For The Rare Who Care, A Tiny Update (with pictures) (I heard those make these kinda things more interesting)

DSC_0211 (2)

Alright, let’s see how far I’l go before the internet goes. This should be fun.

*sighs*

I kid you not, I spent, legit 30 seconds trying to plug in my USB. 30. seconds. Hello from the land of writing, adrenaline, and algebra. I’m tired, it’s nice to meet you.

“Surprisingly, all of these teachers-  from Algebra (a very intense and scary kind of algebra) to English, to Being And Knowing In The Digital Age (something I can’t believe needs to be a class since memes exist and I am very knowledgeable in such matters) follow a pattern.”- The A’s & B’s of Normal

The past 22 days have been forever, and yet, no time at all- and for some reason, I deem those experiences worth sharing. Guess misery loves company. A wonder I don’t take to my blog more often then not. XD That’s all I’ll say on the nonexistent topic of this blog, which, as you all know, is dead! For now. I’m active on certain sites and notsomuch on.. well.. this one. With good reason. It’s winning week of NaNoWriMo, you guys.

DSC_0258

I’m glad to say that I’ve learned a lot from each NaNoWriMo over the events, and this one has taught me a TON. Mostly cool things, like conserving mental energy (i.e. late night stuff) (i.e this post technically should not be written at this time) (but I had a dash of inspiration so I figured why not), that wordsprints are the best thing to exist since laptops, the importance of cultural appreciation, hOw tO wRiTe dIaLoGuE, and to not give up on my story, cause I’m just going through that “it’s utter junk” stage. Which is exactly what happened to my other stories, hah, fancy that?

“But she wasn’t really.”  I tell Dad.

“No, no she wasn’t.”

“She just didn’t understand.”
“Sadly, no.”

“Not a lot of people understand.”

Difference between those and this is now I have a number of people who care (almost unhealthily) and one of them could literally kill me for not writing. It’s very good encouragement, I’m telling you. I’m almost at 50k!

See? That right there, folks, is your local insane photographer/writer/weirdo in a gif. How accurate. But pretend that’s a glass of iced tea, we’re a family friendly blog over here.

DSC_0257

Also, I’m just really, really glad it’s spring because LOOK AT THAT BEAUTY OVER THERE. For once I’m not being frozen to death- I can sit and write outside in God’s beautiful creation, the way it’s meant to be enjoyed. With the sky and the sun and the clouds and it’s a sometimes beautiful world we live in, as messed up it mostly tends to be.

“Oh. That’s what they mean when they say they’ve had “squirrel” moments. I see how it is.

But then, who’s they and why did they make the rules to say that? Are they the same people who defined normal?

Cause if they did they did a lousy job.”

Honestly, sticky your head outta the window. Jack Kelly wasn’t kidding about the fresh air, Santa Fe or no Santa Fe.

DSC_0256

Lately I’ve started seriously thinking about the future, and more importantly, how am I growing as a Christian and as a person and..

I’m kinda scared. Still. There’s a lot of things coming that I’m not sure of, and a gazillion things I’m guessing I’ll probably never see coming. And then the hopeless task of making choices. That’s another thing on my mind.

But that’s to be expected, is it not?

“And I did. Dun dun dun! I swear, the way things go in my world, maybe I’m just another character in someone’s story, things just happen. Like wow. I should write this down and put it into a book.

Oh wait.”

Some choices could be fun- like publishing. Maybe. Picking electives. Hopefully. And then others, well, they’ll keep me on my toes.

The future is a lot of things. Maybe what I need the most is to keep reminding myself Who’s in charge of the future.

DSC_0243

I think that’s it ladies and gents.

Sorry for not being more active. But then also not because otherwise I’d never have gotten far on my wordcount. xD And then you wouldn’t have gotten these snippets which I probably shouldn’t have spoiled! 😀

NaNo ends this week. Endgame comes out on Friday. We got this.  Happy Monday and to all a good morning!

In Which I Write A Blog Post In My Journal (Or a journal entry on my blog…)

DSC_0175

Deery,

I has redeemed myself. And it is quite the nice feeling to redeem yourself, lemme tell ya.

Mom cut back my curfew to 9 pm, deery. 9. Stinking. PM. WHY. 😥 she says it’s to make sure my mind is properly rested, but I think it’s unfair, I do.

DSC_0154

Although, if I’m gonna be completely honest, *whispers* I’m kinda grateful that I have a curfew? ‘Cause now I am forced to prioritize and pick what’s really important and that’s a good thing. So curfew doesn’t really stink. I guess. It’s cool for the most part.

DSC_0148

I got to video chat J and R this afternoon, so that was really, totally 110 percently,  a TON of fun. I wuv these weirdos a lot. We were *supposed* to be doing Bible study, but we ended up fangirling– personing over His Story the musical. We could literally talk for forever and there was would be no way on earth we could stop coming up with things to talk about. But we had to stop, of course. Because I had (have, still) a book to finish.

_Um....._ The problem doesn't seem that hard, just move that number here and put this here-- In my head, the numbers are animated and Larry the Cucumber is narrating how to solve the equation. But in real life, I'm a.png

Anyway, J’s nagging cough cough death threats actually paid off. I wrote 4k today. 4k!!! That’s the most I’ve ever written. EVER. How awesome is that? 4 more k to go, heh, but I got this. God’s got me. It’s not over til it’s over. 😀

DSC_0158

Mom heard some of the songs I was playing and asked if I could play them at dinner time. So I did. Guess what? Dad now likes His Story the musical. HEHEHEHEEHEHE. HEH. 🙂

I’m kinda scared that at the end of all this, something bad will happen, but like I told J, I just gotta keep trusting God. Where is He gonna take me? I don’t know.

DSC_0151

And I can’t wait.

In Which I Get To Talk About My Novel

DSC_0175

Spotify playing “If I Could Tell Her”.  Check.

Four scoops of Dutch chocolate ice cream. Check.

An evening of hanging out with the best people in the planet despite having been with them in person for so long a time it’s an injustice. Check.

No writing. Check.

April Camp NaNo is going wonderfully. And I mean that, when you compare it to last year, when  only started seriously writing three days before Camp ended, not too bad! I think. 😀

Just Come Home is on hold for now, which is great, ’cause I get to talk about my new WIP, which you definitely can’t copy or steal because I will find you. And I will exact a heavy revenge.

Introducing my WIP, under the working title of….

The A’s & B’s of Normal!

*slow claps* *very fake claps*

The A’s And B’s Of Normal
not the final cover so don’t get any ideas

But, uh, what on earth is The A’s & B’s of Normal?

Thus the brief description. (I have a description! An actual description! BEHOLD!)

Synopsis

Ricky Kisame isn’t your normal 13 girl- but she really means that when she says it. She has an attention span the size of a gnat and an unidentified adverse reaction to classrooms and anything remotely resembling four walls enclosed and with no windows. Add that to her perpetual hyper-excited nonstop energy and talkative self, brothers that have their own quirks and not-normal selves, parents who are practical geniuses and believe the best in their kids, her homeschooled brain, and the fact that brain can answer Algebra 2 questions and college level stuff in all the ways nobody expects, and you have the makings of an almost genius.

Oh, did Ricky mention she has ADD? She can’t concentrate if her life depended on it.

But snap, if she isn’t gonna try!

The Story Behind The Story

If you don’t know, April is not only the month of pranks, the first Camp NaNo, and the month of the earth warming and changing from snow to grass in two seconds flat. It’s also Autism Awareness month. (More on this in another post… maybe. :P) At the time this story was created though? I didn’t know that.

I’m hyperactive. That goes for my head and my mind and my tongue and my arms and all of me. Fidgeting in my seat is essential to being able to concentrate, and a million tabs in my brain are open 100% of the time, and at least 75 are blasting music that I can’t shut down. Writing this post took me forever because I literally pushed aside my laptop to walk back and forth a couple dozen times.

And apparently, that isn’t normal.

But that’s okay.

If you know my brother Jacob, you’d know he’s the sweetest, kindest, selfless, quiet guy anywhere, and when he smiles you can’t help but smile too. You’d also know that he doesn’t talk much, is on the timid side, and when other kids his age are off driving and getting jobs and being independent (TM), Jacob’s still trying to figure out freshman year.

But that’s okay.

My other brother may have a little hard time interacting with people, but he can look at a computer and see new things to figure out and break and put together and technical stuff is right up his alley, even if asking someone how their weekend was is a tinge harder.

But that’s okay.

They have a name for people like us. Neurodivergents. Basically, some people’s brains are different from other people’s brains. It’s a pretty simple (and fancy sounding) definition, huh?

There’s just a slight problem.

And that is that people tend to look at the label and forget the thing labelled is not a thing.

It’s a person. And that person isn’t some case subject thing, another number in the statistic of people who think differently. That person is just another kid with hopes and dreams and ideas and thoughts and God made them. God made everyone equal, but equal never meant the same. Every mind is different. And that’s okay.

And… I mean.. y’know.. people don’t really get that? There’s a TON of stuff on autism and dyslexia and ADD and ADHD, but not very much on the people who have all of these differences.

So in a way, I guess, The A’s & B’s of Normal is an attempt to say one thing:

God made you special, and He loves you just the way you are.

Trust me to ramble on for 50k or less on just one thing. 😉 Say hi to Ricky, you guys!

Ricky's Mood board

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky. She is crazy. And that’s probably why I love her so.

It’s been a ton of fun to get into Ricky’s head and writing out her thoughts. She’s a riot in the funniest ways possible, and I hope I do her justice. 🙂  Along with this crazy are Lute, Natey, and Jose Kisame, and the 4 of them wreck havoc in their world.

Well, Ricky does plenty of that on her own, but the guys help some.

Right now she’s stumped, as you would be, at a rather long test. I got some work to do.

snippet

Will this be a flop? Probably? Will I mess up a lot? Guaranteed. But is it worth the research and time spent to learn even more about this so called “disorders” and what they really are?

I think so.

Is it worth getting into someone’s severely disorganized head and writing my own off? To get into a dozen different characters and settings I will never get to step foot in?

Yes.

How To Have An Idea– A Powerpoint Presentation 2019 Edition

DSC_0183

**as we all know by the word Powerpoint, I mean memes and gifs**

I’m back from the land of perpetual writing, where virtual cabins play the craziest pranks (no, I’m serious *glares at Enni*) and every day is another debate of “one more YouTube video” and wordsprints. Tis wonderful. 😀 But I poke back onto here to sweeten up your Friday with the (very) novel idea of How To Have An Idea!

And also I might/might not talk about my novel. O_O

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3B

Step 1. Breathe.

This is quite simple to do. Open your mouth and swallow air. It takes some practice but in time, it should gradually get easier over time. Note: Do not try to breathe in Colorado. Altitude differences are horrendous. *nods*

Step 2. Decide to do something really crazy and insane and hard.

Of course, you know what I’m talking about.

Image result for nanowrimo gif

This also applies to everything you decide to do that pushes you out of your comfort zone (home), something of your own volition that nobody asked you to do and everyone thinks your insane. Thought of something? Wonderful! Now do it! My personal favorites are the ideas that reach out to anyone other than yourself,  such as*gasp* maybe helping out at the library suggesting books, researching an ailment for a friend and writing something in their honor. You get the idea. Once you commit to something crazy, you can move on to step three.

Step 3. Panic.

Image result for panic gif star wars

Panicking is one of the best things you can do in a situation like this. Simply put, wave your arms in the air and flail like a mad man. Tis best to let this happen naturally, such as when you’re working on a project 10 minutes before  the deadline, cheering on a sports team, having a YouTube video export right as your computer shuts down, or in the process of tuning your violin and having the strings pop open.

Step 4. Try to walk around to clear your head.

Image result for bucky and sam running gif

While you’re at it, go fight some of your best friends because one of them accidentally invented an evil robot that tried to destroy the world and now the world wants you on time out right as your best best friend came back from being brainwashed not to mention your almost girl died due to mysterious causes RIP Peggy and her niece just handed your shield back which give you a reason to fight because honestly the 21st century (Fox) is really confusing. (OOPS. SPOILERS.) If that doesn’t clear your head, I recommend going to space and fighting a giant purple raisin. That will definitely clear your head. (Note: if you do this, don’t bring a broom.)

Jogging is good too.

Step 5. Scroll around on Pinterest in the wee hours of the night, burning phone battery and time.

Related image

If it’s an idea you’re after, there is no better way to get/not get/definitely not get then on the motherload of pictures. Pinterest. Memes are a very good way to start, then work your way into the fandoms. 😀 Warning, this will keep you up all night, so continue with step 6.

Step 6. Stay snack-drated.

Image result for snack gifs

The importance of this is one I cannot stress often enough. It’s a must to have plenty of snacks to accompany your brainstorming aka Pinterest meme hunts aka the free and non-moving equivalent in regards to time wasting as Netflix. Some good snacks involve much sugar and nothing too healthy, although vegetable smoothies are very good as well. That’s the exception but not the example. I highly recommend French fries/popcorn/marshmellows.

Step 7. Join a support group to rant– er, discuss your idea empty life.

While a real life, actually have to waste gas to drive to one, breathing, working, functioning support group is encouraged, to find one online is just as effective and highly suggested for those couch potatoes reading this right now. Unless you want to form a real life couch potato support group. Then come over and we can start in my mom’s living room. Bring potatoes.

Step 8. Try free writing your thoughts to make sure your brain is utterly and truly empty.

Image result for typing gif

In both the literal and satirical sense (but especially in the latter) free writing helps remove whatever cobwebs your brain has spun in boredom. And memes from Step 5. I suggest writing nonstop for 25 minutes, then looking to see if in the shreds of sanity, there is something at least halfway acceptable to the constricts of society.

Step 9. Read a couple books in the hopes of sparking a burnt out fuse to write your own.

Image result for reading gif

Yes, grab those books that weigh a brick from the kids’ fiction shelf. Then the same with YA. PERFECT! Now go shut yourself up and read. Preferably alone. With nobody to wonder why you’re sobbing as ideas fail to fill your head, but emotions run rampant. Perfect. You’ll get an idea in no time.

Step 10. Do absolutely nothing.

Image result for staring blankly at the wall gif

I feel like this is self explanatory. But see, to do nothing, do nothing. Like. Nothing. It is not hard to do nothing. So do nothing. It’s best to do nothing by not doing something, as time will tell. In the words of a bear of very big heart, “doing nothing leads to the best something”. And BEHOLD! An idea!

Follow these steps in the right order and you shall be sure to have an idea.

(and because I’m nice here’s a snippie of said idea. :D) Happy Friday!

_Lute snickers, but it’s such an awkward snicker that’s a mix between weird and adorable. Like a puppy tripping on a rock. Or a duck tripping. Ducks are adorable, just like that meme from- What were we talking about_

This Is The Moment You’ve Waited For (April’s HEREEEEEEEEEE!)

DSC_0151

Mm, I made two references to two pretty great musicals. 😀 Y’all should be proud a me. But guess what guys? It’s a new month- and it’s a new camp NaNoWriMo *cheers lustily* And I should also mention that pranks are present, roll your eyes and deal with it. (Like I don’t have one myself, eheh.) Quicky recap because those are fun, and we’ll get on with this. XD

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

March was hard. Goodbye March. But some of the greatest stuff happened that I’m grateful for.

-My family saw Captain Marvel. Admittedly, it wasn’t the greatest- but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great movie! Really enjoyed it. 😀

-I wrote for my life even though it wasn’t NaNo, just to see if I could. 15k in 3 days!! 😀 That’s a record. I’m sure at least a quarter is junk, but I did it. I actually genuinely did it.

-I’ll be honest, a ton happened that I wish didn’t. A lot of times I just wanted to curl up into a ball and hop into the Pacific Ocean and drown away. Thank you to the friends who convinced me otherwise. (And for the memes. You know who you are. :P)

-us Audiosmithers released one of my favorite dramas. ❤

-I discovered Newsies (I think this one is obvious, you guys.)

-And Hamilton (that’s another post in itself)

-and the sweetest movie that ever was

my first reaction

-Spring came before Winter crashed right back onto the scene so that was rather nice

DSC_0157

-Crushed Algebra (and in return, got crushed myself)

-late nights became my best friends

-as were snickers bites

-I may or may not have done something to my blog. I think I should fix it, but ah.

-Arya Stark is surprisingly like one of my characters, and now I’m having an existential crisis trying to figure out if GoT stole from me, or I stole from GoT O_O

-ended up with some rather interesting scenes and plotted for my new novel at church. On notebook paper. In smudged writing. For about 25 minutes. 🙂

March, you marched on. Good for you.

Favorite Song

Ben Rector is a master of using common words to write priceless gems, and Brand New was probably one of his bests. (They’re all good though. XD) Up there with this is Winners Don’t Quit by Owl City, and Little Things by Maddie Poppe. 🙂

Favorite Book

Love to EveryoneAlso known as Love To Everyone, this book hit me right in the feels as I was reading it. Clarry is such a well written character, and the setting- the setting is just so real. And it’s sad. And heartbreaking. And just- ahh what do you say about a book that’s so good you can’t just say it?? *dies*

Favorite Quote

I WILL BREAK OUT INTO NEWSIES SONGS! BE PREPARED!

This.

Rend Collective - “Counting every blessing”

And this.

Listen to the song "Joy" by Rend Collective. Fits this quite perfectly

And most importantly this.

So all that to say,

LET’S GO, APRIL.

Oh. That prank.

It’s actually not a prank.

It’s a parody. A NaNoWriMo parody.

Enjoy!

(yes, it’s cringey and bad and my voice sounds terrible but I had a ton of fun pretending to be a Broadway singer and altering the lyrics so please laugh as much as you want and I hope you enjoy 😀 )

Hopes, Dreams, and Unrealistic Aspirations

WARNING LONG POST AHEAD PROCEED AT OWN CAUTION

Hi again, lovely people of the internet!

By the time you read this (since I was waay too verbose last time) it’ll be January. 1. 2019.

*screams*

“I wasn’t prepared for this. We can’t let them know anything.”- Kira

Truer words have never been spoken, Kira. But I *am* letting you know some things… not quite sure why.

Ohhh, right! Because I thought it would be a good idea! *facesmacks* It doesn’t seem too bad right now, so… uh…here goes. 🙂

2019 Goals

Life Goals

DSC_0005

  • Get a job. Somehow, someway, I’d really really like to work and save money for even more future stuff- if that’s what God wants. But even not, doing some thing that’s a little more serious than a fandom. 😛
  • Wake up early and get stuff DONE. For Christmas break, my gift to myself was slacking off on everything. Including important, essential things like devotions. And I don’t want to admit that, but I have to. Because starting now, I want to change that, and start being productive.
DSC_0023
With my feet propped up, a’course!
  • Read the whole New Testament and get into Bible Bee’s Summer Study. Last year (which feels like yesterday, probably because it was) I was so blessed by digging deeper into God’s word, and I don’t think I can explain that. It’s so awesome to study the Bible not because anyone says you have to, but because you want to. So I’m looking forward to this!
  • School. Crush it. Defeat the boss villain, move to next level. ‘Nuff said. Oh, and start seriously learning French. And look at ops around.
  • Train.  And by train I mean exercise. Because I’d love to get stronger in that area.
  • Learn as many life skills as I can at this age. They’re life skills. I’ll need them. Some of em are fun!
  • Go to a buskerfest. And get a buskering permit. I doubt I’ll crush this goal, but it won’t be for lack of trying. *grabs hammer*
  • Get offscreen for more than I am on. As much as I love Pinterest, I won’t let it take away time I could use to use other worthy things. Besides, I don’t want to be that kid that never sticks her head out to see the sky.
  • Develop my photography. Compared to my first picture here, I’d glad to say that I’ve grown a tad in the mastery of the lens. But I have a long way to go. So I’d really like to learn to use manual. XD
  • MORE ANDREW PETERSON MUSIC YES BOIII

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3B

Wordy Goals

  • read 100 books. I’m really, really looking forward to this! And I’m counting books of the Bible so technically, I’ve already read four of the hundred I have to read! 😀 But yup, 100 books. Some of which may include War and Peace (HA!) some YA, and alphas. I really love the alpha part XD
  • finish, edit and rewrite Just Come Home. Ahhh, my wittle baby WIP is a year old already! *sighs* It’s gonna take some work, but I’m so doing this. You can’t stop me. It’s not your funeral, after all.
  • look into publishing. O_O WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT DID I SAY WHAT. I hve no clue where to start, I mean, it’s almost 100% sure I’m self-publishing, because honestly, who would take that? But again, if this doesn’t happen, it won’t be because I didn’t try!
  • write at least 500 words a day. I wish I could be meta and go for 1k1day, but I need to LIVE XD so I’m gonna set a reasonable amount for myself. I don’t know what I’ll write, but I’m looking forward to it! (fanfic, short stories, and poems, most likely *cough cough*) (maybe a novel or two) (I haven’t forgotten you Mirages)
  • actually respond to pen pals.
  • join NaNo. Crush NaNo. Die in NaNo.
  • Fill up my old notebooks. I have a bunch of old, good notebooks that wouldn’t be used. But I’m gonna take them. And write. Probably drek like on this blog. But it’ll be better than mindlessly scrolling through the web, right?
  • write in this lovely!

DSC_0020

The cover the cover da coverrrrr yay!

I can’t wait to write in it!

Blogging Goals

DSC_0019

“Awwww yay!” you cry. “The actually fun stuff!”

Ha. Well, what do we have here…

  • have a blogsiversary.  >:) *laughs evilly* I’ve been blogging for practically a whole year, how?? But I know what I’m doing to “celebrate”. And it will be fun. 😉
  • start writing quality posts. I’m the lord of the random, and everything on this blog and this blog itself, is a result of that. So I wanna up the ante and make it a tad more purposeful.
  • enter a few contests and challenges. Like BIBPC. Ohhh and speaking of, Megan, I GET TEN EXTRA POINTS BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH Because this is my picture for Category 4!

Jo-Team Bear- Category 4

I couldn’t change the file name.. but THAT IS A DONKEY. And I’ve saved that just for you since March! 😛 HA! HA! HA! *is so happy right now*

Ahem. Moving on.

  • Design some blogs. If you’re interested, I put up a Services page, so if you want to redesign your blog or need a new button, header, signoff, widgets, or whatever, I’d love to work with ya! And Rebekah’s helping me out too, so I won’t mess anything up! 🙂
  • Keep things running at Welcome To Odyssey. As you know, AIO is my fandom and my fandom is AIO, so I love ranting about everything under the sun that even remotely has something to do with AIO, so I’m looking forward to this!
  • figure out my YT channel. It’s pathetic.

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3BRandom Fun Goals (we’re almost over, hang in there :P)

DSC_0022

  • record more songs and make more audio dramas as part of the Audiosmiths. As bad as my voice is, I love singing.. and I love acting, so win-win! XD
  • beat someone, ANYONE, at checkers! My good friend Denise gave me this awesome set for my birthday, and then proceeded to beat me at checkers.

DSC_0021

WAH.  But ahem. Learning, and playing more offscreen games in general is a plus I’m looking forward to. 🙂

  • go outside more.
  • dream.
  • try to keep a thankfulness journal.
  • eat bacon.
  • make someone smile.

DSC_0018

Yesterday, I got this framed from a friend.

And I think that’s gonna be my… quote of the year, or whatever.

Call to Me and I will answer you. And show you great and mighty things which you do not know. -Jeremiah 33:3

From the looks of everything, I have it all under control (HA!) But the truth is, I don’t know just what’s going to happen. But God does.

I’m looking forward to the great and might things He has for me, and until then, I’m gonna trust Him and keep driving this hard drive. It has some awesome views along the way.

May the roads be as bumpy as you can handle, that you’ll find rest, and you’ll be fueled up for a hard- but joyful drive. 🙂

November Is Over

Mercy, dreadful apparition! Don’t you go spreading lies, it’s not December yet. New year’s Day was yesterday, you big scary ghost called Time!

Oh.

Heh. Yeah, sorry, I’ll just go take that back. My bad.

DSC_0008
Bokeh. Wow. So original .

Someone start telling time to slow down please. I can’t believe it’s already December. Also known as the last month of the year. The year’s almost over people. HOW.

I’ll be honest, November had its rough times, but it also had its good times. I guess that’s the way life works sometimes.

First of all, NaNoWriMo is over for the year. Say what!? But, yes, it’s indeed over. And I’m surprised. I have no clue how I wasn’t as stressed out and less writer’s blocked as in July, and still wrote 14 posts on here and 2 on Welcome to Odyssey (which I will return to rant abut stuff, don’t you worry about that 😉 ) and this wordcount was higher than my last one. I learned some things too. Like it’s better to set a daily wordcount and rest every day; switch spots, if you can, as often as possible so you don’t get bored; listen to the Captain America Winter Soldier soundtracks because they get your heart pumping; keep going; severely limit Pinterest to a half hour a week; and get equal amounts of sleep and caffeine; and that I give terrible advice.

That being said. Did I win?

DSC_0002

*starts to scream in 20 different languages* I can’t believe.

I hit my original goal of 30k without killing myself.

I’m still in semi shock, because, as you can see..

DSC_0007

I finished a day early. Which is insane. I mean it did cost me my sanity, my supply of dark chocolate, a test, and watching all of Home Improvement, but I did it!

I’m so, so grateful.

Plus, Just Come Home is well on its way to being finished. And I am excited/scared to edit it. So yeah, that’s been a huge highlight.

Let’s see, what else happened?

-Y’all, I was watching a Toy Story Christmas (Time Forgot Something) short and I died. The themes you guys, the themes, the plot, the characters!! LIKE THAT IS HOW YOU DO A STORY PEOPLE! And that’s only a short! So that was pretty inspiring, and I kinda wanna hike over to Pixar and ask if they need a vertically challenged intern.

-I wrote for my life and contemplated drinking coffee

-I re-read this awesome book and I’m dying, my childhood is gone

DSC_0005

-I WON NANOWRIMO AHHHHHHHH! And then I stayed up all night celebrating by reading books and taking late night pictures in manual. MANUAL.

-Now that it’s December, I had the crazy idea of a kind of advent calendar by covering 25 Christmas Carols and then posting them for you lovely people to hear how horrible I am. Thing is though, 1. is this a good idea, and 2. I know lots of us don’t celebrate Christmas for reasons that are really deep and good, so would you guys be okay with that?

-I may or may not have considered changing the URL of this blog. *gasps* I’d still keep the title, but maybe change the URL to drivingtheharddrive. But I’m too busy and tired and lazy to make a decision, because I like how things are now, and cause that makes me sound all brave and tough… and I’m not. XD

-Spent late hours talking to awesome people and laughing my head off and whacking it on the couch

-Alpha read some amazing books and read some for review (which I promise will come out soon. Later. Eventually.)

-walked out in a 12 am snowfall when things weren’t too good and just felt better being in the cold

-waited in vain for the Avenger 4 trailer, and I’m starting to think it’ll never come out

-wrote cards and am about to mail ’em off to lovely people

-baked brownies when I was frustrated at life and somehow that helped

DSC_0011
Weird? yes. I’m not sure why I took this picture. XD

-listened to Adventures In Odyssey and have more headcanons than I have actual canon

-skated and had a blast

-somehow cleared up most of my homework

DSC_0013

-enjoyed writing on fancy stationary

-died in class (I fell asleep in both History and Science like once each)

-got used to mayo on ham and cheese sandwiches

-worked on secret project

-also at the same time practicing my voice 😛

-wrote fanfic! (not sharing. sorry. XD)

DSC_0012

-above is a picture of a stuffed penguin. I have no idea why he’s here or what for.

-basically, enjoyed November as much as I could!

DSC_0006

And amazingly, that’s not all that happened.

Last Saturday, (also known as the day before the wreck that is Black Friday shopping) I got a new charger, because my old one wasn’t working.

And a new laptop.

I got a new laptop.

That’s the part that makes me excited.

Apparently, I use my parents’ laptop too much, and they don’t want me breaking it any time soon. Not sure where they made the conclusion that I should have my own laptop, but they did and I’m so grateful. “It’s so you can develop your writing,” Mom told me. And this is from people who don’t read fiction.

DSC_0010

It’s already gotten me a tom of projects done, and it’s awesome.

And I think that’s the chunk of all that happened. 🙂

Playing Favorites (Cause Why Not)

And to end up this post, here’s a bunch of the things that kept me alive this past month. XD

Favorite Book

Beautiful Blue World by Suzanne LaFleur — Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

This. book. *dies* It’s so awesome, so sweet, and so sad!

And I got nothing else to say 😛

Favorite Song

I love Prince Of Egypt, and I will always, always love listening to this song.

Favorite Quote

One of my favorite musicians: Andrew Peterson. DeAnne, sometimes I wonder if we were twins some how separated at birth.

Andrew Peterson, to understate, is awesome.

What he says is awesome.

There ya go.

So until next time, people. 🙂 I’ll be seeing ya.

What My Character’s Theme Songs Would Be If They Had One

IMG_2287

Hey, I’ve been a good little writer bean for five days! I’m sure I’m allowed to blog about my charries (and go on YouTube while I’m at it 😉 ) Hewwo everyone!

So as NaNo has progressed, I’ve built a pretty good playlist of songs. And I discovered I write my characters best when I’m playing songs that are just… them. I dunno how to explain it. But I figured I’d share the songs cause they’re pretty good. 🙂

Here goes!

Gale Darn, Photograph by Ed Sheeran

This is Gale for so many reasons it’s not funny. First the whole thing is about photographs, which is Gale’s second nature. She loves going back to old times and remembering everything that happened. And she’s been waiting for her dad to come home. Like for a while now. A long while.

Laura Darn, Tightrope from The Greatest Showman

(Okay, I tried to find a video without images so don’t blame me! :P)

Tightrope really represents Laura, who’s.. y’know, doing her best to keep up and literally trusting Joshua with her life. Now unlike Charity Barnum, she would never have to worry about losing her husband to someone else. What she does worry about? Losing him to the war. Which is hard when he’s in it. But, as the song goes, she’d follow him into the great unknown. Cause that’s who she is. And also cause she’s awesome. 🙂

Kate Smith, Better When I’m Dancing by Meghan Trainor

For all Kate’s sarcasm and witty comments, she’s a really laidback, fun-loving kinda gal. More often than not, you’ll see her serving up orders at Frank’s Diner bobbing her head, or tapping her feet, though have mercy on the poor person who dared to comment on it. Kate is one of those, “looks like they could kill you, actually could kill you but is a cinnamon roll while they’re at it.” Which is good for Gale.

Jake Darn, This Uniform’s For You by Easton Shane

Jake’s a quiet soul, mostly studying for the SAT and ACT tests to get further in life… and away from Zeke and Gale (the crazies) While he’d never admit it, he really does miss his dad, and he’s committed to doing exactly what he was told: make sure the others don’t kill each other (i.e. the crazies).

Joshua Darn, Home by Phillip Phillips

Joshua loves his family. There is absolutely no question of that no matter who you ask. He wants to make sure no harm’ll come to them and that he does his job well. That’s why it kills him to be apart from them. But it’s also why he has to- to make sure them, and his country, will be safe.

And one last one before I go back to writing these awesome charries..

Zeke Darn, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, from Veggietales

Zeke, I am so sorry not sorry. I know you want your macho tough daredevil look but it ain’t happening XD XD Forgive me! Or not. Anyhoo, for those of you who don’t know who Zeke is, he’s Gale’s bane of existence. But he’s also a really great goofy person. Who likes to think he’s a suave daredevil. Definitely a cinnamon roll. Sorry man. 😛

And that’s a wrap now! I’d do the rest but I better go write. XD Have a great one folks!

Blogger Box Tour! An Awesome New Business + An Interview With Clara

bloggerbox-confetti-resized

Hello there great people of the internet, and happy Sunday! I’m popping back from NaNoWriMo to finish some bloggerly things, including writing this post. So.

Now, as I’m sure most of you already know, there’s a wonderful blogger named Clara, and she blogs at Clara and Co. Which you should really check out, by the way. 😉

I first met Clara back in March, when I was starting out and needed a cool graphic, which Clara had on hand XD. But enough of my rambling. Clara’s started The Blogger Box, a new business for bloggers, newbies and veterans alike.

I hope you enjoy this brand new SNEAK PEEK of what you're going to find inside of the very first Blogger Box! 👀 All of the items have a specific purpose, each with the end goal of inspiring bloggers to create the best content that they possibly can. 👌
And, as part of the Blogger Box Tour, I’m going to be interviewing Clara, the maker of the Blogger Box. So let’s get started, shall we?
Me: Bold
Clara: Normal
                                                   ****************************
So, how long have you been blogging, and what inspired you to blog in the first place?
I’ve been blogging for almost five years! I honestly can’t believe it’s been that long. What first inspired me to blog were the American Girl Doll websites that I read with my sisters. I don’t post about dolls anymore, but they were what originally got me into blogging.
In your off screen time, what do you enjoy doing most?
I love reading good books, writing stories, playing with my dog Maude, composing letters to my pen pals, and taking pictures. 🙂
I’ve heard of how you took the concept of subscription boxes and tweaked that for bloggers, which I think is really awesome! But what made you take it from concept to an actual reality, and started this exciting new business?
Thank you! I’ve wanted to start my own business for years, but most of the ideas that I’ve had never seemed like something I could turn into reality. When I came up with the idea for The Blogger Box, it was the first business idea I’d had that really felt attainable, so I went for it!
Did you know that every Blogger Box will feature tips and inspiration from an actual blogger? Inside of each box, you'll find a card featuring ideas and advice from the owner of an up-and-coming blog. I'm so excited to announce that @afarmgal is going to be the first blogger featured in The Blogger Box! Allison's lifestyle blog, A Farm Girl's Life, focuses on topics such as photography, art, life on the farm, and much more. Allison has been blogging for several years, has more than 4,500 followers, and is a wonderful influence in the blogging community. Inside of the first box, you'll find five exclusive tips about Allison's blogging process and style that will help you grow your own blog and create authentic, original content. 👌

Comment below to share which bloggers YOU would love to see in The Blogger Box! ⬇

What is your hope for the boxes, and for those who receive them?
My hope is that these boxes will be an inspiration to bloggers everywhere! Blogging should be fun and relaxing, not a source of stress, and I hope that these boxes will help to make it just that. 😀
If I was a relative or friend of a blogger, and I thought they could use some inspiration, could I order a box in their name? And would everything in the box- that would be a surprise?
Yes, you certainly could! When you’re checking out from The Blogger Box website, you can mention that the box is a gift in the “order notes” section and I’ll be glad to mail it in a friend’s name.
You mentioned the boxes will be seasonal, which sounds so fascinating! I was wondering, will there also be boxes themed for certain kinds of bloggers? Like lifestyle, photography, writing, stuffie/doll bloggers?
At the moment, there will be a single box designed to appeal to as many different types of bloggers as possible. However, this business is just starting out, so I may definitely consider more “themed” boxes in the future!
And what so far has been the hardest- and funnest (that’s not a word but oh well :P)- parts of setting up shop?
Hmm… I would say the hardest part was finding and curating all of the items! It’s difficult to find the best prices on things and make sure that you’re getting a good deal. The most fun I’ve had is probably while designing the website – I love graphic design, and so that’s probably been my favorite part of the process so far.
In your years as a blogger, what’s something you can’t ever forget from your experience? Something memorable, like that’s the reason you keep going?
I absolutely love how many new people I’ve been able to meet through blogging, and they are undoubtedly the #1 reason that I continue to blog. I love being able to share my thoughts and creations with my fellow bloggers and get their advice and feedback, and being able to do the same for them. The blogging community really is an amazing place!
What most important piece of advice would you pass down to the new bloggers starting out for the very first time, who haven’t met a single soul on the blogsphere?
Go make some friends!! Comment on any blog that you find interesting. Introduce yourself and ask some questions about the other person to get the conversation going. Friends are what make blogging fun and rewarding, and your blogging experience won’t be the same without them!
Definitely! Thanks for your time, Clara! 😀
Thanks for interviewing me, Jo! I had so much fun answering your questions! 🙂
                                                        ******************************
Interested? I sure hope so! Want one of those boxes? Well, you can win one through this giveaway on Clara & Co! Which you have to go to to enter. *smug grin* Or, if you have Instagram, follow the Blogger Box and enter there.

Me right now.

*facepalms repeatedly*

I am so extremely sorry you guys.

It was bound to happen, me messing up on a post and not noticing til the day after.

So for the book of the month. Um, it wasn’t Anne Of Ingleside. I mean, most of you guessed but I really think I should clear that up. It was Wonder. XD

See, I was writing a second draft and I forgot to delete everything. I’m really sorry!

Blame NaNoWriMo. Which I should probably get back to.

Yes, that’s it and I have zero excuse for this sham of a post.

None. Whatsoever.

*backs out and hits metal bar*
