Julia Nelson Blog Tour Launch! Thing! Interview! *thumbs up*

Whatever day this is, hopefully you’re enjoying. Because if not, then.. Uhh, I’m sorry.

There goes my attempt at a catchy intro.

Today I get to help out with a blog launch for a growing teen writer and blogger: Julia Nelson! 😀 So without further ado, Julia Nelson everyone!

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

Hi Julia! 🙂 Thanks for letting me interview you! So to start this off, when did you start writing, and when did you start writing seriously?

Hi, Jo! Thank you so much for doing this! 🙂

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. I started writing seriously when I joined the Young Writers Workshop in January 2018. It’s been a terrific and life-changing experience!

*nods* That sounds wonderful! So since last year. Now, how did you decide, “alright, I’m ready to do this, let’s start a blog”?

I remember wanting a place where I could share my writing with the world. After joining the Young Writers Workshop, I realized that starting a blog is important to start growing my platform as a writer. So a few months later, I started my first blog, Willowcreek Pines.

Julia NelsonNow, as I’ve continued to improve in my writing and blogging, I’ve realized that my current blog needs an update. So I’m launching my new blog, Julia Nelson! I believe I will be able to better serve my readers with this new blog.

That’s really cool! 😀 What are you looking forward to through writing and blogging?

I’m looking forward to serving, helping, and encouraging fellow writers, bloggers, and Christians. I love posting every week and using words to tell a story or a message that God has laid on my heart.

DSC_0181

Stories are beautiful. And so are words. XD It’s a funny thing with writers- if you had to choose between reading or writing, which would it be and why?

This is a tricky question, Jo! I know that you can learn a ton from books, but to be honest, I don’t make reading a priority (like I probably should). So I’d probably choose writing because I love making stories and characters come alive. It’s just something inside of me that I can’t get rid of. Even if I couldn’t read and didn’t know how to make a great story, I would still be able to write my own stories–even if I was the only person who liked them.

Oooh, I so get that! Writing your own stories is something pretty special. Uh. Anyway. What’s your opinion on YA books- and do you hope to write one in the near future? 😀

I don’t think I’ve read many YA books, so I’m sorry that I can’t give an opinion. And no, I don’t plan to write YA in the future. I enjoy writing books like Lynn Austin (one of my favorite authors)–Christian, historical fiction novels.

Those are lovely genres too! I always like reading (or writing) these with food, since for some reason I work better with sugar. XD All that to say, what’s your favorite writing snack? 😉

I like to eat all sorts of things. Here are a few of my favorites: chocolate, dates, apples, peanut butter + honey, and sparkling water + juice. The latter two are delicious combinations, and if you haven’t tried them yet, you should!

DSC_0022

Ooh, I think I will! That sounds really good and now I’m hungry. XD. Anyway, back to topic. Are you a fan of writing to music, and if you are, what’s your favorite songs?

I love music, and I can’t concentrate on my writing when there’s music in the background. It’s distracting, so I end up paying attention to the music instead of writing when I should be XD

XD I do that too! I think it’s a thing- but it’s a ton of fun nonetheless. Music helps me with ideas. Oh, speaking of, where do you go to for inspiration?

Great question! I actually wrote a guest post on this very thing, which you can find here. In this post, I tell you of three things that keep me writing when my “inspiration well is dry.”

Neat! And even neater you wrote it as a guest post! 😀 So you have some pretty good experience with writing. For the newbies (and for all writers, to be honest), if you could pass down a piece of advice about writing that’s helped you in huge ways, what would it be?

Never give up. Three small words with a huge meaning. Whenever I’m in a slump, I need to remember that every writer has gone through this. Every published author has had fears and struggles, so it’s completely normal–and completely okay–if I also have writing struggles.

So again, never give up on your writing dream. Just because you aren’t a “perfect” writer, doesn’t mean you can never get published.

*sniffs happy tear* That was.. beautiful. 🙂 And I’m bookmarking that and looking at it whenever I’m tired of writing next month. XD To end, lastly, if you could go to any fictional world, but had to stay there for the rest of your life, where would you go?

I would go to Narnia. 😀

DSC_0091

A very wonderful answer. 🙂

*applauds* I had a great time Julia, and I can’t wait to read more of your writing and your blog! 😀 Thank you so much for letting me interview you!

A Quicky Q&A and Random Updates

DSC_0001

I had a post coming on, but it wasn’t ready and I wasn’t ready and Enni, the brilliant genius she is, messaged me and asked for a post idea since she was a little low on creativity and since I was low on energy, I suggested a collab interview since those are fun and I was way too tired to think.

There’s an example run-on sentence for your grammar books kids. *thumbs up* On with this post. Although you should probably check out Enni’s answers to my questions over here since they’re much more fun than my answers. And she also posted my death threat on hers too. Cool stuff.

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

1. If you could start life over, would ya?
If I could start life over… what. Uh. *sighs* *thinks deeply* No. Because the life I have right now is crazy enough. XD

2. How would you describe your sense of style?

I have no sense of style- it comes and goes.

3. What’s your favorite season?

WINTER FOREVER- snow, skates, CHRISTMAS, more snow, ice, winterrrr
DSC_0064

4. What are your life’s goals?

To live, obviously. And to publish a book, learn to drive, get a black belt, be on American Ninja Warrior, act in any kind of production, go to Bible Bee Nationals, and meet all of my blogger friends on a road trip around the world.

5. Which place in Europe would you most like to visit?

*waves hands wildly* Scotland! One, because of Brave, and two, because.. because Scotland. 😛

I’d also like to stop by Switzerland one time.

6. Which Marvel death broke your heart the most?

*sniffs* Thank you for asking about a fandom Enni I love you so- it would have to be Vision, because Wanda had to watch him die twice and she couldn’t do a thing to stop it and also because poor grey Vis’s lifeless self is heartbreaking. Also Spiderman and Bucky’s  were pretty horrible.
DSC_0075
7. What time do you normally get up in the mornings?
I do my best to get up around 6 or 7- it sometimes happens. Sometimes.

8. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read?

The worst book I ever read shall go nameless to protect the innocent, but it was a Western that was so bad I’d rather read Twilight and I hate Twilight. It was so horribly preachy, the characters were unrealistic, the bad guy wasn’t bad guy-y enough, and to top it all off, it was supposed to be good Christian fiction. Ugh.
DSC_0121

9. Cursive or print?

Cursive forever- what can you do with print anyway? Other than print? Legit nothing. Be-yuk.
10. Which of your fandoms is your favorite?
As if I can choose between any of them?? O_O I can’t! Probably AIO. Or the MCU. Or LOTR. It’s a tie between those three.
cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b
Thus concludes the mini random interview. *sighs and slumps onto couch*
Now for the updates that nobody asked for.
I have 4 drafts in my Editor, waiting for me to publish them. Which, I probably won’t until much later when they’re completely faded from relevancy. It’s not like I’m tired of blogging- it’s just that I’m tired, period. It’s hard volunteering for something you didn’t volunteer to do it, y’know? But that’s over now and I’m just in the fallout, waiting for energy to come back and… yeah. I’m alive! *thumbs up* In case you were wondering. Heh.
Currently in the process of finishing my NaNoWriMo 2018 project so I can move on to April Camp 2019’s WIP.. which I’ll announce eventually. As well as the secret project that I totally missed the deadline for but refuse to ditch. I’ll get there. One day.
DSC_0122
That seems to be the mantra for all my days. That one day, it’ll be okay. That one day, I’ll have the willpower to make it today and not one day. That one day will come when I don’t have to remind myself one day is coming. So until that day comes, I’ll try to do the best I can today. Which wasn’t much, but it’s coming- it’s coming! 😛
Here’s to another day, you guys- we’ll make this week. Somehow. *props to you all*

One Year Of This Lens

I am a bad blogger, and that’s the absolute tea. XD I *had* posts coming out last week, but I only published the lone roasting of posts because.. life. School. YouTube. You know what it’s like. 😛  Makes me wonder how I actually made it to a whole year of blogging.

*record scratches*

It’s been a year?

I’ve been blogging for apparently an entire year? O_O Mindblown.

Yeah. I have. One year ago today, I flipped open a laptop, found WordPress, and started this whole thing. I have no insightful words to say about this, other than MAN MY BLOG DESIGN WAS BLEH. *shudders*

Untitled design.png

Thank you for one whole crazy year of blogging- to be honest, I never expected to make it this far, and I had zero clue what was gonna happen. It takes readers for a blog to be a blog, so thank you so much. 🙂

I was gonna announce my secret project for release, but since life made me push that behind for a while *humph* I guess I can announce my other secret! XD Which is….

I answered your questions on a podcast of sorts.

If you’ve followed Welcome To Odyssey, then you might’ve heard my horrible covers of AIO songs, and probably cringed at the sound of my voice in general. So what better thing to do to celebrate a year than to ruin it entirely with almost 45 minutes of my squeakly squeaky voice? 😀 But yeah, here you can find out if I actually have ships, the truth about my OTP, and how I got into photography! *nodnod*

Also, I’m awkward, and yes, I used Sleeping At Last’s music in the background, and yes, I may or may not have said stuff like, “How could youuuu” and “whyy” very dramatically. 😛 So, sorry in advance for that, and I don’t mean to offend anyone. Truly.

I think this is the last time I’m doing something like this.

Maybe I’ll let you know my other plan sometime soon. *thumbs up*

What This Blogger Was Up To In The Past (And what she’s up to in the present…)

DSC_0271

(Also known as roasting my first posts..)

Was I gonna post this early and be all nice and productive? Yes.

Did I accidentally spend a bit too much time trying to figure out a schedule for life and having “I’m Not Here” playing on repeat because it’s like the exact representation of a charrie but in music form? Yes. (Don’t get me started on this because the song fits this scene I’m writing to the minute details. And it’s a sad song. And this scene is heartbreaking. *dead*)

Did I post this early and be all nice and productive? no. But time’s a constrict, so.. XD

Hiya and welcome to another couple hundred words with the absolute waster of words, me.

It’s kinda funny how time just goes by. You blink and it’s New Year’s Day, blink again and Home Improvement is having its occasional marathon, blink again and the kids are taller now, and they can talk, and blink again and you’re writing this very post.

2 person POV was never my strong suit. XD Anyway, in an odd celebration of sorts that my blogsiversary is next week (and that has yet another mundane celebration of its own) I’m rounded up only the best of my worst first posts, and well.. roasting them to a nice crisp black. 😀

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

What you’ll see here

Are words. That’s pretty obvious. Sometimes it will be in essay, or maybe I’ll write a short story, or a poem.  What ever is typed will go either here or In Another World Much Like This One.

Pictures will go here too. It depends on what pictures I take. One day it might be close-ups of a flowers, or a beautiful  landscape. You never know!

So take a scroll through The Lens & The Hard Drive.

*smh* Jo, dear, have you not read the definition of the word, “rant”? You’re listed under the example section of the word in the dictionary. Also In Another World Much Like This One is gone XD I’m much more comfortable saying what I need to say without the pretense of fiction. XD
At least you got one thing right! You’ll never know what I put up here. 😛

LOTR Rant: Books For the Win!

Is your interest peaked yet? Those are just portions from one part of the book! How about characters? Farmer Maggot, Elbereth, Gil-galad aren’t there either.

Perhaps you’ll want to take a peek into the books as well as the movies now?

All I’m saying is, for the avid fans, the books are just as thrilling. Of course, you’ll have to use your imagination…

I’m actually proud of this. My first real post was a fandom post! 😀 Honestly though, everything else is terrible. Who uses exclamation points like that anymore? Also, “Perhaps you’ll want to take a peek into the books as well as the movies now” assumes they watched the movies, and then who’s in a pickle if they don’t know of the fandom? You. Very smart, kid. Very smart. Also, thanks to you, LOTR hardly sounds barely interesting. Step up your persuasive speech game.

Also, after this it’s like I shut up and posted nothing but pictures. *facesmacks*

Life: An Update (Once More)

Folks, friends, countrymen, this week has been a blustery, windy week– weather-wise, of course.  Here we go!

April 4, so far, was the windiest day of the year. Trees were swaying, lampposts were shaking, signs were knocked down. The wind was whistling past the windows, throughout the street, and practically everywhere.

Jo, honestly, there’s no need to sound so dramatic. Is this an opening to a mystery novel? (not like you know how to write one) No. For goodness sake lighten up! 😛

Also, in one post I take pictures of the sun’s rays hitting a mirror. -_- smh

Last night, very late, my entire neighborhood had a blackout. All electricity was shut off for all of 15 minutes.

Let me give you a small piece of advice. Nobody cares. It’s boring hearing about you for a thousand words on end. (even though that’s what I’m doing right now… :P) Come up with something more original.

Here is a picture of night driving gone wrong. The picture, that is, not the night driving. The camera shook just when it took the picture and led to this atrocity. Somehow, it looked pretty interesting, so I kept it.

*snorts* Ain’t that the truth.

” “You know, if they do show up, that means they completely disregarded my talk about trespassing.” he noted. “What about us?” I mischievously asked Mr. Horace. “We must do what’s necessary to prevent possible danger.” he said as solemnly as he could, popping some popcorn into his mouth.

What’s happening? Why? Sorry, you can’t find out! The novel, however is going quite nicely. *rabbit trails* To you who are doing Camp NaNo, don’t stress! We can do it! To the rest of us who aren’t doing Camp NaNo, we can still do it! *ends rabbit trail*

You NAIVE child. Don’t stress? That was legit your first time doing NaNo, how can you go and tell seasoned pros “Don’t stress”? You have zero clue what on earth you’re talking about. Hush.

But that snippet. Yes. I’ll forgive you. Barely. 😛

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

I’m happy to say that I’ve grown. Minimally. Barely. But I’ve grown.

What better way to grow than you soundly bash myself for being so cringey? 😀

So now that you’ve survived dying of second hand embarrassment, on with the present part of this post!

*drumroll*

I’m doing a Q&A for the 19th of February!

.

..

..

.

.

..

*crickets*

Yeah, no biggie, I know. 😛 I *wanted* to do a giveaway, but what I have to giveaway is not quite ready 😉 so well, here we are. Hit the comments with every question under the sun! (except personal stuff such as home phone, place of birth, do I ship Jasonnie. If it’s a question used by the NSA, don’t. ask. it. >:) )

I’m kinda actually looking forward to the Q&A! hopefully it won’t be as bad as my first posts. Because it would be hard to roast a Q&A.

The more I say Q&A the more it sounds weird.

*gasp* A Blog Tour! You Don’t Say! The Daily Life Of Hailey Grace blog tour: interview with the author!

Happy last day of January, everyone! It’s the 31st day of the year. Can you believe that? Cause, no, I can’t. It seriously feels like I was still binging on The Two Towers ridiculously late at night, and now, here we are. Doing a blog post.

I’m honored to be one of the last in a long line of bloggers for The Daily Life of Hailey Grace blog tour- huge thanks to Livy Jarmusch for reaching out! Livy’s a YA author herself, and she’s organized a group of people to help promote a newly published author, Beloved..

Beloved is a ministry leader and Christian Romance Author born and raised in Miami, FL. She spends much of her time studying the scriptures and has a gift for sharing the Gospel. Through her debut novel, Beloved hopes to inspire youth to seek God whole-heartily, knowing there is nothing impossible with Him on their side!

And her novel!

For Hailey Grace, birthdays suck! She hopes with all her heart that her big day passes without gifts, or even a birthday wish. But with loving parents and two witty best friends who keep her on her toes, there’s no telling what adventure Hailey Grace will be forced to explore this time. Unexpectedly, her best friend Alex challenges her to do something she’s never done before. With that comes a whole new set of rules, and another life Hailey isn’t sure she’s quite ready for. Now questioning all that she has ever believed, she takes Alex up on the dare by asking for something that no one but God can give her. Her request also comes with a twenty-four-hour deadline. As the minutes slowly but surely tick by, Hailey’s life shifts into overdrive and she wonders if she has asked for too much too soon.

· Now, if you’ve seen the whole schedule, you might be expecting a book review as well as an interview. Due to some (technical) difficulties, and some confusion with links, I wasn’t able to get a copy to review in time for the post. 😦 But I’m looking forward to reading it nonetheless!

And now, please welcome Beloved up to the imaginary stage! 😀

So, to start things off..What’s the best thing about being a writer so far?

The best thing about writing is creating a world that readers can escape into to make their life that much more enjoyable.

·  That’s so true! I think that’s the joy of fiction, escaping. Uh, anyway..Where did the inspiration for this story come from?

The inspiration for The Daily Life of Hailey Grace came from Jesus. I remembered Him giving me this image of this little girl and the name to call her. I fell in love with the story, and the setting. There’s so much more behind that, but overall I just had to tell Hailey’s story.

·  That is so awesomely cool! I’ve heard people gain inspiration from like, looking at  random people, but never one like that. So what do you hope your readers will take away from this novel?

I hope readers will take hope away with them. I know everyone is coming from different walks of life, and we’re not all in the same place. But I believe everyone can use a little bit more of hope to get them through every day. I pray readers will draw such hope from The Daily Life of Hailey Grace.

· Amen. everyone can use hope. 🙂  Favorite ever writing snack?

My writing snack is potato chips! All kinds.

· Ooohhh, chips! I’m hungry now. 😛 Who was your hardest character to develop?

My hardest character to develop was Prince, because of who he represents.

· Sounds like a character I can’t wait to read about! Are you planning on publishing any more novels?

Oh yes! I plan on publishing many novels. There will be two more in the Hailey Grace Series. And I have quite a few things in the works that will follow afterwards.

·  Eep! Looking forward to it! How’d this writing journey start? When did you know you wanted to write a book?

I knew I wanted to write books for years now. Probably since I was a teenager, but only seriously pursue it about three years ago.

·  Ooh, that’s great! I’m glad you got to achieve that goal! 😀 Alright, was wondering, if you had an audience full of people and you could only tell them one thing, what would it be?

I would tell that audience that Jesus loves them and there’s nothing they could do to ever change that.

·  And that’s probably one of the best things you can say. 🙂 What did you do when you were so tired of writing (if you were)?

When moments of weariness occur, I would take a little break and pray and read my bible. It never fails to ignite my passion again to write and lose myself in the story.

·  *claps* Wow. It’s kinda funny, I don’t remember to do that until like, editing. XD But you do it throughout writing too. That’s.. pretty inspiring. 🙂 Finally, what’s the first birthday you remember?

I would say my 17th birthday, when my mom surprised me with having balloons delivered to my high school with gold fish crackers inside the gift bag. That was like one of my favorite snacks in high school and one of my favorite memories.

DID SOMEONE SAY GOLDFISH YUM.  That is a pretty sweet birthday! Well, thanks for letting me interview you, and I can’t wait to see where writing will take you! 😀

An Cringey Interview With An Unusually Calm Child, Plus Aesthetic Snow Pictures (not)

dsc_0017

For a second there I thought I was on the new editor and I panicked a bit. I HATE the new editor. 😛 Happy Sunday fellow friends, countryfolks, and bloggers and nonbloggers!

Anyway, last night I couldn’t sleep, so I used the surefire way to make anyone sleepy: brainstorming blogging ideas. You can guess how effectual that was. The result was 8ish hours of sleep and more blog post ideas than I know what to do with.

I’m actually planning ahead. For my blog. *mindblown*

So if you maybe are interested in new content, it’s coming. 🙂

Anyway, on to this post. I had fun with it.

Once in a blog, you’ll see those interview-with-younger-siblings posts. Those adorable transcripted babbles and hilarious comments and they’re just really fun. Who doesn’t love a 5 year old’s opinions on mac and cheese? I can’t really say I don’t, so. 😛

If you think you know where I’m getting at, I don’t have younger siblings. I’m the youngest. XD No point in interviewing myself right? But I do babysit. More like keepthekidsaliiiiiiveforanhourwhiletheirparentsarebusy. And not die myself in the process. These kids are crazy. But I love ’em. And it might be fun to showcase them on this blog. (And I may or may not be planning ahead for a school project, so heh.) Without further ado, Selse (name changed to protect the innocent- me, for one)! *thumbs up*

(And yes, I did get permission just so we’re clear.)

dsc_0020

*Cool Intro- just roll with it okay*

Me: Okay, I’m gonna ask you ten questions, just ten, kay? (Liar, Jo, liar) One. What is your favorite thing to do? (Wow, so original)

(basically Selse answers the Liebster Award)

Selse: *half-chewing on pizza* um.. do gymnastics.

Me: Do gymnastics? okay, that’s cool. What’s your favorite thing about gymnastics? (Jooo shut up)

Selse: *thinks* I like to do the bars flip.

*Edit side questions because cringe!*

dsc_0021

Me: What do you think about American Girl dolls? (Finally, Jo, a semi decent question)

Selse: Um.. I think they’re kinda creepy because I watched a video at night *sniffs nose* of, um, American dolls like, move around, and *laughs* take up knives and like, chop tomatoes with blood.

(I’m dying XD XD Stopmotion gone wrong? I guess we’ll never know)

Me: Okay, that is kinda creepy. So you watch these on YouTube?

Selse: Yeah.

dsc_0024

Me: What’s your favorite YouTube channel?

Selse: *waits* *mumbles something I didn’t catch* ..and I like slime videos because I like slimes.

(I had no clue slimes or slime videos were a thing until a year ago. Huh.)

Me: You like slimes? (Selse JUST said that Jo, stop repeating things to make yourself sound less awkward)

Selse: Yeah.

dsc_0025

Me: What kind of slime do you like? Butter slime, or… (halp I don’t know what I’m saying right now, obviously)

Selse: I like all slimes. That’s the… uh *plays with fingers* fluffy slime, fancy slime, butter slime, crunchy slime, and just regular slime.

Me: So any kind of slime?

Selse: Yes.

Me: That’s really cool. (I stand by this- do you know how much of a kid’s attention a glop of this glue mixture can capture? Where has this been all my life??) Okay, next question. What’s your favorite book?

Selse: Fairy books.

Me: Any fairy books?

Selse: I read like lots of them.

(And now I wanna write a fairy book XD)

dsc_0031

Me: Who’s your favorite Disney princess? (random, I know)

Selse: *deep in thought* I like Moana. *grins*

Me: How come?

Selse: Because that’s my favorite movie.

(forward thinking on Selse’s part!)

Me: That’s awesome! Let’s see… do you have any pets?

dsc_0032

Selse: I got like, a puppy.

Me: Really?

Selse: A really small puppy.

(it’s as big as you, child! I don’t think so! XD)

Me: Does it have a name? (cringe- I hate calling animals “it”.)

Selse: *smiles* Bailey.

Me: *nods* She’s the chocolate lab, the *chokes* little black dog?

Selse: Yes.

dsc_0035

Me: *after chuckling because our friend was dramatically smushing her nose in the glass door* Okay, uh, um, if you could be with anyone in the world, who would you be with?

Selse: Ooh, my sister.

(aawww kid- me, too, me too.)

Me: Aww, that’s great! *hurries a bit* Do you or do you not like Ariel’s sisters? (I only hear the girls I watch sing “Part Of Your World” for like an hour on end, kay? I really wanna know!)

dsc_0037

Selse: *shakes head* I don’t like them.

Me: *a dumb interviewer* How come?

Selse: I don’t really like mermaids.

(Ehh, welp, sorry Ariel.)

Me: Okay, gotcha. *grins goofily, which is my permanent look* What do you think of unicorns? (Where did THAT come from?)

dsc_0038

Selse: They’re good.

Me: Would you ever wanna touch one?

Selse: *sighs* Yes!

(can’t tell if this is a happy sigh or an exasperated sigh, but here’s hoping for the former. 😛 )

Me: Alright, do you like roller coaster rides, and what’s your favorite?

Selse: *gasps* Oh, in Canada’s Wonderland, those rides are SO good, I go on ALL *bangs fists on table* of them. *tilts head and smiles*

(Even…. BEHEMOTH?? Okay, this is truly a brave girl. How??)

dsc_0049

Me: Wow. Uh… what’s your favorite holiday, like, ever? (Yep, I said “like”.  I’m groaning now)

Selse: *looks back and forth and adorably props up her chin on her hands* *sighs* uh… Halloween and Easter!

Selse: And Valentine’s Day.

Me: Because of the candy?

Selse: *giggles* yes.

Me: And your favorite candy is….?

Selse: *thinks and drums her fingers on her table* Skittles, Kit-Kats, and pop rocks.

Me: Okay, cool! Okay, what do you think of pumpkin spice?

Selse: *dead serious* NO. No-o. *shakes head and pouts*

Me: *chuckling internally* You dont like pumpkin spice?

Selse: NO- and *gets excited* I also like Twix!

Me: *mishears* Twinkies?

Selse: *matter of factly* TWIX.

dsc_0054

*we laugh a little about my terrible hearing*

Me: Okay, okay, what do you think of millennial pink? (this.. wow. How do I even know what that is?)

Selse: Like this color? *touches her hairband, which has millennial pink written all over it)

Me: Yup!

Selse: It’s a just good color. *waves her hands like she’s patting someone for emphasis*

Me: cool. So: Hawaiian pizza. Evil or really good? (There have been debates about this for a while now XD)

Selse: *firmly* Good.

Me: Alright. Second to late question. Last question. Second question (make up your mind Jo): If you could go anywhere in the world, but you had to bring your brother, where would you go?

(Those two fight like cats and dogs)

(And then they love each other a lot too)

(Kids)

Selse: Canada’s Wonderland. (I ain’t trying to sponsor anyone, but they do have awesome rides :P) Or Disneyland!

Me: Nice! (also just appreciating how Selse picks the best places for her brother and her to go- and she’s just like that. Remind me to tell you about the time she was almost 5 and made up a song on the spot about their adventures) okay. Last question: If you could give any piece of advice, what would it be?

**************

The transcript ends here because of too much laughing and things which I have sworn to keep secret- only select friends can know. 😎 But, as messy and random as that was, I hope you enjoyed it! Top thanks to Selse for putting up with her weird babysitter and to her parents for still letting me keep an eye on her when they need me too. XD

Go out and talk to a younger kid today- maybe you’ll have better questions than I did! 😛 One thing’s for sure: every kid, no matter who they are, have insights and sometimes downright funny answers- if someone just listens to them. 🙂

Life’s a highway,

Jo

(I’m still trying to find my signoff, okay, so sorry for the cringe)

Reveries Co! (An amazing company that needs all the attention it can get + interview with one of the head brainstormers and co-managers)

First, don’t you love that header? 😀 If you don’t go back and look at it again. If you still don’t, I am concerned. XD

Today is the day I hop on the blog tour for Reveries Co, a new company for writers, by writers! And boy, what a lovely day it is too!

But how did Reveries Co. even start?

SP Spotlights - Kellyn Roth

As you know, Kellyn Roth is an amazing author of several historical fiction books (one of which I’m reviewing and dying because it’s so good) and her book covers are l o v e l y. Kellyn makes many of her book covers herself and for other people too.

Now, see, when Kellyn was making a website for her cover design business.

It needed a tagline, see.

And thinking about the tagline made Kellyn think about design, and editing, and marketing, and all that important stuff an indie writer and all writers in general have to think about. But Kellyn can’t do everything herself.

So what if there was a team of people with different skills, who got together to offer their services?

One thing led to another, and now we have this.

And that team is now, after months of hard work and careful planning, this:

It’s amazing how many skilled people are in this, many of whom are just teenagers. Which is awesome, because we need more Christian teen writers in the world!

But now to the important part of this post, the interview with Angela R. Watts, manager, head brainstormer, and author!

SP Spotlights - Angela R. Watts

  1. What inspires you to write, and what was the very first thing you wrote?

I have been a storyteller since I was very young, so the gift of writing is just in me. It is something that comes from my heart and I really can’t stop doing it when God moves me to. The first thing I ever wrote, besides some little short stories in a notebook, was a story about picking blueberries. I illustrated that story and binded it, as well!

  1. What’s your absatootely-ootly-wunderbaar-ootly favorite thing about the whole writing process?

As strange as it sounds, everything. I love the brainstorming after the initial ‘I HAVE AN IDEA’ stage. I love the writing the first draft without caring what anything looks like. I love the rewriting, too, and the editing. I enjoy working with beta readers and an editor. I love the publishing process, even if it is (to me) the most frustrating part because of technical details that are often tricky. So, yes, as weird as it is, I do love the whole writing process, just for different reasons!

  1. How did you know you wanted to join forces with Kellyn with this company for writers?

Kellyn came to me with the initial idea and we spent plenty of time brainstorming. I immediately knew Reveries Co. was what I wanted to do, because I’d asked the Lord to show me how to go about offering my own editorial services. Discussing the plans for Reveries Co. with Kellyn was the open door from God.

  1. As a writer, what’s something you wished was around to make selling books easier?

Whether you market online the most, or have the ability to do book conventions and author signings, selling books is often hard to do. If I could have a magical little tool that helped me sell books, it would be a teleporter, I think. That way I can go to people, chat with them, and give them a copy of my book. And, hey. I have a teleporter. That’s bound to get attention… Thus, probably more attention on my books, yeah?

  1. Where do you gain inspiration for writing?

Inspiration for stories come from God, and the motivation to keep on writing through it all comes from God, too! I do find motivation from talking to family and friends, listening to music, focusing on other things, and noticing the world. As a writer, it’s fun finding bursts of inspiration from random things.

  1. Are you planning on releasing any new books, and if so where can I read them?   Aw, thank you! I do plan on publishing in 2019. Prayerfully, at least two novels: JUMP, a YA supernatural novel, and the first book of The Infidel Books, AWAKE. They will be published through Amazon. If you follow my blog or subscribe to my newsletter (newsletter pals get BONUS content/news!), you won’t miss any updates for when these babies release!

  1. What exactly is your part in this awesome new venture?

Kellyn and I are both managers at Reveries Co., so my job is to keep up with emails, advertise, plan things with Kellyn, and make sure our customers are given the best service we can provide. I also offer my own services, such as developmental edits, manuscript critiques, line editing, as well as consulting!

  1. How do you hope Reveries Co can help Christian authors succeed?

I understand how difficult it can be to enter the self-publishing world, whether you struggle with a budget or don’t know how to find readers. I pray Reveries Co. is a way for authors to not only strengthen their story’s interior and exterior quality, but also find support from other Christian authors.

  1. What are some of your favorite aspects of Reveries Co…?

I adore the fact so many services can be reached on one responsive website, so not only can a person find what service they need, but there are more than one service providers at hand! I also like how supportive the service providers are, so even if you do not have a story completed for and editor, you can contact a consulter and gain publishing insight. Reveries Co. is for authors to gain confidence, strengthen their skills, and support other authors. I’m glad to be a part of that!

10. Does Reveries Co. work for both independent and traditional authors?

Reveries Co. offers quality services that both independent and traditional authors can benefit from. If you have intentions of self-publishing or plan on submitting your manuscript to an agent or publisher, we can help you prepare your book.

11. If I wanted to contact Reveries Co. but wasn’t quite sure if I needed help with editing or proofreading or blog tours or alpha reading, what should I do first?

If you are unsure what stage of editing your manuscript needs, I advise contacting Reveries Co. so we can get and idea of what service will fit. It can be hard deciding if you need a manuscript critique or developmental edit, or a line edit or proofread. However, we can help you decide, and look forward to helping!

For things like deciding on which blog tour package would best fit you and your book, contact us with your thoughts and wants! We’ll get you fixed up with what you need.

If you need consulting on other things, like wanting to know the pros and cons of alpha readers, you can contact one of our consulters. We’re friendly and love brainstorming with you!

Thank you so much for letting me interview you, Angela! 😀 I can’t wait to see where this is gonna go!

10 Questions With Rowan, And A Review Of Hide And Seek

Hide and Seek Blog Tour

Hello, people! Happy dreary slow moving traffic Monday, and all that wonderful homework. Ahem. Anyway, today is the day I get to interview a character. You see, Mya Gray has published her first ever book. Indeedy she has, and I get to review and interview! This should be good. If it’s not, I probably messed it up. 😛

About the Book:

Amara Clark is haunted. When her childhood friend, Asher, vanished during a seemingly ordinary game of hide and seek, she was left bewildered and alone.

Now, eight years later, memories of Asher are coming back to haunt her and she struggles to decipher the meaning of his disappearance. In a terrifying sequence of events, she comes to the deadly realization that a simple game of hide and seek can be much more dangerous than one might think.

Before they know it, Amara and her best friend, Rowan, are whisked away on a journey to find Asher and take down the sinister group that is holding him captive. But time is running out, and saving one friend could mean losing another.

About the Author:

Mya

Mya Gray is a teenager with a knack for words: when she isn’t penning a story, she can be found reading, taking photos, or blogging. Her dreams range from becoming a well-known author to fostering shelter kittens. Mya is a homeschooled high school student who resides in the Midwest with her parents, three siblings, and cat, Cupcake. Stay up to date with her and her writing on her website, lifefrombehindacamera.com.

Review 📖

Hide And Seek just became a little..spooky.

Poor Amara. Only a little kid, and she has to watch her childhood best friend Asher disappear before her very eyes, plus run into an owl to boot.

But that was years ago. Now, all Amara has to worry in her tiny town of Silverton is being late for school and getting detention. But even that’s not bad, considering that her best friend Rowan is there to suffer with her.

So why, why on earth is there a note for Amara telling her to finish her long abruptly stopped game?

Quote

And without knowing much about the danger ahead of her, Amara and Rowan set out to find Asher- and hopefully make it back alive.

Hide and Seek, without spoiling the book, is about waay more than hide and seek. There’s disappearances, tiny towns, snow, and cloaks to boot. But it’s mostly about Amara and Rowan, and the action is primarily on them. I would’ve liked to have more background on the two of them, because without fully connecting with the characters, I wasn’t engaged in the actual adventure.

That being said, the adventure was well described and written, and I enjoyed that part very much, even though *cough cough* it may not be a good idea to sneak off on a train with no parental permission? 😉 we all know that but just thought I’d throw that out there. The settings were all nicely written, and it wasn’t hard to see the places in my head. There’s also a mystery revolving around Amara, Asher, and another girl they find. It involves a bit of the supernatural, which I found was an interesting but hard to grasp element.

The entire story was a great first start for Mya Gray, who wrote a book that was full on action and mystery, with maybe a little less on exposition, but nonetheless a good read.

Interview 🎤

And please welcome Rowan to this here nice leather seat with a mic! To find out more about Rowan, read the book. 😛

Rowan mood board
Roawn’s mood board. 🙂

1. How are you doing today? Good, thanks.

2. Great! Um. So. What’s life like in Silverton, and do you like that life? Life in Silverton is what I would describe calm, ordinary, and quiet. Well, except for Asher’s disappearance. There are less than a thousand people, so it’s really small. I like it, but in the future I want to try living in a big city.

3. Sounds like a nice life! Now, I gotta know, how’d you and Amara meet and stay close friends all that time? We’ve been in the same class since we started going to school (there are so few kids at the schools here that there’s only one class per grade level). But we only really started talking when some guys were making fun of me. She was the only one who stood up for me. I didn’t have any friends, and Amara thought all the girls in our class were annoying. We’ve stuck together ever since.

Amara Aesthetic Collage

4.  Ooh, puts the home in “home room”, then. And that musta been great to have someone’s stand up for you. But, uh, when Amara let you know what was going on, did you ever think it would be so serious? No. Hardly anything ever happens in Silverton, so I expected her to tell me she was being punished for getting detention or something.

5. Detention is pretty bad, but not this serious, I’ll bet! What was racing through your mind when you and Amara left town in the night? That I would do everything I could to keep her safe. I know how much she cares about Asher, so I knew she would give up anything to save him. Amara’s decisions can be a little crazy at times, so I wanted to make sure she uses common sense. *laughs because Amara is glaring at me right now*

6. XD Good on ya, keeping your friend alive! It’s for your own good Amara! Oh, speaking of her, why did you decide to stick with Amara, even with those *cough cough* people told you to stay away? I knew better than to believe them. They were trying to split us up, so it would be easier to snatch her away without having to deal with me. So instead I made sure I was being even more careful and staying with her at all times. And I came on the journey knowing that I would have to risk everything to face Asher’s kidnappers.

Olive mood board

And last but not least, here is the mood board for Rowan Wood, AKA Amara’s best friend!

7. Doing the exact opposite, I like it. But it must’ve been difficult. How did you survive despite the hard conditions? What made you keep going? My mom. I knew she wouldn’t want me to give up. I want to live life to the fullest before I’m reunited with her in the end. Plus, I needed to be there for Amara when she returned to Silverton.

8. That’s a great inspiration. 🙂 So how will you be living life to the fullest? What are your plans for the future? Anything like leaving town for good? I’m still not sure. I might want to be a doctor.

9. A doctor. Nice! I’m sure you have lots of time til then, which is good for dealing with everyday stuff. Like dentention. 😛 What other kinds of detention would you rather have? XD cause writing the same thing is tiring… Organizing Mrs. Cane’s desk. I peeked back there once and wow, it’s a wreck. I love organizing and I don’t know how she works in that kind of condition.

10. *gasp* Organizing a desk? That’s really hardcore man. You couldn’t pay me to clean my own desk, 😛 well, we have just one more question now. If you could say something so that everyone in the world would know, what would it be? Never give up hope. You are loved. I probably wouldn’t have made it without hope. And so many people believe that they are not loved, when it’s not true. You will never be alone.

If you survived almost the way to the end, good on ya! As your reward, you get to sign up for the giveaway (last day folks!),  get the rest of the schedule, and get the book links!

Blogger Box Tour! An Awesome New Business + An Interview With Clara

bloggerbox-confetti-resized

Hello there great people of the internet, and happy Sunday! I’m popping back from NaNoWriMo to finish some bloggerly things, including writing this post. So.

Now, as I’m sure most of you already know, there’s a wonderful blogger named Clara, and she blogs at Clara and Co. Which you should really check out, by the way. 😉

I first met Clara back in March, when I was starting out and needed a cool graphic, which Clara had on hand XD. But enough of my rambling. Clara’s started The Blogger Box, a new business for bloggers, newbies and veterans alike.

I hope you enjoy this brand new SNEAK PEEK of what you're going to find inside of the very first Blogger Box! 👀 All of the items have a specific purpose, each with the end goal of inspiring bloggers to create the best content that they possibly can. 👌
And, as part of the Blogger Box Tour, I’m going to be interviewing Clara, the maker of the Blogger Box. So let’s get started, shall we?
Me: Bold
Clara: Normal
                                                   ****************************
So, how long have you been blogging, and what inspired you to blog in the first place?
I’ve been blogging for almost five years! I honestly can’t believe it’s been that long. What first inspired me to blog were the American Girl Doll websites that I read with my sisters. I don’t post about dolls anymore, but they were what originally got me into blogging.
In your off screen time, what do you enjoy doing most?
I love reading good books, writing stories, playing with my dog Maude, composing letters to my pen pals, and taking pictures. 🙂
I’ve heard of how you took the concept of subscription boxes and tweaked that for bloggers, which I think is really awesome! But what made you take it from concept to an actual reality, and started this exciting new business?
Thank you! I’ve wanted to start my own business for years, but most of the ideas that I’ve had never seemed like something I could turn into reality. When I came up with the idea for The Blogger Box, it was the first business idea I’d had that really felt attainable, so I went for it!
Did you know that every Blogger Box will feature tips and inspiration from an actual blogger? Inside of each box, you'll find a card featuring ideas and advice from the owner of an up-and-coming blog. I'm so excited to announce that @afarmgal is going to be the first blogger featured in The Blogger Box! Allison's lifestyle blog, A Farm Girl's Life, focuses on topics such as photography, art, life on the farm, and much more. Allison has been blogging for several years, has more than 4,500 followers, and is a wonderful influence in the blogging community. Inside of the first box, you'll find five exclusive tips about Allison's blogging process and style that will help you grow your own blog and create authentic, original content. 👌

Comment below to share which bloggers YOU would love to see in The Blogger Box! ⬇

What is your hope for the boxes, and for those who receive them?
My hope is that these boxes will be an inspiration to bloggers everywhere! Blogging should be fun and relaxing, not a source of stress, and I hope that these boxes will help to make it just that. 😀
If I was a relative or friend of a blogger, and I thought they could use some inspiration, could I order a box in their name? And would everything in the box- that would be a surprise?
Yes, you certainly could! When you’re checking out from The Blogger Box website, you can mention that the box is a gift in the “order notes” section and I’ll be glad to mail it in a friend’s name.
You mentioned the boxes will be seasonal, which sounds so fascinating! I was wondering, will there also be boxes themed for certain kinds of bloggers? Like lifestyle, photography, writing, stuffie/doll bloggers?
At the moment, there will be a single box designed to appeal to as many different types of bloggers as possible. However, this business is just starting out, so I may definitely consider more “themed” boxes in the future!
And what so far has been the hardest- and funnest (that’s not a word but oh well :P)- parts of setting up shop?
Hmm… I would say the hardest part was finding and curating all of the items! It’s difficult to find the best prices on things and make sure that you’re getting a good deal. The most fun I’ve had is probably while designing the website – I love graphic design, and so that’s probably been my favorite part of the process so far.
In your years as a blogger, what’s something you can’t ever forget from your experience? Something memorable, like that’s the reason you keep going?
I absolutely love how many new people I’ve been able to meet through blogging, and they are undoubtedly the #1 reason that I continue to blog. I love being able to share my thoughts and creations with my fellow bloggers and get their advice and feedback, and being able to do the same for them. The blogging community really is an amazing place!
What most important piece of advice would you pass down to the new bloggers starting out for the very first time, who haven’t met a single soul on the blogsphere?
Go make some friends!! Comment on any blog that you find interesting. Introduce yourself and ask some questions about the other person to get the conversation going. Friends are what make blogging fun and rewarding, and your blogging experience won’t be the same without them!
Definitely! Thanks for your time, Clara! 😀
Thanks for interviewing me, Jo! I had so much fun answering your questions! 🙂
                                                        ******************************
Interested? I sure hope so! Want one of those boxes? Well, you can win one through this giveaway on Clara & Co! Which you have to go to to enter. *smug grin* Or, if you have Instagram, follow the Blogger Box and enter there.

A Wittle Conversation With Ivy From Beyond Her Calling!

Hi!

In case you’re wondering, this is NOT Jo, which you could probably tell straight away, couldn’t you? Jo’s busy with the top secret project that she’s really giddy about.. anyway, she called me, Gale Darn, back here for a very important reason: Kellyn Roth has a new book out! 😀 And because TL&HD loves books, we signed up! 😊

Beyond Her Calling Blurb:

At twenty, Ivy Knight feels as if she hasn’t accomplished anything of worth. Her life stretches on before her, empty and pointless. Though her faith in God and her mental abilities have been strengthened, she still doubts herself. Does God have a purpose for a socially awkward, often confused and frightened young woman?

Jordy McAllen has just returned to Scotland after his education in London. Though he has accomplished a lot for a farm lad such as himself, he fears that what everyone has always said about him may be true: he won’t really make a good doctor. Determined to prove himself, Jordy snatches up the opportunity to become the doctor in the village of Keefmore near his parents’ farm.

Helping Jordy with his work at Keefmore seems like the perfect opportunity for Ivy. Still, she doubts herself. Is there a purpose to Ivy’s life?

Ooh, this sounds really fascinating! And to make it even better, here’s the author’s bio!

Author Bio

Kellyn Roth lives on an Eastern Oregon ranch with her parents, little brothers, border collies, cats, and a few dozen cows and chickens. Always a lover of a good story, and especially of telling one, she’s been writing since she was seven and published her first novel at fourteen. Now a homeschool grad, she divides her time between penning her next Christian historical novel, creating professionally silly articles at kellynroth.blog, and her actual life. Actual life plays second fiddle sometimes, though.

Find out more on her website: https://kellynrothauthor.com/

Ahh, this just makes me wanna read more! Well, anyway, as the title shows, I got to meet up with the Ivy Knight and talk to her a little with my sister MJ!
I’m in bold,
MJ’s in bold italics,
And Ivy’s in normal.
*************
-Hi there! First off, how are you doing this lovely day?
Oh, absolutely lovely! I’m so glad to be here!
-Okay, great! We are, too! 😀
So, what’s life like in Scotland? Would you ever want to live somewhere else for a change?
Well, normally I live in England, so Scotland is a change for me! But I’m glad of it this time, even though I normally like to stay home. So yes, it’s nice living “somewhere else” for a change!
That’s so awesome! Moving out is so.. exhilarating, really. Has anything happened since you began wondering about your life to make you change your thoughts?
Yes! I went to Scotland. It’s been quite an experience! Of course, my sister Alice leaving for her new home (she’s married now) was the thing that made me want something more.
– How does working with Jordy go? Is it exciting, thrilling?
It’s not terribly exciting or thrilling, but it can be scary! I hate the sight of blood, and I hate when people are in pain, and it’s frightening that so many people are sick or hurt.
But I think it goes well! I like it, at least. I don’t know how helpful I am, though. I’m not very experienced.
-What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Oh, reading! I love books. They take you away from the world – oftentimes into a much nicer, more pleasant one! I think everyone should read. It’s one of the best things in the world! It teaches you about people, it gives you empathy and understanding, it helps you learn … and it’s fun!
– Exactly, reading books is like going to another world! I can’t wait to read yours. 😀
In the blurb, it mentions you have doubts. When you struggle with doubts about life in general, where do you turn to?
It used to be that I’d mostly turn to my mother or Alice (my twin sister). But of course Mother and Alice won’t always be there for me. But you know who will be there for me? God! So I’ve got to learn to turn to Him.
-*nods*I gotta learn that too. Ooh, anyway, I gotta know something. Aren’t brothers the most annoying things ever thought of???
What? No! I love my brothers.
Well … granted, they can be a little frustrating sometimes … but I still love them!
That was so fun! Thanks Ivy for the chat! Although YOUR brother must be awesome. MY brothers are annoying! 😛
Please ignore my sister Ivy. It was a pleasure to have you!
Hmph. Oh, and don’t forget, there’s a giveaway going on right now!
Plus, the Goodreads and Amazon links are here if you wanna check it out.
