A Quicky Q&A and Random Updates

DSC_0001

I had a post coming on, but it wasn’t ready and I wasn’t ready and Enni, the brilliant genius she is, messaged me and asked for a post idea since she was a little low on creativity and since I was low on energy, I suggested a collab interview since those are fun and I was way too tired to think.

There’s an example run-on sentence for your grammar books kids. *thumbs up* On with this post. Although you should probably check out Enni’s answers to my questions over here since they’re much more fun than my answers. And she also posted my death threat on hers too. Cool stuff.

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

1. If you could start life over, would ya?
If I could start life over… what. Uh. *sighs* *thinks deeply* No. Because the life I have right now is crazy enough. XD

2. How would you describe your sense of style?

I have no sense of style- it comes and goes.

3. What’s your favorite season?

WINTER FOREVER- snow, skates, CHRISTMAS, more snow, ice, winterrrr
DSC_0064

4. What are your life’s goals?

To live, obviously. And to publish a book, learn to drive, get a black belt, be on American Ninja Warrior, act in any kind of production, go to Bible Bee Nationals, and meet all of my blogger friends on a road trip around the world.

5. Which place in Europe would you most like to visit?

*waves hands wildly* Scotland! One, because of Brave, and two, because.. because Scotland. 😛

I’d also like to stop by Switzerland one time.

6. Which Marvel death broke your heart the most?

*sniffs* Thank you for asking about a fandom Enni I love you so- it would have to be Vision, because Wanda had to watch him die twice and she couldn’t do a thing to stop it and also because poor grey Vis’s lifeless self is heartbreaking. Also Spiderman and Bucky’s  were pretty horrible.
DSC_0075
7. What time do you normally get up in the mornings?
 I do my best to get up around 6 or 7- it sometimes happens. Sometimes.

8. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read?

The worst book I ever read shall go nameless to protect the innocent, but it was a Western that was so bad I’d rather read Twilight and I hate Twilight. It was so horribly preachy, the characters were unrealistic, the bad guy wasn’t bad guy-y enough, and to top it all off, it was supposed to be good Christian fiction. Ugh.
DSC_0121

9. Cursive or print?

Cursive forever- what can you do with print anyway? Other than print? Legit nothing. Be-yuk.
10. Which of your fandoms is your favorite?
As if I can choose between any of them?? O_O I can’t! Probably AIO. Or the MCU. Or LOTR. It’s a tie between those three.
cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b
Thus concludes the mini random interview. *sighs and slumps onto couch*
Now for the updates that nobody asked for.
I have 4 drafts in my Editor, waiting for me to publish them. Which, I probably won’t until much later when they’re completely faded from relevancy. It’s not like I’m tired of blogging- it’s just that I’m tired, period. It’s hard volunteering for something you didn’t volunteer to do it, y’know? But that’s over now and I’m just in the fallout, waiting for energy to come back and… yeah. I’m alive! *thumbs up* In case you were wondering. Heh.
Currently in the process of finishing my NaNoWriMo 2018 project so I can move on to April Camp 2019’s WIP.. which I’ll announce eventually. As well as the secret project that I totally missed the deadline for but refuse to ditch. I’ll get there. One day.
DSC_0122
That seems to be the mantra for all my days. That one day, it’ll be okay. That one day, I’ll have the willpower to make it today and not one day. That one day will come when I don’t have to remind myself one day is coming. So until that day comes, I’ll try to do the best I can today. Which wasn’t much, but it’s coming- it’s coming! 😛
Here’s to another day, you guys- we’ll make this week. Somehow. *props to you all*

Canada & America- A Comparison: A Collab Post By Meredith And Jo

2019-02-03

Hello wonderful people of the earth! Or Narnia, Asgard, the Death Star, Middle Earth, whichever you come from. Hi. 🙂 First and most importantly, GET OFF THE DREADED READER IF YOU’RE ON IT AND GO CHECK OUT THE ACTUAL SITE THANKY YOU.

(I told myself I wouldn’t change my theme ever anymore, but.. well, it was Friday, and I finished my homework (ish) and I was bored and well. CHECK. THE. BLOG. OUT. It’s a drastic (and hopefully much better XD) change. So go and please, please check it out and I’m done sounding like a hopeless blogger even though I am XD)

Alright. On with this post. *plugs in Infinity War* *cracks knuckles* *dies*

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3BRight, so by now you’ve heard of Meredith, right? She’s the sweet and awesome blogger behind Artsy Arrow which, if you haven’t heard of before, you really should check it out. I’m so glad I got to know Meredith and bond with her about AIO, books, homeschooling, and, well, that’s she’s also in Ontario, Canada! 😀 Fancy that. We thought it would be pretty great if we could  share our experiences about the other’s country, since we both lived in the US/Canada for a time.

IMG_3073

I first went to the States when I was five for a family reunion, and to be perfectly honest… it feels like home. So I’m more than happy to talk about the differences between two countries I love. Hopefully y’all like it. 😉

IMG_9287

People are just kinda a notch or two warmer and friendlier, for some reason.

If you’re scoffing at this, blame the fact I’m Canadian and wouldn’t really know what it’s like to be American. XD But Americans are just really friendly people! Sneeze in Walmart? Someone says “bless you”. Wait in line at a McDonalds? Any random person could say hi. Stop at a rest area at 2 am on a Friday night? You’ll find yourself being asked how your trip is. Canada is friendly.. but not in every part of the country like that. XD It’s nice.

IMG_3151

Patriotism’s really strong.

I kinda grinned one time pulling up to my aunt’s neighborhood and seeing so many American flags from the windows and everywhere. And not just the flags- like seeing little “God Bless America” signs and just the.. vibe. Correct me if I’m wrong. 😛

IMG_9433

People say “you’re fine” when you say “thanks”.

I tested this at a store once. Approximately everyone I interacted with said “you’re fine” whenever I said “thank you”. It’s awfully sweet of them to confirm my emotional status, but, uh, I don’t think I can get used to it. XD

IMG_9573

You say “sir” and “ma’m” and not “tito” and “tita”.

Ah. Double culture. XD um, well, in Filipino culture, the equivalent of sir is tito and for ma’m, tita. Add in the fact that most of my Canadian world is Filipino, and I don’t get to say the English versions much. 😛 Although I did get to going to Ottawa, but yeah. I find that interesting.

IMG_9533

A lot of my family’s on the other side of the border.

Does this make a ton of difference? It kinda does for me. After people find out I’m “the cousin of so and so’s friend’s sister-in-law’s brother,” they just start asking questions and being friendly and I’m not very much used to that, because I’m a sheltered homeschooling bean. XD No, but really, I went to a Sunday-school once, and after my aunt told the teacher who I was, Mrs. Iforgotyournamebutthankyouforputtingupwithme just beamed. “Oh, we’ll make sure she has a great time!”

I really did. XD

Maybe that’s why I feel at home. Huh. Dunno.

IMG_9556

American sweet tea is sugar water with a weak strain of some powered Lipton tea!

*gags* I’m not sure I like this part of American culture once. I tried Chikfila sweet tea and.. wow. That’s my sugar intake for the day. Finished in one sip. *shudders* How can anyone handle that sweetness? Someone help and explain. Anyway, our sweet tea’s really tea. XD Probably flavored with maple syrup. 😛

IMG_9559

SMALL TOWN AMERICA IS THE STUFF OF LEGENDS.

I’ve yet to really be in small town Canada (somewhere on the bucket list), but if it’s like small town America, I’d die of happiness. Again, I can’t say for sure what it’s really like, but my family walked into a Taco in Ohio somewhere once. There were like 2 people working the counter, and one was spoon-feeding her grandkid, who was eating there, there were two girls in the corner booth just talking. Then, one guy comes in, doesn’t order anything. I’ll never know why he came in, but everyone in the restaurant except for my family immediately shouted, “DON’T GIVE HIM HER NUMBER.”

Dorky me: I WANNA SEE THE REST OF THIS. AND WRITE IT DOWN. *dead*

I wish I could remember that town. I’ll go back one day.

I kinda wanna ask if he got her number, but I suppose that’s a mystery for the ages.

IMG_3080

America has the best franchises. Ever.

Chikfila. Cracker Barrel. TRADER JOE’S. We don’t have these wonders in Canada (except Chikfila’s coming here and I couldn’t be happier) and the obvious need for them SHOWS. I’ve been to Chikfila tons of times but I haven’t gotten to try a Chikn mini. I think that needs to change. Also, have you ever heard of Trader Joe runs? Yes, well, they’re part of the reason my family tries to road trip once a year- COOKIE BUTTER. *dies* I’d cross the border once a week for it. XD And Target didn’t even last in Canada like a yearish. 😦 Wah. I kinda miss it. Ish. It’s like Walmart but red.

IMG_9548

I hope this post wasn’t too cringey XD I had a ton of good memories writing it, and now I really wanna dash across the border to say hi to everyone I know in the states. 😛 All my friends are on the other side of the border, why is that? 😛  I had a hard time bottling up my wandering self in the pictures and I’ll probably do a wanderlust post of some sort sometime- but yeah.

IMG_3054

America is a beautiful country. It’s not perfect- no country is, but God’s really blessed me through the people (the ones I know, of course 😛 ) living there, and I hope what the wonderful U.S of A stands for doesn’t change. Even though it kinda already is, but that’s a topic for another time. As Thor said, “Asgard isn’t a place. It’s a people.” And so is America.

I wish I knew why God put me in Canada- apparently, if things had been just a tad different, I’d be an American. But there’s a reason, I suppose, why both countries feel like home, and until I figure it out, I’ll just enjoy living in the true North- or so they call Canada. XD Besides, if I hadn’t been living here, I’d never have gotten to really get to know Meredith! Go check out her post about Canada’s differences- sums it up better than I ever could! 😀

Why Willabeth is a power couple, mostly according to Enni :P

See the source image

Is this post late? Yes.

Am I sorry? No.

Should I be? Probably. But uh, I just finished watching Incredibles 2 with my family, and as I always try to say “life before blogging,” I don’t regret a thing. And trust me, I’ll be talking about that soon. TRUST me. But for now.. da post!

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

Hey-lo! A happy mundane Wednesday to you.

I mean, you have school, don’t you? Mundane it is.

As such, here’s hoping this crazy unfortunately mushy post will crack a grin on your face, as I present the next part of mine and Enni’s duology! Which was in the title! Because I definitely gave it away with the jar of dirt gif! 😀

And ehhh, most of my reasons are actually Enni’s, because there’s no way I’m this mushy about a ship, so if any of these appear to a. have CAPS LIKE THIS b. the word love, or c. an overall aura of hopeless mush, don’t blame me. Go check out Enni’s post, she has the cooler reasons XD

(Also E is Elizabeth, W is Will. But y’all know that already. 😉 )

1. THE WAY THAT W LOOKS AT E WITH PUPPY DOG EYES

See the source image

My fine mate, you’re looking at Elizabeth,  not the horiz- oH.

You hopeless romantic.

What is it with people looking into someone else’s eyes? I could write a whole paragraph about starting into someone’s eyes and it still wouldn’t be enough to describe it.

2. E isn’t some useless love interest whose purpose in the story is fulfilled once W comes in, she’s in every right her own character.

hoist the colors

YES. YES. YES.

I don’t know about you, but I hate it when any character, girl or guy, exists solely as a love interest- when they could be developed and rounded out and deep and impactful and when they do not need another person to make them a good character, they’re good on their own. And that is Elizabeth.

I mean, have you noticed her arc? Elizabeth starts off as a girl in high society, tries to help kid Will Turner so he won’t be mistaken for a pirate, accidentally triggers a bunch of problems, has to deal with Norrington (at least I think that’s his name), has to get used to pirates and fighting and all that, and then finally becomes a pirate in her own right. And fights and leads an armada.

What an arc. And yet, she’s still in love, but still strong.

*mindblown*

3. W genuinely supports and cares for E without being creepy HE LOVES HER

See the source image

Unlike *cough coughs* Norrington and like a bunch of other people I could mention right now.  No offense to James. He’s a good guy- helped the right side in the end. It’s just that… do you remember that scene where Elizabeth’s fainted because her corset is so tight, and when she mentions it to Norrington, he mentions how nervous he is? Cause.. I do. 😀

Anyway, Will is pretty great. He doesn’t assume Elizabeth can’t do anything by herself, he doesn’t feel the need to rush to her aid whenever fate would have her stumble, he fights with her and backs her up and I mean.. he said so himself, he’d die for her. He’s doesn’t hesitate to stand in harm’s way while knowing Elizabeth can protect herself. And that’s pretty nice. Scratch that, it’s really nice.

4. W and E are SO DEDICATED TO EACH OTHER IT’S NOT FUNNY
goodbye

So, uh, spoiler for those who haven’t watched it yet (but if you haven’t, well, this whole post is a spoiler) William and Elizabeth uh– get separated. And to top it off, they can’t see each other for 20 years.

20.

20.

I’m not sure I could handle not seeing my best friend for 20 months, let alone years. But they chose to do that. They knew it would be hard, and still, they decided being apart together was better than being apart period.

I don’t understand these weird people. But dedication. Wow.

5. Their wedding is the best wedding in history, and I will never take that back.
willabeth fight scene

Correction, Enni might never take it back, but I sure would. Because I’ve seen other– that spoils this section so nevermind. XD But while I wouldn’t go so far to say that it’s the best wedding in history, it’s one of the best fictional weddings.

They get married in a STORM.

With some creepy monster.

And people attacking them.

AND THEY SAY THEIR VOWS WHILE STABBING WEIRD CREEPY BAD GUYS.

oh, and need I mention they fight in sync— holding hands?? Now when’s the last time you saw a couple do that- much less fight, period? Hats off to these two. They have better fight choreography than my left feet. XD

But seriously. It’s pretty great.

So there you have it. My reasons for why Willabeth is a power couple. Is it kinda weird that this is coming from me? I guess. But I stand by it the same. While I can’t fully support everything in the POTC movies, I do want to point out the good parts it has- and Willabeth is one of them. 🙂

tl;dr: Willabeth is a great couple because they are equally strong characters, and their being in a relationship is tested over and over, yet they refuse to let go- even if it means they will hurt.

*bangs head* I’ve had it with mush for one day. Goodnight! 😀

Life is a highway,

 Jo

A Collab With Enni About The 101’s of Captain Jack Sparrow-ing

Jack's Compass - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Surprised to see a title like that from a blog like this?

Me too, to be honest. Me too.

In all honesty, the idea of talking about a film series I haven’t watched in ages never crossed my mind until a few days ago, when Enni and I thought it be a good idea for a collab.

Speaking of Enni, if you haven’t followed her blog yet or at least checked it out WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE go, go, go! Enni’s one of my first and craziest blogger friends that I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and her take on everything is pure and simple INTP. Go on and ask her about MBTI- I personally guarantee she won’t stop talking. As far as personalities go, Enni is an old, good, crazy soul.

Who’s probably waiting for this post right now. Heh. hehe. hehe.

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

Pirates Of The Caribbean. Pirates. Fights. Swords. Rum. An unhealthy amount of rum. Strange sea-monsters. Epic music. These are probably what comes to mind when thinking of one of the biggest pirates movies/stories around.

It’s not really one with the best morals, either, y’know? I mean, there’s pirates. What more evidence do you need? It’s no Sherwood film, and to be honest, it’s probably on the same level as Guardians of the Galaxy. Entertaining, but more entertaining than wholesome.

So why am I writing a post about?

More importantly, why do I like it?

Well, I’m a writer. And this is like one of my favorite case studies: characters, plot, setting, SHIPS *hollers* villians, the whole bit. But the entire story in general has it’s good parts. And it has it’s hilarious parts. And the thing is, Jack- er, Captain Jack isn’t completely shallow.  I mean he is, but..

Use as a quote for a treasure chest filled with golden rocks with "treasures" written about the person..
No offense mate, but you stole this from Bilbo. *frowns* Good quote to steal though!
jack sparrow
Relatable.

I really took a hundred + words to say nothing? Wow. 😛 Ahem.  Let’s go before I walk the plank. Enni had the first five rules or whatever they may be called, and I have the last ten.

(Also- psst: look carefully- this post has an Easter egg for what’s next in our POTC duology 😉 )

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

6. After anything offensive you might’ve said, always tack on a “savvy”.

See the source image

Extremely important, mates! With the tacking on of savvy, one needn’t fear of looking like an awkward land-lubbering greenhorn. When saying the word savvy, open your jaw and let your tongue flap, it works much better that way. Tilt your head in the most smuggest position you can think of and flash your gold teeth as you do so.

This goes well in hand with, “did you see that? because I will NOT be doing it again” and I suggest practicing as often as possible to ensure a truly Captain Jack Sparrow flair. Because if you’re like me, which you are not, then you may want to find yourself saying savvy after every sentence, just in case you don’t want a sword in your face or say, having to walk the plank. It turns out to be quite useful at times.

7. Do your best to look suspiciously at any and all monkeys.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I didn't understand this until I watched till the end of the credits of Curse of the Black Pearl. Seriously, go watch it.

Don’t forget to hiss words like, “ooh, monkey” and “beast” as you flap your hand at a thieving little rasca- mammal with a handy tail. And make sure you squint especially hard at that monkey- for all we know, that sneak could’ve been related to that same one in Night At The Museum.. we’ll never know. *mysterious look*  Obviously, this means you must hate all monkeys, whether they’re shrunk up in bottles or snatching your jewelry. And look for a monkey if in desire to shoot something.

8. When in doubt run- preferably with your arms flailing and screaming never hurt.
See the source image

Oops, wrong one.
See the source image

Much better!

Now, I honestly don’t think you’ll be stuck on an island full of cannibals trying to cook you for supper, but if that or something pretty equivalent to that befalls you (say, it’s your turn in the church nursery or perhaps you’re pulling up to your annual family reunion or you’ve accidentally taken an important locket or you’re playing a highly crazy game of tag) then, follow the captain and RUN FOR YOUR LIFEEEEEEE!!

It’s simple really. Move your feet really fast, lift your arms and wave them wildly, and scream like there’s no tomorrow! 😀 It takes a moment of extreme panic- which will come eventually!

9. Whenever you find large jars of dirt, raise them up in triumph and loudly proclaim, “I’ve got a jar of dirt!”

Yeah, you have NO idea how important this one is! I mean, you could be holding one of the Avengers, mate, so lift that jar high and proud as you dash past some very confused mates and confuse the enemy.

Just don’t drop it, of course, because you can’t vacuum a boat!

And yes I just mentioned another fandom. >:)

10. If a plan sounds mad and there’s an 80% chance you’re gonna die- DO IT.
See the source image
And this, of course, is the epitome of Jack Sparrow- doing everything that’s dangerous and risky and plain out DEATH INDUCING and somehow surviving anyway.

It’s best, of course, to be confident about it. Say something insightful and confusing, like, “the problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.” And then solve the problem! 😀

Some good examples of mad, 80% risk of death plans include but are not limited to: doing all your homework on the last day, jumping off a cliff into water, saying hi in a different language to someone you’ve never met, figuring out if it’s yanny or laurel, writing 18k on the last day of NaNo, sneaking aboard a donut ship, solving riddles with a mangy ring loving bony raw fish eater, and going for the head.

If you follow these ten tips carefully, you should be on your way to being a great Captain Jack Sparrow! Just don’t drink rum- it ain’t good fer ya. Oh, and 11. Spout advice when you have it. Example:

Jack Sparrow Quotes | We Need Fun

I’m rather looking forward to the second part of this duology. 🙂

Oh, and check out Enni’s post here! Cause she’s way better at this stuff. XD

Life is a highway,

Fauxthors Prepare For NaNoWriMo

a header for a collab

Hey everyone! Having a great day? I sure hope so! If not, well, maybe this will make you cheer up. I’m doing a collab with Tess, from Steeplechase (that kinda sounds dumb since there’s only one Tess and Jo on the blogosphere as far as I know but yeah XDD ) And we’re the fauxthors (faux authors) who’s getting together to talk about NaNoWriMo. After some late late laaaaaaaaaate night planning, we got enough questions for both of us to answer. So now, please welcome Tess! (Or you’ll wish you did…)

DSC_0181

One more thing. What Tess doesn’t know is that I am not going to be interviewing her. Gale Darn, one of my charries is! (Her name before has been Durnham, but I changed it) Being the doublecrossing sneaky writer I am, I kept it a secret til now. Take it away Gale!

DSC_0174

Gale: Heeya, people reading Jo’s blog! *waves* This is the first time she’s ever invited a charrie by special request, especially after my brothers hacked her blog.. twice. I guess I’m the good child. Anyway, let’s start before Jo changes her mind!

Gale: Bold

Tess: Italics

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What’s a writing snack you refuse to part with?
Cookies. And cheese sticks.
Yumm! I love whatever’s in the fridge XD Mostly cookies.
Where is the place you feel safe to write in?
I feel safe to write wherever people are not looking over my shoulder? And I love to write in public. #extraverted
*shudders* You’re brave. I can’t do anything without crazy Zeke yapping me about it. I hope Jo kills him off.
What’s your #1 writing music?
DON’T MAKE ME CHOOSE probably Adam Young Scores BUT THERE’S SO MUCH MORE
Ooh! 😀 I like Country Hymn, it’s awesome!
DSC_0177
When is peak writing hour for you?
I would love to say that it’s first thing in the morning. Because that’s when I have time. But I really write best at night. So….11pm?
That explains a lot of things… hm.. all my cool photoshoot ideas are at 11 too! I have no clue why.
Biggest distraction from prep/pep?
Youtube. Chatting people. Little Alchemy. Literally anything but writing. OH LOOK A DOG
Oh, that’s Lola! Come here! Ak! HELP SHE’S ON MEEEEE *is squashed* *comes back*
Have you ever handwritten something sizable?
I wrote…some essays. I haven’t.
I haven’t even written any essays if I can help it they’re terrible.
What’s something you wouldn’t normally do but did anyway merely because that’s what a charrie did?
I started saying “Sweet cheese and crackers!” simply because I made Sasha say it once. No regrets tho.
Hee, that’s funny. I remember someone told me I should stay in the kitchen and bake cookies cause I’ma  girl, so I took a cue from Connie Kendall, baked bad cookies, and gave it to him.. where was I going with this?
DSC_0175
When do you sleep during Nanowrimo?
In four-hour bursts, especially toward the end of the month.
O_O That’s long naps. Then again, I go in five hours per day cause that’s life. Can’t judge.
How important is worldbuilding?
Ummmm worldbuilding is EVERYTHING. What good is a play without any set? Seriously tho.
You should totally come to Rocky Road, we’ve got the craziest world! Like we have a bookstore/diner, an old barn that’s a lab, and this weird shop I haven’t snooped in since I was 7. I dunno what Jo was thinking..
Who’s your favorite charrie you’ve ever created?
This is SUCH a hard question! If I had to pick just one, then probably Sasha Sokolovsky. She’s really unique, in my opinion.
Aw, I’d love to meet her! I think we’d be good friends. I think I know Jo’s favorite charrie… anyone other than Zeke Darn. *glowers*
Have you ever made yourself cry with your own writing?
Once, when I was a little writing potato. It was the first time I killed a character. And it was sad at the time, but it really isn’t that sad anymore.
That’s sad. Deaths hurt.
DSC_0182
Have you ever written a bilingual charrie?
This is a tough question, because my characters tend to sprinkle in foreign words in their dialouge. (It makes it richer.) But technically, the race of wolves I was writing about were Russian (and spoke it) so…Kseniya, Sanya, Pyotr, Nikita, and all the others. I haven’t thought about that in so long, wow.
Ooh, that’s fascinating! I have a neighbor who’ll whip out the most confusing Gaelic I’ve ever heard. He keeps trying to teach me but I can’t get it. Anyway..
DSC_0183
What’s the stupidest/most annoying character you’ve ever written?
Oh boy. There was this character in my noveldraft Brother Robin named Clive Clithertoe. You know it’s bad when I hate him. And I’m writing him. And supposedly sympathetic toward him. Spoiler alert: I hated his very soul.
I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL I HATE THIS GUY’S VERY SOUL.
Zeke: Are you talkin’ trash about me, Gale?
Nonsense get lost! Anyhoo, it was nice interviewing ya, Tess! Bring Sasha next time!
And hey, you can see Jo’s interview part on Tess’s blog Steeplechase. Catchy, Tess! Though I’ve never ridden anything but Western. 😛 See ya!
Zeke: *muttering dark threats*
Well, that went well. See ya here next time.
What Shapes Culture Is People (and why that’s important)
subtitle
Hey everyone!  Doing well?
I hope so- because I am shaking scared right now.  Fear has kept me from saying what I think. What I am about to say is not an easy topic.
But I have to say it. Even if I’m in no way qualified to say it.
You don’t have to agree, but I hope what I will say will make you stop and think.
There’s something I’ve noticed over the years. And that is culture -people-  are heavily influenced by media. The right ways to be healthy, smart,  to live, practically everything from A to Z is touched somewhat by media, by the internet, by what we see on our screens and hear. Whatever shows up on the media, people are quick to believe. And repeat. And follow. That’s how media works. That’s how culture works.
poster 1
And the people who run the media, the books, the TV shows, what people see online, those people have a big say on culture. They stress equality for all, and promote tolerance and acceptance for everyone. That’s a huge power. And it can do great things. It can break down barriers.
But it can also blur lines.
In recent times, there has been a big push for the mentality that you should do what’s true for you, and that anyone can be what they want to be. In a lot of ways, the latter’s true. Both guys and girls can do tons of jobs, and equally do well. In a lot of ways, the former has problems. If truth is up to you, then what defines truth?
Copy of Tumblr Graphic – Untitled Design
Putting that aside, the mentality of “be what you want to be” has begun to mean more that just that. Today, you can literally be who you want to be. How you identify is a thing now. And that’s begun to be given the spotlight in our media, it’s begun to be big, it’s in our books, and on our TV shows, and is everywhere on the internet. We hear it over
and over
and over
and over
and over
and over
and over.
You probably got tired of all those overs, didn’t you?
Well, I am. This “be what you wanna be” thing is everywhere. It’s one thing to talk about it on the news, or write about it, it’s another when it’s so present, like the goal is to get you to accept this. In some cases it has gone to the point of complete absurdity.
Am I mad that it’s everywhere? No. I’m mad that I’m expected to accept what the media shows as good.  It’s getting to where you can’t change the channel if you don’t like what’s on. Culture seems to be mad at Christians for not agreeing, for being different. . We don’t like what’s being shown, and they’re mad at us for it, calling us close-minded and judgemental.
Well, we were never supposed to be part of this world, or its culture.
So am I one of those people who go around yelling, ” YOU’RE WICKED AND YOU’RE GONNA BURN” wherever I go? (Believe it or not, people who sadly call themselves Christian have said things to this extreme.) Is this why I’m making this post? NO! God hasn’t called Christians to go around saying things like that, and it’s just plain hurtful. We believe His Word that He made man and woman, and that’s it. Does that mean we stone or hate people who think differently? NO!
Why I’m making this post? Because I am not gonna stand by and watch idly as our culture demands that we accept what they promote as truth, even if the definition of truth isn’t a priority for them, and then they’ll get mad at Christians for being “preachy”.
What shapes people’s minds is culture. What shapes culture is media. And what shapes media is people. People shape people’s minds. People shape people. It’s only a matter of time before the things we deem wrong today will be applauded later on.
   Because we tolerate all, Christians have a right to say their thoughts too, am I right? Or does that not apply to certain people? Who decides that, and how do we know they’re judging fairly what should be in the media and what should not? Is there a line? And is that line blurred? And probably right now, you’re thinking that I don’t know what I’m saying. Whether or not you agree-
Those are my thoughts.
