)

DSC_0129

Well this one time we were driving and some black sedan whizzed by and the license plate read something along the lines of GANDALF.

You won’t believe how disappointed I was. There was no pointy gray hat. SACRILEGE.

I’ve always been interested in license plates. I even had a collection of the weirdest ones. I think my favorite was FLYAKITE. Mom didn’t get the reference.

Welcome back to another post of the mundane with your not favorite mundane person. 😀

The past two posts have been unusually deep, for some strange reason.  Not sure why. My brain is funny sometimes. Anyway, I’m breaking that streak because I couldn’t post stuff like that on a regular basis if my life depended on it. 😛

DSC_0116
I dunno what I was doing here, but I definitely thought it was funny. XD

How are you, huh?

Ooh, looky- it’s SNOWING.  The sun was shining a few minutes ago. I wish I had my camera, but there’s no way I’m stepping out in in 10 degree weather. And that’s in Farenheit, too. It’s cold. It’s beautiful. It’s cold. I’m shivering. XD

Library stuff. The other day Dad was free from work, so the reprobates that were us kids drove to the library to “work”.

HA.

Work.

*dies* That’s kinda funny. XD As if I could actually get work done in a library. Leaving me in a place of books is like taking a two year old to a candy shop- you won’t emerge unscathed.

DSC_0124

I actually did get some homework done though- the nice librarian who knows me as “The girl who’s almost always asking for the obscure American titles” showed me to the encyclopedias, and I think I walked back and forth from my desk to the shelf like…. 20 times? Per hour? SCHOOL. WHY.

Came back home with…. um.. tenish books? Does one count comics? And I owe 2.80 to the library now. Oops. And my card expires in 30 days. *sobs* The injustice.

DSC_0119

I’m not sure whose blog I saw it on, but the book Because You’ll Never Meet Me caught my eye, and I spent an hour or so reading it. Mini review- the POVs are really great, the characterization is well done, the concepts are seriously cool, but as for the other elements, I’m still deciding. XD It’s a pretty good read though! I also read Girls Can’t Hit and it’s a surprisingly good read as well. *nodnod* Makes me wanna pick up a set of boxing gloves.

DSC_0118

Speaking of comics, I screamed unnaturally when the A4 TV spot came on during the Super Bowl. I didn’t even bother to stick around for the game. XD It’s coming and I shouldn’t be this excited, but I am. ENDGAME. AH. I’m too excited. 😛 Maybe also because I kinda get to nerd my family out with everything Marvel connect with my family a little more. 🙂 Although I’m not lying about the family part. I got my brother reading 2 comics simply by leaving them out on the shelf. He hates reading. XD I’m counting this as a score. It’s been decided that we’re now pronouncing Tony Stark “Sony Tark.”

DSC_0126

Spiderman can’t be more relatable.

Anyway.

Brief birthday related paragraph. My other brother, also known as the Very Loud And Unusual One Who Plays Electric Guitar And Drives Me Crazy went and decided to get older. Being the good sister I’m not, I ate a slice off his birthday cake. What, he won’t miss it. 🙂

Weather Intrusion. Wait, wait, THE SUN’S SHINING IN THE SNOW STORM *pokes head out window*

*freezes*

*dies*

*wakes up in Budapest*

Well, that was a mistake. 😛 I’m dying it’s cold. Sent hot cocoa over here! 😛

I’ve been desperately trying to catch up school-wise, which isn’t too bad if I just got my homework actually done, it feels like I live at this get up:

DSC_0112
Break down: Tiny black laptop balancing precariously on the edge of the abstract art couch is actually a DVD player. Main laptop is the thing I can’t live without due to its can’tlivewithoutqualites. Papers over there are the evil fatale assignments I had to go overtime to barely finish.

Which, I gotta say, is really, really nice, but it gets tiring over time. So what better way to switch things up than to say, do the art tutorials on The Art Lab?

Art Dump. *facepalm* Sometimes I question my sanity.

DSC_0120

I spent so long at that paintiiiing- and the marker bled through. 😡  Oh well. It was rather fun trying to be artistic- and my other brother said he liked it. But still. those clouds look terrible.

DSC_0121

See, the marker bled straight through to the next page! (Also, very sorry for the terrible lighting) But I actually kinda like this one. My first decent drawing in a while. I just might redo and frame that one.

DSC_0122

And then I had to go and waste all my ink on trying the spaghetti mountain thing. It was HARD. And I ran outta marker. But it kinda looks like I actually tried! Which is good, because I actually did try. Art is hard.

DSC_0123

*gags* WHAT. EVEN. IS. THIS. ATROCITY.  YUK. My eyes hurt right now. I was trying Buttercup’s hair tutorial and thought, “ooh, this isn’t too bad, let’s try the face!”
What was I even thinking?

This offends everything in me that has an inkling of art sense. Why. Be-yuk. I suppose I’ll have to keep practicing to be remotely good. But that’s okay. Nobody’s an expert at first try. Take this as proof what whatever you’re doing is ten times better than whatever I could conjure.

DSC_0125

Conversations. I kinda wish people would take this mug at their words. Lately I’ve discovered that many times a lot of hurt can be avoided if someone just takes the time to listen. Many of the hurt’s been caused by myself too, which I hope to end. Tea doesn’t hurt. 🙂

Audiosmiths’ Release! We’ve been working very, very hard on this, and it’s finally out! Big thanks to Rebekah for taking on the editing work ❤ (also: was it hard getting an annoying Scottish accent that was probably incorrect? Answer: YES. VERY. ARGH.)

To sum up. Sometimes, random posts are really just random. They don’t make an ounce of sense, and honestly, you gotta ask yourself what’s the point.

I guess I don’t have any other than that after a long hard week,  people need a reason to smile again. If my recaps of an otherwise mundane life can do that, than I’ll consider this successful. XD It’s easy to look at the news and have your heart sink. But as Thor said:

DSC_0127

I’m telling ya, these comics have more insight then they let on. Maybe go read one sometime. 😉  So here’s your funnies for the week. It made zero sense, but hopefully.. I dunno, maybe it got you to smile. 🙂

DSC_0128

Have a good one, okay? 😀

January’s Over And I Dunno How

DSC_0088

Yup, I’m still trying to figure how that happened too. But 31 days have passed with the blink of an eye and we’re fully stuck in 2019.

It’s been an interesting month, that’s for sure.

DSC_0090

We welcomed the New Year the proper way: getting two big bags of popcorn and watching Lord Of The Rings.

I got to go on a retreat- and that was pretty relaxing. Fun. Peaceful. Plus I got to photograph the stars. 😀

dsc_0091

School started and we all collectively died.

Started working on secret project that’s pretty fun/death inducing.

The Long End aired and I DIED. BUCK- JULES- THE MELTSNERS- SKINT- WOW. Like wow. Mindblown. Mom wondered why I was screaming after the first part aired.

Started reading through the New Testament- and I’m in 1 Corinthians now! I think. Ish. Wait, maybe that was another translation.. huh..

Speaking of the New Testament, really enjoyed having Bible studies over videochat. 😉

A couple times I was sitting down to write posts but ending up watching something with my family instead. The posts can wait. But not my family, Incredibles 2, The Last Jedi, Antman & The Wasp, or Black Panther. Incredibles 2 was AWESOME. Also, if you haven’t checked out the short Bao DO IT. *dies* It’s so good. I’m watching that whenever I can, it’s just really really nice to have some non-stereotypical representation you know? 😀

There were 2 gigantic snowstorms and thus, two snow days. Which means freezing cold and beautiful pictures.

It also means getting to go sledding… even though.. uh… technically..

DSC_0103

I’m pretty sure that sign’s décor. Right? I mean, you can’t be a Canadian and not sled. Sorry. No can do. It’s like taking away Tim Hortons. As a citizen of this fine country, I was exercising my right-

Okay. Okay. Still, it was fun though. Hanging on for dear life as the elements attack you? *thumbs up*

DSC_0095

Had a bunch of people ask me why I was wandering around the premises in the dead of winter, wind blowing, camera out, in a skirt (as if that’s a bad thing) no less, taking random pictures. I guess I did look kinda weird- but honestly, I’m past caring. XD besides, I got good pictures. B)

Interviewed a bunch of kids and failed dramatically.

Released a new audio drama! 😀 Which you can check out on the Audiosmiths page here.

I guess this month has been about finding a balance. Some stability. I’ve had a hard time figuring out school, and as you know, blogging has been random, and there’s just been so much to process and sometimes, taking that one step is tricky. Y’know?

DSC_0111

But I think I’m getting there. Over time. 🙂

Anyway, it’s February now. Also the month I started blogging. *hollers and shrieks* how has it been one year since I started into this vast and crazy and wonderful and strange thing called blogging? I don’t know.

So I’m looking forward to that. As well as secret project 1 and secret project 2. And yes I have two. And no, I’m not telling you what they are. Yet. 😛

I think this post is done.

Oh wait, I still have to pick faves. Right. XD

Favorite Book

See the source image

I borrowed this way back in December and only now got around to reading it. smh I wish I read it sooner- it’s an sweet story about a girl who has OCD, and honestly, I really connected with her, even though we couldn’t be anymore different. I’d love to write this kind of book one day. 😀

Favorite Song

Do I honestly have to pick? You know as well as I do that I caaaaan’t XD- I actually have three.

Rend Collective’s Life Is Beautiful is beautiful. I think after like, the 20th time listening to it, I got my brother to use it for praise & worship- it’s that good.

And uh…. this is mushy, but I really liked Falling Slowly from Once the musical..

and  38 Planes/Somewhere In The Middle Of Nowhere from another musical, Come From Away. But I’m not linking that, too much mush for the day. XD (Actually, you probably shouldn’t check out anything from either of these musicals except The North Strand from Once. That one’s catchy. XD)

Favorite Quote

I think I like musicals more than I care to admit. XD

Now this post is done. XD Seeya on the next one!

Scribble Scrabble: It’s Not Even A Month And I Get Tagged

dsc_0118

So yesterday the lovely Tess had posted about a bunch of stuff, and in that post was a Liebster Award, which she tagged yours truly for.

Goodness, I haven’t had this tag in a while. This should be fun! 🙂

  **********Liebster Awardy**************

I know the rules. Thanks Tess, I’ll answer the questions, say 11 things about myself (boring I’ll warrant) and tag 11 poor people who never saw it coming >:)

dsc_0181

What was your favorite TV show/movie when you were a kid?

Oooh, boy. That depends. I loved Dennis The Menace, Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and Walker, Texas Ranger. Movies? Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Brave, um… Prince Of Egypt. The list goes on.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

I think everyone should get away from the city into the wilderness for at least a day and a night, to get back into nature. Having just from a retreat, I supposed I’m biased, but I sincerely believe fresh air and no traffic noises can help almost anyone

dsc_0046

What do you think is the best way to start the day?

Your favorite comfort drink and the Bible! Getting God’s Word first thing in the morning really helps get the rest of your day down pat.

What is one of your favorite smells?

This is gonna sound ridiculous, but I will have to say the smell of a hug. Not explaining any further because I don’t quite understand it myself. 😛

If you were suddenly put on a stage and told to deliver a speech, what would you talk about?

I would talk about how one life can change so many others simply by being, thanks to the ultimate life (*cough cough* The One Life *cough cough* Jesus’s life).

Do you think Wikipedia is a reliable source?

Like the general Wiki? I dunno. But for fandom wikis, they haven’t let me down yet. I’ve spent hours on AIOWiki and none of their info has proven to be false!

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

Oh word Tess, you ask good questions. Um, I’d say “you need to be the example for your friends.” Honestly, why pick one kid to have to suffer being the role model, simply because their dad’s in the ministry? Also when said kid is just the same as the others? Do ya know how stuck up I had to feel, and I didn’t like it? Bleah.

What age would you like to live to?

Bold of you to assume I actually get to pick. XD I don’t know. 21. Because then I’m old enough to vote and join American Ninja Warrior.

dsc_0112

What do you want carved on your gravestone?

Huh.. umm… “Here lies Jo, seeker of truth. The bacon crumbles were never hidden long because of this.”

Or, or: “Jo: Professional awkward dork, lover of God. That’s all you need to know. Besides that Mitch was a good character. And Buck is a victim. And that God really does save.”

Have you ever saved someone’s life?

O_O

Have I WHAT now??

Boy, don’t I wish! I think I came close when one of the kids I babysit ran into traffic and I yanked her away from an incoming car? It all happened so fast, I can’t really remember.
Opinion on chow mein?

IT’S LIFE. My family always gets a tray on Sunday afternoons when we’re so tired and our blood sugars are unhealthily low. It’s so good. I could eat that forever. At least I wanna try.

dsc_0111

Well, that was easy. 11 facts however? Pfft…

I’m… 1) working on splicing Hastrman, so expect that coming anytime now, 2) going to read 100 books this year (including books of the NT so that takes away 27 books) 3) reading through the New Testament til April (hopefully!) 4) panicking because to move up a grade this year, I have to study twice as hard as I did last year, 5) writing to pen pals because they’re fun and my old one moved and I haven’t gotten the address yet. 6) My mom and I have a tradition every year. She cuts my hair, and we listen to AIO. 7) It takes 2 1/2 episodes for a full haircut. I checked. 8) I whole heartedly support the “give Luis his own superhero movie” movement, 9) am looking forward to Thursday because NEW EPISODE, 10) have an uncle whose parrot was mysteriously plucked bald and 11) have taken a bottle of maple syrup and drunk a little. I’m Canadian, what can you say? 😛

Sa wakas, I did it!

Now for the 11 people… goodness, who on earth picked 11? Did they just go trigger happy on the “1” key?

What was your favorite TV show/movie when you were a kid?

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

What do you think is the best way to start the day?

What is one of your favorite smells?

Wherein I Start Being Patriotic And Visiting The Capital

DSC_0369

Yes, I know this is a midnight post.

Yes, I know I read too much.

And yes, I know I should be writing like any good vertically challenged writer should be doing.

Lemme just say, it’s good to be back home!

We drove into the garage at 10 something PM last night, and I celebrated by reading fan fiction until 2am. 😛

But anyway, the past two days have been filled with all sorts of awesome fun cold, and me being an unoriginal blogger (TM) I’m blogging about it. Because it’s fun. 😀 I’ve finished my bag of frozen raspberries and listening to some AIO scores, so, let’s get into it.

DSC_0150

DSC_0159

It only took a few minutes on the road to get into wanderlust mode, not that I’m sorry about it. Endless trees, fields and barns just get me excited, for some reason. And itching to finish Just Come Home. XD You know how they say half the fun is getting there?
They were right.
DSC_0146
The other half was just as fun.
Add really, really cold to that list and you got it down pat.
DSC_0165
DSC_0181
I’ve been to Ottawa once, when I was 7. That time it was night, it was chilly, and I had no clue just how beautiful this city was.
We technically weren’t even supposed to be in Ottawa. Split second decisions for the win.
DSC_0191
DSC_0203
The vibe here- well, the ambience, pick whichever fits you- was so different from Montreal. not that is was bad or anything. I dunno, it was just different. Fresh. Old and new and… inspiring.
DSC_0175
DSC_0163
It’s kinda amazing. To think that years ago, the people who founded your nation walked the same streets you stand on. Built the tower that you’re gaping at.
That a long time ago, it all started here.
And what’s weird, is that even though you’re not in a museum, history’s never been more alive than it is right now.
DSC_0183
DSC_0218
Yep, that’s me struggling in the magenta jacket. And yes, that gargoyle is ugly.
After a good half hour of freezing cold, we finally made it into the building to get tickets to see the capital building- only to be told all the tour tickets we’d get were in French.
French.
As in the subject I flunked in a year ago.
But when you think about the fact that the capital won’t be open to the public for another 15 years, French isn’t so bad! Right?
And no, no it wasn’t. 😉
DSC_0226
DSC_0233
The Eternal Flame was flaming all right- I forgot what it represents, but it apparently hasn’t stopped representing it. Good for you, old fire.
And heheh, I was messing around with angles. It seemed to be better than the selfies that everyone else were taking.  Though, taking a picture of yourself with a monument that stands for our rights as citizens, our freedoms, the blessings God gave us as Canadians (Or Americans or wherever y’all come from), with a reminder of what we stand for- that doesn’t seem too bad.
Except when we’re no longer sure just what we’re standing for, but here’s hoping we figure it out in time.
Was I being philosophical for a second there? Huh. 😛 Moving on.
DSC_0244
DSC_0229
FACE REVEAL!
No, my brother’s not a gargoyle, sorry. XD He’s way handsomer than one and no, you aren’t allowed to tell him I said that. XD I think the best part about this trip was bonding with family. I mean, we do have to agree on where to stop for WIFI, right?
And looking up at Capitol Hill, I think it’s called, I couldn’t help but feel a tad proud of what Canada means. Sure we’ve made some dumb mistakes and tax is bad and that Christian belt of people isn’t as prominent as it really needs to be, but it has some good things too. Like maple syrup. And snow. You know, some good things.
DSC_0239
DSC_0255
Pay attention to that statue to the right! 😛 The poor guy!
DSC_0221
My feet were cold, but my brain was working overtime to store all the architectural detail… everywhere! I love old buildings, no matter what style, and I practically jumped just turning around. A wonder I didn’t trip no anything.
Also, I dunno bout you, but I feel really sorry for Henry Albert Harper over there. Trying to save a gal from drowning and dying with her, at only 28. I gotta write a story about it sometime. It’s kinda sweet that of all the plaques they coulda picked up, they picked one random, lesser known hero.
DSC_0240
The streets were b e a u t i f u l.
It really was like walking through a story or something. I can only imagine what Ottawa looked like when it first started.
DSC_0256
DSC_0266
DSC_0263
I don’t know how my family managed to snag free tour tickets in French, but somehow, it worked out and we headed back to actually get inside. And that was awesome. If it wasn’t so cold. 😛 I really connected with those gargoyles, the poor guys stuck on the building for who knows how long. They look so done right now. Like I am with this post– moving on!
DSC_0282
And this is where all the huge arguments take place, friends. I wouldn’t know, because as helpful as our tour guide was, I couldn’t understand a single word he was saying. It’s not your fault Felix, you were great! Blame my total dunceness concerning any other language.
But seriously though. I’m learning French, and I’m gonna actually pay attention!
I bet my mom’s sighing in relief as she plans 7 days worth of French assignments at me. Have mercy…
DSC_0292
My absolutely no doubt about it most favorite part of the entire place was the library.
THE LIBRARY.
AHH.
Felix called it the bibliotech or something, and I’m pretty sure I spelled that wrong, but the library was so beautiful I can’t even.
AHHH.
DSC_0296
I mean, I woulda gladly spent the entire day inside the library, if it weren’t for the fact half the books were gone. For renovation purposes. Rats.
Also, all the designs were hand carved.

O_O
Moving on.
DSC_0333
The next part was the Peace Tower- as in the tower in front of the building, yup, that. I had no clue you could actually go and see the city- but you can. And it is so beautiful I could’ve been standing there for a long time if my feet didn’t hurt. XD We got up there by way of a small, dark elevator, and on the way up you could hear bells ringing.
Of course, I saved that in a folder of my brain for writing. It’s somewhere along with evil plans to take over the world and homework.
DSC_0328
DSC_0323
Outside of the elevator was something else to look at. Practically the whole city you could see from that lookout. It was something to marvel at, alright.  And looking up- ahh, there wasn’t anywhere you could look at and not want to take a picture of. At least for me.
DSC_0350
Not Big Ben, but just as wow- worthy.
And so is the height we were up at.
DSC_0349
If that was all we got to see, that would’ve been more than enough for me. If we’d come back down and drove off, I’da been more than content.
But there was more.
DSC_0287
DSC_0354
As one of the guides told us, one of the main reasons for building the Memorial Chamber (so sorry if I got like all these names wrong) was to never forget the first world war. They carved out stone and wrote down names, not expecting there would be another war.
Somehow the last fact makes me shut up and think really hard.
DSC_0362
DSC_0359
There were books all around the room, sealed in glass cases.
On every page are the names of every soldier who gave their life for the war.
Fathers. Brothers. Lovers. Scientists. Random guys.
People.
Sometimes you really need to remember that,  y’know?
I walked out with a new appreciation of living in Canada. Because the freedom I have, the freedom I take for granted, people died for that. Can’t forget. I owe that much and more.
Anyhoo, we drove back home, and I successfully managed to get my entire family into the AIO fandom (YAAAASSSSSS). 10 episodes! 10 episodes nonstop! While I’ll be ranting on that on Welcome To Odyssey, I would like to note with pride that my parents listened to an episode with Jason Whittaker and liked it. It happened to be Accidental Dilemma, and they were promptly worried about Jason exploding himself.
Very proud fangirl right here.
Ahem, this post in on the long side, wouldn’t you say? So I think I’ll end it right now. Thanks a bunch for sticking through the end!
DSC_0288
Wish I knew what was going on in this photo. But I think it’s beautiful.

If I Knew Then What I Know Now (Plus pic for BIBPC, carol, and linky to more of the blog tour yikes this title is long)

DSC_0065

You’re not the only one, kid.

Not by a long shot.

There is only one you you of course, the dorky quirky awkward weird laughing kid who’s just not the same from everyone else, but there are other people with your dreams. Your quirks. And your alarming obsession of Adventures in Odyssey, good gracious.

You’re an annoying little midge of energy, so yes, the haters were right.

But you’re lovable. Sorta. So the haters were wrong.

Also, the haters’ opinions don’t really matter, so keep that in mind.

I don’t know how to tell you, kid. I don’t know how to tell you that people will break your heart and what you thought was right is wrong and that things will change with the snap of a finger and you’re gonna have a lot of curve balls whizzing your way, so please learn to catch, kay?

Your “friends” are shallow, but be nice. Don’t collar the big kids even though you know they’re being jerks. If you do, don’t lie about it. Lying is evil. And don’t think you’re all that smart, why don’t ya? But do learn more. You’ll need it.

DSC_0070

Remember how you said you had nothing to live for? Ohhh boy, you be wishing you could take that back. Look around you. Look at the little miracle baby of the C’s, that little tiny thing that everyone thought was a dangerous tumor. Her? She’s gonna grow up to be a sweet little terror, and you’ll be chasing her around a hall more times then you can count. Good on ya for not wearing high heels.

Books are portals to another world. I’m glad you spend your head off in them. Also, pick up a pencil soon- you’ll be writing your own before you know it.

Love your family. Love love love them. They’re broken and not perfect, but still good. Also you’re a part of it.

Bacon crumbles exist. You’ll love them.

Good gracious, stop assuming things are gonna be carved out for you, like an easy puzzle. You gotta start doing things yourself and get it done. People are gonna depend on you whether you like it or not. And if not now, definitely in the future. So get used to it.

DSC_0071

You’re gonna meet people in ways you didn’t expect and you’re gonna pour your heart and soul into projects you would never have dreamed of doing. So attack that homework while you still have energy.

It does get worse.

It will. It will hurt so bad you can’t breathe.

But it will get better. I can promise you that. Don’t take my word for it. Take God’s.

Also, never ever ever skimp on the Bible. Ever. You’re gonna need that weapon. You’re gonna need to be armed and dangerous.

Uh, no, no, I didn’t mean to practice knife throwing, especially because that’s our last good knife. Thank you.

Things are gonna change. Not all of it will be good, but there will be good changes. You’re gonna meet people you can’t imagine life without and yet don’t like.

Okay admit it, you like that person.

DSC_0072

Write, my friend. You’ll love it. You’ll love making up stories and charries and daydreaming and plotting terrible deaths. Surprising, I know. And it’ll help you. So much.

No, no, screaming because of jogging pants and not jeans isn’t normal, no matter how much everyone thinks it is. Don’t be emotional when you respond. Calm down. count to ten. Punch that meanie in the nose. Don’t do the latter one because it won’t make you feel better. Instead… uh… I haven’t come up with how to handle that guy, but as Jesus says, treat them like you would a tax collector.

Run for your life!

Sorry, wrong context, friend. Speaking of, you do need to understand contest very, very well. But you pick your battles, and you stand up to that guy. To your fears. To that goal. To that line. You got this. Life won’t give you a bowl of opportunities and tell you to pick, so keep your eyes peeled for anything you find, and take it.

DSC_0073

Connie and Mitch break up. Tom Riley dies. Old Yeller gets shot. Iron Man gets hurt. The Baudelaires are confusing. The stories and life are similar in a way: they don’t go the way you expect.

Unlike the stories, your life story is being written by the Perfect Author, so never fear.

There is always a reason to laugh. I know there will be days when you’ll feel like drek, but trust me, you can find something to smile about. Care for something other than yourself, and do it a lot. Pray constantly. Pray continually. Don’t get out of touch with God.

Get stronger. Practice your high kick, especially on your right foot. It’s terrible. Push yourself to excellence, but stop for water. take care of yourself, and learn how to braid so nobody objects to your ponytail for the hundredth time in a row.

Observe people. Note their reactions, their fears, their movements, how they think.

Don’t be creepy about it though.

Man, there’s too much I wanna tell ya. Too much. Too much about loving and hurting and living and dying and reading and writing and fighting and resting and the time of day and how the year’s gonna fly by before you know it and Aragorn is brave and courageous but he is broken too and broken pieces can be fixed and people like Blackgaard will be defeated and-

…and you’ll find your way.

Jo

Well, another sign of my past is the above picture, friends, ^, which is also my picture for BIBPC. This category was so much easier, thank you Megan, tradition. And here’s mine. See, every Christmas Eve, we go on a marathon of AIO’s Back To Bethlehem, and it’s something I hope to be doing til I’m old and gray (and with those same cassettes XD)

4 days until Christmas Chances, people! Ahhh. You can catch more of Audiosmiths with Hannah and Enni’s lovely posts. Well maybe not Enni’s because she messed up my name. 😛 For now, though, I’ve taken a break from editing the audio drama and worked on a carol. I hope ya enjoy, bad though it may be. 😉

So Far…

DSC_0025

School’s been very mean to me. It drones on and on and on anon and then suddenly, “please prepare for a test on section 4A.” Woah, where did that one come from?

To be honest, I’ve paid way more attention to news on A4– Avengers 4, that is… and…

The.

Trailer.

Is.

Out.

Today.

People.

*mind explodes* I’ve been watching it for at least the sixth time today and I have too many theories that will probably kill me.

I’ve also been waiting for anything on Album 66: Trial By Fire and my head hurts with all the possibilities of 1. Skint kidnapping Buck, 2. Buck being adopted, 3. a literal fire. Also, we do need to ask the question WHEN WILL JILLIAN DIE?

DSC_0024

Life’s been hard. There’s been so much tension and tiredness and homework and questions and times when I need. to. get. out and anxiety about the future and frustration and perpetually gritted teeth and always having to push yourself harder and harder even when nobody could care less or has to and screaming and fighting and praying and dying and I just need some peace today and tomorrow and for every second Sunday in May and it’s so hard to believe God is good even when He is and we’re out of bread and I gotta finish and I can’t remember the dratted reference and I’m okay with giving up right now.

Don’t we all? Something tells me I’m not the only one who’s had one or all of the above and much worse. And then I gotta re-learn how to trust again. I gotta re-learn that God is good and He is love and He won’t leave when the guns growl, which is handy because right now I’m afraid I’m short of ammo. So if you want to swap prayer requests, let me know.

And nobody wants to admit that. Nobody wants to admit they’re a quitter. Everyone wants to be the tough hero who gets the job done no matter what the cost. I really want that. I want to prove ’em wrong and wrong and so wrong… even when they’re right.

I guess I’m learning that burden was never mine to carry. That it was God’s all along.

Maybe some things shouldn’t be posted. I know I hate that long post that just lines on about how hard and sad life is, yet here I am writing one just like that. Why am I doing this?

If reading this can help someone, anyone, then it’s worth writing this drek down.

So yeah, that’s where I’m at.

I’m staying up ridiculously late to reads books and waking up ridiculously early to write them. I’m skating backward and falling forward and laughing. And mailing a letter or two.

Oh, and I got up at the crack of dawn for a lousy rendition of We Three Kings, so if you’re interested in notsogood and notsobad music, here you go.

Been wandering around taking random pictures, snapped this lovely one (ha!) and I guess I’ll leave it here.

It’s not Instagram worthy.

It’s not Pinterest worthy.

Good grief that mirror isn’t even the cleanest!

Well, it’s life. The less people feel pressured to display a perfect life on the screen and actually live, the better. The far, far better. And I know I’ve been tempted to do that. To show this aesthetic rose tinted life that’s full of roses and daisies and is just so Chikfila sweet tea wonderful. But it’s not.

That doesn’t mean my life isn’t wonderful. Or that God isn’t working in it. Because He is. More glory to Him, and less to me. I’m 110% okay with that.

Until next time.

An Attempt At Newspaper Article Writing

Dear people of the internet, my sincerest apologies for bombarding you daily with this posts. As it is, here’s another one to bore you to death. A newspaper-y post. *sighs* The things this brain comes up with sometimes….

Also blame Writing & Grammar for making me write a newspaper article. Two attempts down below.

Your News From Out In The World!

(Disclaimer: Everything you read in this segment is false. Do not kill me.)

Scientists Trapped In Alaska During Snowstorm

IMG_0480

Juneau, AK. A swarm of white coats are stranded in Alaska after an onslaught of white stuff flew their way, grounding their plane, freezing their equipment, and turning black coffees into mocha iced cappes.

“I’ve never seen anything so bad in all my life,” shivered Floridan based meteorologist Ima Weatherman, taking shelter in an old hangar with 10 other scientists who are riding out the storm with our trusty source of information, the internet. “It’s really looking terrible out there.”

Indeed the temperature reached a frigid 10 degrees, which is a low in both Farenheight, Celsius, and my fridge’s temperature. One can only hope the conditions will improve for the scientists.

“We’re grateful they are in a position with enough food, water, and high speed internet,” an official told us in a private interview. “As of right now, there’s no knowing how long either will last, depending on the weather. Our local weather guys have been tracking this storm for about a week now. If we’re lucky, we should be cutting the red tape by next week.”

The scientists traveled to Juneau to research global warming.

(facepalming right now. okay, here’s the last attempt)

New study shows homework is lying to our faces

DSC_0141

Creek, ON. Schools have been closed for an unprecedented 7 days while teachers from all over the world fly in to discuss the study led by one Cica Stoudes, who has been pushing for reformation in the education system.

“I’ve been working on this project for 2 days,” the 8th grader declared to a press room, “and with Google Search, I discovered that homework is not really done at home and is one big joke!”

The youngster was inspired to delve into the research required after hearing her mother call her from her room to explain why Cica had left her essay on the conquistadors of France uncompleted for two weeks.

“We always say how homework is killing us, and now here’s your evidence that it’s true. An essay? Doesn’t Wikipedia have everything you could possibly know?” Ms. Stoudes asked rhetorically when confronted by a journalist.

Besides from the inaccuracy that homework is done at home, the 3 page double sided extra large font study also touches on the ridiculousness of having assignments. “It’s the 20th Century Fox, for crying out loud! We need change from the tiring homework, assignments, projects, everything!” Cica cried to the press. When asked if the research Ms. Stoudes conducted wasn’t study in itself, Ms. Stoudes asked her mother to decline comment.

School will resume just before Christmas.

*****************************

*jumps* Now that dreadful assignment is over at last. P H E W.  Maybe I can go back to normal content for once.

Ha. Don’t you wish.

See, kiddies, this is what happens when you’re me and you try to hard. You get not-so-good stuff like this. *sighs* Hope you enjoy anyway. 🙂

Now I gotta go and crush more school. *groans*

A Narrative

DSC_0030

There are too many assignments to finish. Wayy too much. *groans* Come winter break and save me!

Ahem. Anyway, one of the assignments is to write a narrative about a frightening experience from life… and publish it.

O_O

By BJU definition, apparently, “publish” is to put it out so people can read it. not just show it to your teach- mom after you’re done.

D’oh!

This wouldn’t be one of the first “school” assignments to pop up here, and it won’t be the last, lemme tell ya. I gotta write a newspaper article- or at least a good mock copy. *facepalms* So. uh. Here goes nothing.

*******************

It was my uncle’s church’s camping trip, and my family decided to take all five of us kids, a giant tent, and drive over to Ajax, I think it was. I’d thought it was the coolest thing ever. Being a city kid didn’t give one enough safety or space to explore, so camping was as rare as hot dogs on a Monday night. We’d eagerly set up the tent, jumped on the airbed til the air leaked out, and changed into our swimsuits when Dad told us about the camp pool.

I can still remember what it looked like, though my memory needs to be jump started with old pictures to properly see the place. The cabin had a nice, oak scent to its lacquered wooden walls, but the pool had a different scent of its own. It smelled nice and clean and.. inviting. The water most certainly was, with the light from the wide glass windows glinting off the shimmery water. My sister and brothers jumped into the water without a second thought, while I stayed right at the edge, the water lapping my feet.

See, I didn’t know how to swim.

To a five year old such as myself, however, it was exciting enough to lightly hop into the clear blue water and paddle. But for my dad, well, he was pretty sure I could do more than wave my arms while my feet were securely entwined around the railing.

“How ‘bout you swim over to me?” Dad called from where he was. To my tiny one foot tall self, it seemed he was a gazillion miles away, when in reality it was probably one stroke. Talk about pathetic.

“Um, no thanks!” I chirped from where I was, much preferring to float inside my little safety vest. Just then my sister and oldest brother swooped past me, engaged in some kind of race. I suddenly wanted to join them, and let my feet go from the railing, my hands paddling to the middle of the pool.

And then I dropped.

It was fast, sudden, dark . I somehow plunged down into the deep darkness below. Well, it wouldn’t have been so dark if I’d trusted my goggles and opened my eyes. But no, I didn’t. The water surrounded me as I sank deeper and deeper, my ears only hearing things muffled and my heart pounding.

It was just a game at first, and I could play it. I shut my eyes and held my breath as I headed deeper and deeper into the pool. I thought it was exciting, fun, that I could propel myself up like in the stories and break into the surface, that until then I could blow bubbles out like Captain Hook. But then it got scarier. I couldn’t hear Dad, or Joseph or Jacob, I was running out of air to blow bubbles, and no matter how hard I flapped my arms, I couldn’t get out of the that horrible, horrible dark water. The water engulfed me, just like the paralyzing fear that I was gonna drown. And I couldn’t scream. That was the worst part. Besides from the fact I couldn’t breathe.

Quickly, suddenly, someone, something plunged into the water and pulled me out, and everything reversed. I could see light again- light! And I could breathe, and feel air. And scream my head off as I clung to my sister’s shoulders.

“I want to go home! I want to go home!” I cried as Dad wrapped me up in a little towel and sat me on the side, far away from the water.

I was never gonna do that again. Ever.

Then my sister and all three brothers offered to carry me on their backs like baby otters do with their mothers.

I jumped back in, laughing like my near-death experience never happened.

If you’re reading this, you just read like 500 words of drek! Congratulations! As a reward you get the link to the 4th carol and me leaving you alone until tomorrow. 🙂 A lovely day to ya!

November Is Over

Mercy, dreadful apparition! Don’t you go spreading lies, it’s not December yet. New year’s Day was yesterday, you big scary ghost called Time!

Oh.

Heh. Yeah, sorry, I’ll just go take that back. My bad.

DSC_0008
Bokeh. Wow. So original .

Someone start telling time to slow down please. I can’t believe it’s already December. Also known as the last month of the year. The year’s almost over people. HOW.

I’ll be honest, November had its rough times, but it also had its good times. I guess that’s the way life works sometimes.

First of all, NaNoWriMo is over for the year. Say what!? But, yes, it’s indeed over. And I’m surprised. I have no clue how I wasn’t as stressed out and less writer’s blocked as in July, and still wrote 14 posts on here and 2 on Welcome to Odyssey (which I will return to rant abut stuff, don’t you worry about that 😉 ) and this wordcount was higher than my last one. I learned some things too. Like it’s better to set a daily wordcount and rest every day; switch spots, if you can, as often as possible so you don’t get bored; listen to the Captain America Winter Soldier soundtracks because they get your heart pumping; keep going; severely limit Pinterest to a half hour a week; and get equal amounts of sleep and caffeine; and that I give terrible advice.

That being said. Did I win?

DSC_0002

*starts to scream in 20 different languages* I can’t believe.

I hit my original goal of 30k without killing myself.

I’m still in semi shock, because, as you can see..

DSC_0007

I finished a day early. Which is insane. I mean it did cost me my sanity, my supply of dark chocolate, a test, and watching all of Home Improvement, but I did it!

I’m so, so grateful.

Plus, Just Come Home is well on its way to being finished. And I am excited/scared to edit it. So yeah, that’s been a huge highlight.

Let’s see, what else happened?

-Y’all, I was watching a Toy Story Christmas (Time Forgot Something) short and I died. The themes you guys, the themes, the plot, the characters!! LIKE THAT IS HOW YOU DO A STORY PEOPLE! And that’s only a short! So that was pretty inspiring, and I kinda wanna hike over to Pixar and ask if they need a vertically challenged intern.

-I wrote for my life and contemplated drinking coffee

-I re-read this awesome book and I’m dying, my childhood is gone

DSC_0005

-I WON NANOWRIMO AHHHHHHHH! And then I stayed up all night celebrating by reading books and taking late night pictures in manual. MANUAL.

-Now that it’s December, I had the crazy idea of a kind of advent calendar by covering 25 Christmas Carols and then posting them for you lovely people to hear how horrible I am. Thing is though, 1. is this a good idea, and 2. I know lots of us don’t celebrate Christmas for reasons that are really deep and good, so would you guys be okay with that?

-I may or may not have considered changing the URL of this blog. *gasps* I’d still keep the title, but maybe change the URL to drivingtheharddrive. But I’m too busy and tired and lazy to make a decision, because I like how things are now, and cause that makes me sound all brave and tough… and I’m not. XD

DSC_0014

-Spent late hours talking to awesome people and laughing my head off and whacking it on the couch

-Alpha read some amazing books and read some for review (which I promise will come out soon. Later. Eventually.)

-walked out in a 12 am snowfall when things weren’t too good and just felt better being in the cold

-waited in vain for the Avenger 4 trailer, and I’m starting to think it’ll never come out

-wrote cards and am about to mail ’em off to lovely people

-baked brownies when I was frustrated at life and somehow that helped

DSC_0011
Weird? yes. I’m not sure why I took this picture. XD

-listened to Adventures In Odyssey and have more headcanons than I have actual canon

-skated and had a blast

-somehow cleared up most of my homework

DSC_0013

-enjoyed writing on fancy stationary

-died in class (I fell asleep in both History and Science like once each)

-got used to mayo on ham and cheese sandwiches

-worked on secret project

-also at the same time practicing my voice 😛

-wrote fanfic! (not sharing. sorry. XD)

DSC_0012

-above is a picture of a stuffed penguin. I have no idea why he’s here or what for.

-basically, enjoyed November as much as I could!

DSC_0006

And amazingly, that’s not all that happened.

Last Saturday, (also known as the day before the wreck that is Black Friday shopping) I got a new charger, because my old one wasn’t working.

And a new laptop.

I got a new laptop.

That’s the part that makes me excited.

Apparently, I use my parents’ laptop too much, and they don’t want me breaking it any time soon. Not sure where they made the conclusion that I should have my own laptop, but they did and I’m so grateful. “It’s so you can develop your writing,” Mom told me. And this is from people who don’t read fiction.

DSC_0010

It’s already gotten me a tom of projects done, and it’s awesome.

And I think that’s the chunk of all that happened. 🙂

Playing Favorites (Cause Why Not)

And to end up this post, here’s a bunch of the things that kept me alive this past month. XD

Favorite Book

Beautiful Blue World by Suzanne LaFleur — Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

This. book. *dies* It’s so awesome, so sweet, and so sad!

And I got nothing else to say 😛

Favorite Song

I love Prince Of Egypt, and I will always, always love listening to this song.

Favorite Quote

One of my favorite musicians: Andrew Peterson. DeAnne, sometimes I wonder if we were twins some how separated at birth.

Andrew Peterson, to understate, is awesome.

What he says is awesome.

There ya go.

So until next time, people. 🙂 I’ll be seeing ya.

When Swarmed By Homework, Follow Me (Ha!)

DSC_0126

Hello.

So I have no clue why I’m writing this post right now. But oh well. Call this randomness at its finest, cause I have no explanation for whatever you’ll read next. Or do I? 😈

Also, happy almost Thanksgiving! Hope you’re all enjoying a well deserved break, cause I am.. not.

Instead I got a ton of homework to finish last night. Yay. And me, being the weird person I am, thought it would be fun to stay up late and finish a chapter or two of work. Taking it even further, I thought you might like to read my somewhat sensical notes. Somewhat.

And pictures. I took pictures.

(You know what, I really have lost my mind.) So here you have it, me at 11 pm, doing homework. I hope you enjoy.

Disclaimer: DO NOT TRY THIS. AT ALL. YOU’LL DIE. ☠️

*****************

11:36 PM: In light of the fact that I have like 130 pages of homework to finish, this is a futile attempt to try to knock out a great deal of homework. I shall endeavor to stay up til one am.

Don’t worry, it’ll be great! I’ve made tea, my MP3 is charging, I’ve cleaned my desk. I have to pull all-nighters anyway, why not make it fun?

DSC_0138

Am I gonna regret this? Yes!

DSC_0142

Am I gonna enjoy myself? Here’s hoping.

11:44 PM: Math sounds like fun. Why don’t we try that and listen to some epic music?

*searches for good music*

AHA. How about some AIO?

I seem to be making one crazy choice after another. 😂

DSC_0144

12:13 AM: This math problem makes zero sense. Like this whole thing. Eh.

DSC_0139
What I read in between math. This book is seriously good…

12:19 AM: Math is boring. I finished a lesson. Moving on.

DSC_0140

12:35 AM: Climax? Crisis? Inciting Incident? Okay, I get this stuff? Now we’re getting somewhere fun!

What’s with all the papers. Wah. 😑

DSC_0141

12:50 AM: Ahh, red ink’s so hard to wash off, argh!

DSC_0147
Behold, I did it! Actually, no, I just didn’t change my watch back after Daylight Saving Time.. XD

12:56 AM: 2 chapters done, not shabby!

DSC_0145

1:00 AM: Okay, I finished an entire unit. I’m done, goodnight!

*******************

12:13 PM: That was fun, I should try that again.

(*cough cough* Um, please don’t try this without permission and/or counselling, believe it or not, I got both!) Okay, I know pulling all-nighters is a bad idea, very bad. But if you ever were a student at one point in life (as I’m sure we all are/were) it’s necessary. So I figured why not try to make it enjoyable? 😛 That seems to be my default for a lot of things: if you can’t escape doing it, at least have fun while you’re at it.

It’s bound to fail me at some point in life.

But hey, it got me to finish a math lesson and a whole Lit unit. So I’d say I didn’t die in vain.

Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s more homework to be done. Seeya!

*sneakily listens to AIO while figuring out how to measure the long side of a triangle*

*grabs a ruler*
