A Scribble Scrabble On Life: Laughed At A License Plate (And Other Mundane Things)

DSC_0129

Well this one time we were driving and some black sedan whizzed by and the license plate read something along the lines of GANDALF.

You won’t believe how disappointed I was. There was no pointy gray hat. SACRILEGE.

I’ve always been interested in license plates. I even had a collection of the weirdest ones. I think my favorite was FLYAKITE. Mom didn’t get the reference.

Welcome back to another post of the mundane with your not favorite mundane person. 😀

The past two posts have been unusually deep, for some strange reason.  Not sure why. My brain is funny sometimes. Anyway, I’m breaking that streak because I couldn’t post stuff like that on a regular basis if my life depended on it. 😛

DSC_0116
I dunno what I was doing here, but I definitely thought it was funny. XD

How are you, huh?

Ooh, looky- it’s SNOWING.  The sun was shining a few minutes ago. I wish I had my camera, but there’s no way I’m stepping out in in 10 degree weather. And that’s in Farenheit, too. It’s cold. It’s beautiful. It’s cold. I’m shivering. XD

Library stuff. The other day Dad was free from work, so the reprobates that were us kids drove to the library to “work”.

HA.

Work.

*dies* That’s kinda funny. XD As if I could actually get work done in a library. Leaving me in a place of books is like taking a two year old to a candy shop- you won’t emerge unscathed.

DSC_0124

I actually did get some homework done though- the nice librarian who knows me as “The girl who’s almost always asking for the obscure American titles” showed me to the encyclopedias, and I think I walked back and forth from my desk to the shelf like…. 20 times? Per hour? SCHOOL. WHY.

Came back home with…. um.. tenish books? Does one count comics? And I owe 2.80 to the library now. Oops. And my card expires in 30 days. *sobs* The injustice.

DSC_0119

I’m not sure whose blog I saw it on, but the book Because You’ll Never Meet Me caught my eye, and I spent an hour or so reading it. Mini review- the POVs are really great, the characterization is well done, the concepts are seriously cool, but as for the other elements, I’m still deciding. XD It’s a pretty good read though! I also read Girls Can’t Hit and it’s a surprisingly good read as well. *nodnod* Makes me wanna pick up a set of boxing gloves.

DSC_0118

Speaking of comics, I screamed unnaturally when the A4 TV spot came on during the Super Bowl. I didn’t even bother to stick around for the game. XD It’s coming and I shouldn’t be this excited, but I am. ENDGAME. AH. I’m too excited. 😛 Maybe also because I kinda get to nerd my family out with everything Marvel connect with my family a little more. 🙂 Although I’m not lying about the family part. I got my brother reading 2 comics simply by leaving them out on the shelf. He hates reading. XD I’m counting this as a score. It’s been decided that we’re now pronouncing Tony Stark “Sony Tark.”

DSC_0126

Spiderman can’t be more relatable.

Anyway.

Brief birthday related paragraph. My other brother, also known as the Very Loud And Unusual One Who Plays Electric Guitar And Drives Me Crazy went and decided to get older. Being the good sister I’m not, I ate a slice off his birthday cake. What, he won’t miss it. 🙂

Weather Intrusion. Wait, wait, THE SUN’S SHINING IN THE SNOW STORM *pokes head out window*

*freezes*

*dies*

*wakes up in Budapest*

Well, that was a mistake. 😛 I’m dying it’s cold. Sent hot cocoa over here! 😛

I’ve been desperately trying to catch up school-wise, which isn’t too bad if I just got my homework actually done, it feels like I live at this get up:

DSC_0112
Break down: Tiny black laptop balancing precariously on the edge of the abstract art couch is actually a DVD player. Main laptop is the thing I can’t live without due to its can’tlivewithoutqualites. Papers over there are the evil fatale assignments I had to go overtime to barely finish.

Which, I gotta say, is really, really nice, but it gets tiring over time. So what better way to switch things up than to say, do the art tutorials on The Art Lab?

Art Dump. *facepalm* Sometimes I question my sanity.

DSC_0120

I spent so long at that paintiiiing- and the marker bled through. 😡  Oh well. It was rather fun trying to be artistic- and my other brother said he liked it. But still. those clouds look terrible.

DSC_0121

See, the marker bled straight through to the next page! (Also, very sorry for the terrible lighting) But I actually kinda like this one. My first decent drawing in a while. I just might redo and frame that one.

DSC_0122

And then I had to go and waste all my ink on trying the spaghetti mountain thing. It was HARD. And I ran outta marker. But it kinda looks like I actually tried! Which is good, because I actually did try. Art is hard.

DSC_0123

*gags* WHAT. EVEN. IS. THIS. ATROCITY.  YUK. My eyes hurt right now. I was trying Buttercup’s hair tutorial and thought, “ooh, this isn’t too bad, let’s try the face!”
What was I even thinking?

This offends everything in me that has an inkling of art sense. Why. Be-yuk. I suppose I’ll have to keep practicing to be remotely good. But that’s okay. Nobody’s an expert at first try. Take this as proof what whatever you’re doing is ten times better than whatever I could conjure.

DSC_0125

Conversations. I kinda wish people would take this mug at their words. Lately I’ve discovered that many times a lot of hurt can be avoided if someone just takes the time to listen. Many of the hurt’s been caused by myself too, which I hope to end. Tea doesn’t hurt. 🙂

Audiosmiths’ Release! We’ve been working very, very hard on this, and it’s finally out! Big thanks to Rebekah for taking on the editing work ❤ (also: was it hard getting an annoying Scottish accent that was probably incorrect? Answer: YES. VERY. ARGH.)

To sum up. Sometimes, random posts are really just random. They don’t make an ounce of sense, and honestly, you gotta ask yourself what’s the point.

I guess I don’t have any other than that after a long hard week,  people need a reason to smile again. If my recaps of an otherwise mundane life can do that, than I’ll consider this successful. XD It’s easy to look at the news and have your heart sink. But as Thor said:

DSC_0127

I’m telling ya, these comics have more insight then they let on. Maybe go read one sometime. 😉  So here’s your funnies for the week. It made zero sense, but hopefully.. I dunno, maybe it got you to smile. 🙂

Have a good one, okay? 😀

Scribble Scrabble: It’s Not Even A Month And I Get Tagged

dsc_0118

So yesterday the lovely Tess had posted about a bunch of stuff, and in that post was a Liebster Award, which she tagged yours truly for.

Goodness, I haven’t had this tag in a while. This should be fun! 🙂

  **********Liebster Awardy**************

I know the rules. Thanks Tess, I’ll answer the questions, say 11 things about myself (boring I’ll warrant) and tag 11 poor people who never saw it coming >:)

dsc_0181

What was your favorite TV show/movie when you were a kid?

Oooh, boy. That depends. I loved Dennis The Menace, Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and Walker, Texas Ranger. Movies? Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Brave, um… Prince Of Egypt. The list goes on.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

I think everyone should get away from the city into the wilderness for at least a day and a night, to get back into nature. Having just from a retreat, I supposed I’m biased, but I sincerely believe fresh air and no traffic noises can help almost anyone

dsc_0046

What do you think is the best way to start the day?

Your favorite comfort drink and the Bible! Getting God’s Word first thing in the morning really helps get the rest of your day down pat.

What is one of your favorite smells?

This is gonna sound ridiculous, but I will have to say the smell of a hug. Not explaining any further because I don’t quite understand it myself. 😛

If you were suddenly put on a stage and told to deliver a speech, what would you talk about?

I would talk about how one life can change so many others simply by being, thanks to the ultimate life (*cough cough* The One Life *cough cough* Jesus’s life).

Do you think Wikipedia is a reliable source?

Like the general Wiki? I dunno. But for fandom wikis, they haven’t let me down yet. I’ve spent hours on AIOWiki and none of their info has proven to be false!

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

Oh word Tess, you ask good questions. Um, I’d say “you need to be the example for your friends.” Honestly, why pick one kid to have to suffer being the role model, simply because their dad’s in the ministry? Also when said kid is just the same as the others? Do ya know how stuck up I had to feel, and I didn’t like it? Bleah.

What age would you like to live to?

Bold of you to assume I actually get to pick. XD I don’t know. 21. Because then I’m old enough to vote and join American Ninja Warrior.

dsc_0112

What do you want carved on your gravestone?

Huh.. umm… “Here lies Jo, seeker of truth. The bacon crumbles were never hidden long because of this.”

Or, or: “Jo: Professional awkward dork, lover of God. That’s all you need to know. Besides that Mitch was a good character. And Buck is a victim. And that God really does save.”

Have you ever saved someone’s life?

O_O

Have I WHAT now??

Boy, don’t I wish! I think I came close when one of the kids I babysit ran into traffic and I yanked her away from an incoming car? It all happened so fast, I can’t really remember.
Opinion on chow mein?

IT’S LIFE. My family always gets a tray on Sunday afternoons when we’re so tired and our blood sugars are unhealthily low. It’s so good. I could eat that forever. At least I wanna try.

dsc_0111

Well, that was easy. 11 facts however? Pfft…

I’m… 1) working on splicing Hastrman, so expect that coming anytime now, 2) going to read 100 books this year (including books of the NT so that takes away 27 books) 3) reading through the New Testament til April (hopefully!) 4) panicking because to move up a grade this year, I have to study twice as hard as I did last year, 5) writing to pen pals because they’re fun and my old one moved and I haven’t gotten the address yet. 6) My mom and I have a tradition every year. She cuts my hair, and we listen to AIO. 7) It takes 2 1/2 episodes for a full haircut. I checked. 8) I whole heartedly support the “give Luis his own superhero movie” movement, 9) am looking forward to Thursday because NEW EPISODE, 10) have an uncle whose parrot was mysteriously plucked bald and 11) have taken a bottle of maple syrup and drunk a little. I’m Canadian, what can you say? 😛

Sa wakas, I did it!

Now for the 11 people… goodness, who on earth picked 11? Did they just go trigger happy on the “1” key?

EDIT: I forgot, but you can do the questions I did XD Here:

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

What do you think is the best way to start the day?

What is one of your favorite smells?

Because I Never Got To Share My Favorites Last Time, I’m Sharing Them Now

9DEDF7E9-22F8-4802-BF14-1FC33B5D9EB7

In which I do exactly what the title says I’m doing.

Hello, and welcome to the second day of the New Year! I’m sure you’re all getting used to the reality that we have to go back to school soon. 😦  Fortunately, I’m not! 😛

Last year (can I really say it’s last year, wow…) I collected a bunch of my favorites. So before they get replaced with this year’s favorites, they shall forever be remembered on this blog. XD Okay, here goes literally nothing.

Favorites Of 2018

Favorite Books

Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library (Mr. Lemoncello's Library #1)

Okay, I’ve already written a post about this, so I won’t say much. But I LOVED this book! My imagination was on a high by the time I finished reading. XD And the end. *dies* If you read this, read it all the way to the end!

40605329

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I have, but I did. I loved the themes, I loved the characters, but most of all, I loved loved loved the heart. It was like I was right there with the kids at the institute. Definite fav.

40749170

Penny Wood, you, my dear, are an amazing author! Casey Newman’s guide to being funny is one of my favorite books! And of course, Cassandra was my bestie. 😉

I could talk on and on anon about how I would die for this saga, but I really love this second book out of all of them. It’s sadder, deeper, and Janner is so real. Maybe that’s why it’s such a favorite. 🙂

26026063

So I just read this yesterday and I want to cry.

It was so, so heartbreakingly sad.

But it was…. so good.

It was a tad bit slow in some areas, but for the most part it was a great story. I loved it.

11387515

Wonder was a great story in an unusual way of telling it. I felt for everyone in the story, because I got to read their POVs. That was really nice.

I also wanted to punch Auggie’s bullies. They’re jerks.

28250921

This book. Without a doubt or a shadow of it, is one of my favorites of 2018. I don’t think I could forget it.

It’s funny, how like it is to my WIP but so very different. The atmosphere is heavy with war, and the story follows with it. Mathilde is an amazing character, and she’s written beautifully.

And arggh I can’t find an image anywhere, but one of my favorites of all time would be..

Feather of Diamond, by Rebekah C!

XD It was just a first draft, I know, but I LOVED it Rebekah! Even if you did break my heart and kill off some people *cough cough* It was amazing! 😀

Ehehe. I can’t leave my fandoms and my fandoms won’t leave me. I reread LOTR and it’s. just. so. good. Tolkien was a master of worldbuilding, and I really really really want to go see Rivendell and Rohan and Gondor now! XD

Favorite Songs:

This should be easy. Ready?

Captain America The Winter Soldier scores are AMAZING writing music, and singlehandedly helped me win Nano!

Not really.

But it’s epic.

Even If helped me out when things weren’t looking so good.

His Heart Beats made my heart beat.

Remember Me is one of my poppier, upbeat faves.

Wake Me Up When It’s All Over is me every morning.

I’ll Keep You Safe makes me think of Dareine and her lil sister and thus I love it so.

It’s Gonna Be Okay. Okay, this song, to put it in the words of a hedgehog named Cuarto, “gives me the happies!!’

Tightrope is amazing for the sole reason it matches one of my charries and it is so sad and so… I don’t even know. Awesome.

Tell Me Again, by Skye Peterson, has kept me up and helped me keep going and I can’t stop listening to it. Also Skye Peterson has some awesome stuff and yes, you should check her songs out. 😀

God Help The Outcasts – I’m crying now, stop. Just yes!

When You Believe – I love Prince Of Egypt, I love this song, and I love all the covers I’ve heard of it so far.

Symphony was so catchy and so fun to write to. Favorite for sure.

Favorite Bible Passage: Psalm 46

Favorite Writing Snack: Bacon crumbles

Favorite WIP: Mirages y’all XD

And last but not least:

Favorite Quote:

There are a number of quotes I could pull up that for me, was my favorite of the year.

“I smelt a rat.”

“Wake me up when it’s all over.”

“If you get killed, walk it off.”

“Buckle up, it’s gonna be a weird ride.”

“Pray on, dear one, the power lies that way.”

But I’m gonna go with this one.

At the end of the day there's another day.png

That was kinda my… motto, thingy, quote-y? XD I’m glad it was.

So here’s to another year dawning, with new favorites ahead.

What were some of your favorites, I wonder? 🙂

Hopes, Dreams, and Unrealistic Aspirations

WARNING LONG POST AHEAD PROCEED AT OWN CAUTION

Hi again, lovely people of the internet!

By the time you read this (since I was waay too verbose last time) it’ll be January. 1. 2019.

*screams*

“I wasn’t prepared for this. We can’t let them know anything.”- Kira

Truer words have never been spoken, Kira. But I *am* letting you know some things… not quite sure why.

Ohhh, right! Because I thought it would be a good idea! *facesmacks* It doesn’t seem too bad right now, so… uh…here goes. 🙂

2019 Goals

Life Goals

DSC_0005

  • Get a job. Somehow, someway, I’d really really like to work and save money for even more future stuff- if that’s what God wants. But even not, doing some thing that’s a little more serious than a fandom. 😛
  • Wake up early and get stuff DONE. For Christmas break, my gift to myself was slacking off on everything. Including important, essential things like devotions. And I don’t want to admit that, but I have to. Because starting now, I want to change that, and start being productive.
DSC_0023
With my feet propped up, a’course!
  • Read the whole New Testament and get into Bible Bee’s Summer Study. Last year (which feels like yesterday, probably because it was) I was so blessed by digging deeper into God’s word, and I don’t think I can explain that. It’s so awesome to study the Bible not because anyone says you have to, but because you want to. So I’m looking forward to this!
  • School. Crush it. Defeat the boss villain, move to next level. ‘Nuff said. Oh, and start seriously learning French. And look at ops around.
  • Train.  And by train I mean exercise. Because I’d love to get stronger in that area.
  • Learn as many life skills as I can at this age. They’re life skills. I’ll need them. Some of em are fun!
  • Go to a buskerfest. And get a buskering permit. I doubt I’ll crush this goal, but it won’t be for lack of trying. *grabs hammer*
  • Get offscreen for more than I am on. As much as I love Pinterest, I won’t let it take away time I could use to use other worthy things. Besides, I don’t want to be that kid that never sticks her head out to see the sky.
  • Develop my photography. Compared to my first picture here, I’d glad to say that I’ve grown a tad in the mastery of the lens. But I have a long way to go. So I’d really like to learn to use manual. XD
  • MORE ANDREW PETERSON MUSIC YES BOIII

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3B

Wordy Goals

  • read 100 books. I’m really, really looking forward to this! And I’m counting books of the Bible so technically, I’ve already read four of the hundred I have to read! 😀 But yup, 100 books. Some of which may include War and Peace (HA!) some YA, and alphas. I really love the alpha part XD
  • finish, edit and rewrite Just Come Home. Ahhh, my wittle baby WIP is a year old already! *sighs* It’s gonna take some work, but I’m so doing this. You can’t stop me. It’s not your funeral, after all.
  • look into publishing. O_O WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT DID I SAY WHAT. I hve no clue where to start, I mean, it’s almost 100% sure I’m self-publishing, because honestly, who would take that? But again, if this doesn’t happen, it won’t be because I didn’t try!
  • write at least 500 words a day. I wish I could be meta and go for 1k1day, but I need to LIVE XD so I’m gonna set a reasonable amount for myself. I don’t know what I’ll write, but I’m looking forward to it! (fanfic, short stories, and poems, most likely *cough cough*) (maybe a novel or two) (I haven’t forgotten you Mirages)
  • actually respond to pen pals.
  • join NaNo. Crush NaNo. Die in NaNo.
  • Fill up my old notebooks. I have a bunch of old, good notebooks that wouldn’t be used. But I’m gonna take them. And write. Probably drek like on this blog. But it’ll be better than mindlessly scrolling through the web, right?
  • write in this lovely!

DSC_0020

The cover the cover da coverrrrr yay!

I can’t wait to write in it!

Blogging Goals

DSC_0019

“Awwww yay!” you cry. “The actually fun stuff!”

Ha. Well, what do we have here…

  • have a blogsiversary.  >:) *laughs evilly* I’ve been blogging for practically a whole year, how?? But I know what I’m doing to “celebrate”. And it will be fun. 😉
  • start writing quality posts. I’m the lord of the random, and everything on this blog and this blog itself, is a result of that. So I wanna up the ante and make it a tad more purposeful.
  • enter a few contests and challenges. Like BIBPC. Ohhh and speaking of, Megan, I GET TEN EXTRA POINTS BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH Because this is my picture for Category 4!

Jo-Team Bear- Category 4

I couldn’t change the file name.. but THAT IS A DONKEY. And I’ve saved that just for you since March! 😛 HA! HA! HA! *is so happy right now*

Ahem. Moving on.

  • Design some blogs. If you’re interested, I put up a Services page, so if you want to redesign your blog or need a new button, header, signoff, widgets, or whatever, I’d love to work with ya! And Rebekah’s helping me out too, so I won’t mess anything up! 🙂
  • Keep things running at Welcome To Odyssey. As you know, AIO is my fandom and my fandom is AIO, so I love ranting about everything under the sun that even remotely has something to do with AIO, so I’m looking forward to this!
  • figure out my YT channel. It’s pathetic.

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3BRandom Fun Goals (we’re almost over, hang in there :P)

DSC_0022

  • record more songs and make more audio dramas as part of the Audiosmiths. As bad as my voice is, I love singing.. and I love acting, so win-win! XD
  • beat someone, ANYONE, at checkers! My good friend Denise gave me this awesome set for my birthday, and then proceeded to beat me at checkers.

DSC_0021

WAH.  But ahem. Learning, and playing more offscreen games in general is a plus I’m looking forward to. 🙂

  • go outside more.
  • dream.
  • try to keep a thankfulness journal.
  • eat bacon.
  • make someone smile.

DSC_0018

Yesterday, I got this framed from a friend.

And I think that’s gonna be my… quote of the year, or whatever.

Call to Me and I will answer you. And show you great and mighty things which you do not know. -Jeremiah 33:3

From the looks of everything, I have it all under control (HA!) But the truth is, I don’t know just what’s going to happen. But God does.

I’m looking forward to the great and might things He has for me, and until then, I’m gonna trust Him and keep driving this hard drive. It has some awesome views along the way.

May the roads be as bumpy as you can handle, that you’ll find rest, and you’ll be fueled up for a hard- but joyful drive. 🙂

Wherein I Start Being Patriotic And Visiting The Capital

DSC_0369

Yes, I know this is a midnight post.

Yes, I know I read too much.

And yes, I know I should be writing like any good vertically challenged writer should be doing.

Lemme just say, it’s good to be back home!

We drove into the garage at 10 something PM last night, and I celebrated by reading fan fiction until 2am. 😛

But anyway, the past two days have been filled with all sorts of awesome fun cold, and me being an unoriginal blogger (TM) I’m blogging about it. Because it’s fun. 😀 I’ve finished my bag of frozen raspberries and listening to some AIO scores, so, let’s get into it.

DSC_0150

DSC_0159

It only took a few minutes on the road to get into wanderlust mode, not that I’m sorry about it. Endless trees, fields and barns just get me excited, for some reason. And itching to finish Just Come Home. XD You know how they say half the fun is getting there?
They were right.
DSC_0146
The other half was just as fun.
Add really, really cold to that list and you got it down pat.
DSC_0165
DSC_0181
I’ve been to Ottawa once, when I was 7. That time it was night, it was chilly, and I had no clue just how beautiful this city was.
We technically weren’t even supposed to be in Ottawa. Split second decisions for the win.
DSC_0191
DSC_0203
The vibe here- well, the ambience, pick whichever fits you- was so different from Montreal. not that is was bad or anything. I dunno, it was just different. Fresh. Old and new and… inspiring.
DSC_0175
DSC_0163
It’s kinda amazing. To think that years ago, the people who founded your nation walked the same streets you stand on. Built the tower that you’re gaping at.
That a long time ago, it all started here.
And what’s weird, is that even though you’re not in a museum, history’s never been more alive than it is right now.
DSC_0183
DSC_0218
Yep, that’s me struggling in the magenta jacket. And yes, that gargoyle is ugly.
After a good half hour of freezing cold, we finally made it into the building to get tickets to see the capital building- only to be told all the tour tickets we’d get were in French.
French.
As in the subject I flunked in a year ago.
But when you think about the fact that the capital won’t be open to the public for another 15 years, French isn’t so bad! Right?
And no, no it wasn’t. 😉
DSC_0226
DSC_0233
The Eternal Flame was flaming all right- I forgot what it represents, but it apparently hasn’t stopped representing it. Good for you, old fire.
And heheh, I was messing around with angles. It seemed to be better than the selfies that everyone else were taking.  Though, taking a picture of yourself with a monument that stands for our rights as citizens, our freedoms, the blessings God gave us as Canadians (Or Americans or wherever y’all come from), with a reminder of what we stand for- that doesn’t seem too bad.
Except when we’re no longer sure just what we’re standing for, but here’s hoping we figure it out in time.
Was I being philosophical for a second there? Huh. 😛 Moving on.
DSC_0244
DSC_0229
FACE REVEAL!
No, my brother’s not a gargoyle, sorry. XD He’s way handsomer than one and no, you aren’t allowed to tell him I said that. XD I think the best part about this trip was bonding with family. I mean, we do have to agree on where to stop for WIFI, right?
And looking up at Capitol Hill, I think it’s called, I couldn’t help but feel a tad proud of what Canada means. Sure we’ve made some dumb mistakes and tax is bad and that Christian belt of people isn’t as prominent as it really needs to be, but it has some good things too. Like maple syrup. And snow. You know, some good things.
DSC_0239
DSC_0255
Pay attention to that statue to the right! 😛 The poor guy!
DSC_0221
My feet were cold, but my brain was working overtime to store all the architectural detail… everywhere! I love old buildings, no matter what style, and I practically jumped just turning around. A wonder I didn’t trip no anything.
Also, I dunno bout you, but I feel really sorry for Henry Albert Harper over there. Trying to save a gal from drowning and dying with her, at only 28. I gotta write a story about it sometime. It’s kinda sweet that of all the plaques they coulda picked up, they picked one random, lesser known hero.
DSC_0240
The streets were b e a u t i f u l.
It really was like walking through a story or something. I can only imagine what Ottawa looked like when it first started.
DSC_0256
DSC_0266
DSC_0263
I don’t know how my family managed to snag free tour tickets in French, but somehow, it worked out and we headed back to actually get inside. And that was awesome. If it wasn’t so cold. 😛 I really connected with those gargoyles, the poor guys stuck on the building for who knows how long. They look so done right now. Like I am with this post– moving on!
DSC_0282
And this is where all the huge arguments take place, friends. I wouldn’t know, because as helpful as our tour guide was, I couldn’t understand a single word he was saying. It’s not your fault Felix, you were great! Blame my total dunceness concerning any other language.
But seriously though. I’m learning French, and I’m gonna actually pay attention!
I bet my mom’s sighing in relief as she plans 7 days worth of French assignments at me. Have mercy…

My absolutely no doubt about it most favorite part of the entire place was the library.
THE LIBRARY.
AHH.
Felix called it the bibliotech or something, and I’m pretty sure I spelled that wrong, but the library was so beautiful I can’t even.
AHHH.

I mean, I woulda gladly spent the entire day inside the library, if it weren’t for the fact half the books were gone. For renovation purposes. Rats.
Also, all the designs were hand carved.

O_O
Moving on.

The next part was the Peace Tower- as in the tower in front of the building, yup, that. I had no clue you could actually go and see the city- but you can. And it is so beautiful I could’ve been standing there for a long time if my feet didn’t hurt. XD We got up there by way of a small, dark elevator, and on the way up you could hear bells ringing.
Of course, I saved that in a folder of my brain for writing. It’s somewhere along with evil plans to take over the world and homework.

Outside of the elevator was something else to look at. Practically the whole city you could see from that lookout. It was something to marvel at, alright.  And looking up- ahh, there wasn’t anywhere you could look at and not want to take a picture of. At least for me.

Not Big Ben, but just as wow- worthy.
And so is the height we were up at.

If that was all we got to see, that would’ve been more than enough for me. If we’d come back down and drove off, I’da been more than content.
But there was more.

As one of the guides told us, one of the main reasons for building the Memorial Chamber (so sorry if I got like all these names wrong) was to never forget the first world war. They carved out stone and wrote down names, not expecting there would be another war.
Somehow the last fact makes me shut up and think really hard.

There were books all around the room, sealed in glass cases.
On every page are the names of every soldier who gave their life for the war.
Fathers. Brothers. Lovers. Scientists. Random guys.
People.
Sometimes you really need to remember that,  y’know?
I walked out with a new appreciation of living in Canada. Because the freedom I have, the freedom I take for granted, people died for that. Can’t forget. I owe that much and more.
Anyhoo, we drove back home, and I successfully managed to get my entire family into the AIO fandom (YAAAASSSSSS). 10 episodes! 10 episodes nonstop! While I’ll be ranting on that on Welcome To Odyssey, I would like to note with pride that my parents listened to an episode with Jason Whittaker and liked it. It happened to be Accidental Dilemma, and they were promptly worried about Jason exploding himself.
Very proud fangirl right here.
Ahem, this post in on the long side, wouldn’t you say? So I think I’ll end it right now. Thanks a bunch for sticking through the end!

Wish I knew what was going on in this photo. But I think it’s beautiful.

Wanted: Help For My Book Addiction (Or, how I keep adding to my TBR list without even trying)

DSC_0056

I swear, just like moths are attracted to candles, I am unnaturally attracted to books. I can’t walk into a library and leave without a novel or something, anything.  It doesn’t help that the skate rink’s right next to the library, or that I’m walking distance of both fine establishments. *sighs*

So anyway, you know this picture I took last month of my book haul?

DSC_0016

Yeah, this is the new and improved version of it.

It’s hopeless. I walk into a library for any random reason, waiting for a ride home, studying, accidentally triggering the apocalypse, and behold, there’s another cover begging me to pick it up. If books were cats, my room would have more mews than a pet shop.

But behold. New books to read!

A Wrinkle In Time was interesting, weird, slightly confusing,  and made me miss Loki whenever it mentioned the word tesseract.

Neil Flambe was a pretty good mystery, but not exactly well done or to my taste.

Soar was an awesome small town first person POV narrative, and I appreciate baseball now more than ever.

Tuck Everlasting was the saddest thing I’ve read in forever, and I’m super sad Jesse and Winnie didn’t- oh never mind, just read the book. I’ll be the kid at the librarian’s desk sobbing. I have no clue why this book was banned at all. It’s… wow.

And the rest? Uhhhh.. I haven’t read them yet? I’m reading Because Of Winn-Dixie right now, and so far, like all the other books I’ve read this year, it’s really good.

The other three I picked up purely because of the cover. The Other Side of Summer’s cover was of a girl with a guitar, I had to get that one. And Wolf Hollow was so cool how could you not read it?  I need a life.

Some days I wonder if adding my own story to the massive amount of stories already out there is worth it. There are literally thousands of them out there, and I can name 12 from the top of my head that are like the one I’m writing. Why do I even try?

I have no clue. But I do anyway. When I’m not reading, that is.

Y’all, drag me to counselling, because from the weird looks people give me when I’m walking down the street with a book in hand, it’s not normal. But I was never normal to begin with, not with my stories and all. But maybe that’s a good thing.

I’ll leave you to this carol now. Go and read a book sometime, why don’t you? 🙂

I Don’t Wanna Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library

This. book. wow.

So for some odd reason I have been able to read almost 10 books in the last two months. Which is a huge deal for me since I somehow am still keeping up with NaNo.  Yay!

At the awesome book party Kate and Anna were a part of, I saw this interesting book nestled in with other amazing books. Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. I instantly connected with it. It’s a library, for crying out loud! So I commented that I would read it, and finally, like the other day or so, I had to put the book down (or in this case, my Kindle app). Because I’d finished the book.

I didn’t want it to end!

This book was wondermous, the concept, the characters, the setting (oh man the setting), the clues, and the entire story and subtle themes, the world. It felt so real, I was seriously transported to another world. And being the writer wannabe that I am, I kept muttering through the book,  “what a clever author. I wish I wrote this book…” which worried my mother to a certain extent.

The concept. A couple of kids get locked in a library, the coolest and only library they’ve known since the old one was destroyed before they were born, and basically, it’s an Escape Room. Use what’s in the library to get out of the library, and Mr. Lemoncello will reward ya. But frankly, I wouldn’t mind staying there forever. Food! Books! Internet! What more would I need?

The characters. Kyle is your normal, average gamer guy, but I like his character. It wasn’t flat. He’s the kind of guy you root for, and I was doing that throughout reading this book. The other kids weren’t flat either, which was awesome. Sierra is probably me, and Mr. Lemoncello is a lot like Willy Wonka. It was like I was there with  them, and it added to the story to get into some of the characters’ heads. Especially the bad guy.

The setting. Ahhhhhhhh it’s a booklover’s dream place! Imagine a science center, mixed with the gaming section of Best Buy, mixed in with a library, mixed in with so many secrets and nooks and crannies and that’s not even half of the Lemoncello library.  I wanna live there *sobs*

The clues. My Jones & Parker detective agency cap was put on again (ha, you really didn’t think I wasn’t gonna put an AIO reference, right? Cause I was.)  I had to grab a paper and pen to write down everything that would be important, and following those clues and references with Team Kyle and Team notgonnasaybutnotaniceguy was fascinating. And the author’s note at the end really heightened the suspense for me. (Easy suspense though.) If you read the book, which I certainly hope you will, read all the way to the end. 😉

Story/Themes. The story was written remarkably, like it was calling to you to stop and stay a while, which I definitely did. You’ll have to read it and see how you think of it! The themes were also written remarkably, like how thinking for others rather than just yourself goes further in the long run, to be gentle, and that books really can take you places.

As you can probably tell, I enjoyed this book immensely, as well as the second one, which talked about banned books, nerdy library kids,  and something called the library olympics. It was a great read.  Now all I gotta do is wait for the third and fourth books. And hopefully write something half as attention-grabbing as Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library.

And homework. I really do need to go to a library soon.
