Something Old…

This Sunday afternoon, we bring to you..

**INSURMOUNTABLE**

2019-03-24_LI

The longest (and best, in my humble and unasked for opinion) and newest audio drama, courtesy of the Audiosmiths. ๐Ÿ™‚ย Rebekah put on the director hat and got all of us crazy people and a brother for good measure, and the rest of us tried to brush up on our New York accents. XD

Working on Insurmountable, the story of George Eastman, was fun. But more than that, it was rather deep, in a way I didn’t expect it to. But enough of my rambling. Enjoy the show. Oh, and it’s almost as long as an AIO episode. O_O I highly suggest a snack while you’re at it.

It Isn’t The End (Never Is, I’m Just Being Dramatic Per Norm)

DSC_0163

This is where we’re at, people.

Mondays are hard, math is brutal, and people can be jerks.

It’s not even Monday anymore.ย smh

Today is just one of those days that you want to end as quickly as possible. Work has gotten 10 times stressful, the people who I’m supposed to be collaborating with ended up dominatingย  what we were doing and now I’m just another go-get-this and go-do-that. School is crushing- even more so when people demand things that just can’t be met. I have zero time to write, it’s increasingly hard to be with people simply because they don’t really.. I don’t know, recognize that I have feelings? It’s hard. Send me coffee. XD Oh, and don’t forget to add that the fleshly part of me is a horrifying monster that I swear, I wish I could kick out of existence and burn. to. ash. I’m with Paul on this one. I do exactly what I don’t want to do and I don’t do what I want to do.

I’m not looking forward to anything right now. There’s no tangible or intangible prize I can think of for sticking out another day (i.e. this day).

So why on earth am I writing this post?

IMG_2076

Why do I feel the need to reveal that it’s a terrible, horrible, no good day and I’m feeling about as energetic as Eeyore and I’m kinda broken right bout now? Why do I bother writing a personal post that I’m not sure even I would enjoy reading? Why am I being so petty and writing who knows how many words of drek about bad days like it’s something so bad and hidden when it’s common knowledge that some days are good and every other day is.. bad times a hundred?

Iย  don’t know.

I joked to my mom a day or two ago when she was questioning my all-black wardrobeย  that it matched the color of my soul. Which, now that I look back on it, seems accurate right now. Life seems a little darker, not enough to grab a flashlight, but not light enough to feel safe either.

Seems.

Hang on while I grab a Nutella sandwich so we can talk about this some more, because I have to believe I’m not the only one out there. Surely there’s someone somewhere and this is where they’re at. Maybe it’s you.
cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

It isn’t the end.

I’ll say that again, not because you have bad eyes, but because I need this hammered into my numbskull of a brain.

It. is. not. the. end.

DSC_0165

Sure, maybe it looks like whatever rut you fell into, you can’t climb out and maybe it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, and maybe it’s too much for you and it’s hard and you want to give up.

But it isn’t too much for God.

Nothing is. Nothing.

So give up. XD

Yes, give it up. Give it up to God, because we were not meant to face the darkness alone. Probably the first thing I’ll say, no matter how preachy it sounds, because it’s true.

Tomorrow is not quite the same as today. The Maker of days has all of yours planned out, and you can trust them into His hands.

Sometimes what you need is to get back into the Word. Read a Psalm. Memorize something. Listen to a praise and worship song. It’s not a wish-and-problem-gone, granted, but you can never go wrong when you draw near to God and His Word.

“Hope is not some vague emotion that comes out of nowhere, like a stomachache. Hope is the confidence that the stupendous future promised to us by the word of the Spirit is going to really come true. ” -John Piper

DSC_0161

While we’re at it, laughter is a literal lifeline, lifesaver, and it’s beautiful. Use often. XD It’s easier to see things on the bright side when you forget that things aren’t for just a little while- when you look at the lighter stuff. And trust me- laughter is contagious and everyone should be infected, in my opinion.

DSC_0158

As previously stated, you. were. not. meant. to. be. alone. kay. The hardest thing about feeling down is that sometimes nobody could care less.

In that case, please know that there’s always someone. God, a cousin, a sibling- sometimes you have to reach out and take a change. Sometimes you’ll be hurt. But please know that no matter what, someone loves you. Always.

I guess when I try to sum it up- don’t give up hope. Grasp for it, step out for it- but don’t give it up. It’s there for you. For me.

Man, I need to take my own poorly hashed advice.

But there it is. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll be at the thrift store looking for lighter shirts. Because it ain’t all dark. As the wise foolish Poe Dameron once said, “as long as there is light, we still have a chance!”

March Is Tomorrow *panics, flails, and ultimately dies*

DSC_0152

Okay, I swear, I only looked at Pinterest for all of two hours!

Per week.

heh.

Where has the time gone? I have zero clue. Swoosh, bye, gone it went and February 2019 has gone to the ages.

It’s been a good month, it really has.

School has successfully managed to kill me, so there’s that. At least I get to do something fun and write a character profile. >:) Also finished Ben Hur- never, ever, ever hang out with your little sister on a precariously built balcony watching a fancy guy with a houseplant on his head go by. *nods seriously*

We had 3 snow days. It was wonderful.

I got a bunch of books to read and only knocked out like a quarter (which reminds me I should probably get to beta-ing this book *rushes*)

DSC_0153

The Lens & The Hard Drive turned one, along with a bunch of other blogs. O_O AH. How have I been doing this for a full year? I have no clue.

A bunch of writing happened, and secret projects and tons of laughing over Google Docs and videochats and just laughing.

I FIGURED OUT HOW INSTALL DESIGNER FONTS ONTO MY LAPTOP AHHHH

Also robbed the freebie section of every font/graphics website I could find, because I’m in the designing bloggies and whatnot mood. Speaking of, if you check out Tess at Silver Sky Dolls, you can see for yourself ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also, please, please lemme know if you want something designed. It’s fun and I may as well put my addiction to Canva to good use, right? ๐Ÿ˜€

Audiosmiths released a drama- and we’re working on one of the hardest and deepest ones we’ve done yet. Can’t wait to see how that goes. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC_0090

I’ve learned a ton about writing, and the inspiration is slowly coming back. Slowly. We’re only a couple weeks to NaNoWriMo everyone! *squeaks* Can’t wait for this craziness to come at me full force. It’s funny, my first NaNo, I didn’t think anything could be more stressful. Ha I was wrong. XD

Learned a few new songs on all 3 instruments I’m slightly adept at because my mom volunteered me and some other poor unfortunates to play background music at a church dinner. *sighs* Not to mention I’m shooting that too. Actually kinda looking forward to the shooting part- I miss holding a camera. ๐Ÿ˜› However, learning the new songs means I get to be distracted with YouTube and wake up ridiculously early for practice. It is not easy to sing alto at 9 am, just sayin’. Also choked back something close to a tear watching clips from Little Women 2018 and Gifted. Onions were chopped a lot this month.

DSC_0154

Got to cheer a friend on because they got accepted to Nationals, to sit by someone who was kinda feeling down, to be goofy and make a rather stressed sibling grin, to laugh evilly with a cousin over our work in progress at 12 am to boot, to enjoy the little blessings of life, to enjoy each day that comes. There’s been a few horrible days, yes. There’s been days I wish I could redo all over again because right now I just wanna crumple them up and toss into a dumpster- but every day has blessings of its own.

And I guess I’m finding them the more I take time to recognize they’re there. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC_0155

Oh, and Ducky kindly agreed to model for me because he’s an adorable sassy stuffie. He is shown above portraying the typical reaction to chemistry homework.

DSC_0156

Here is he, contemplating the reasons for existence as he leans demurely on the railing. That’s one thing I didn’t expect to appreciate: stuffies, and stuffie bloggers. Was not seeing that coming, but it came anyway. I think I’m the better for it.

DSC_0157

I guess he wasn’t that impressed with the whole ordeal. XD

DSC_0160

So I picked him up and got him to fly around!

Ducky: YOU ALMOST MADE ME DIE JO THAT’S WHAT YOU DID THAT WAS SO HIGH UP I COULD DIED OR FALLEN I AM A SENSITIVE PIECE OF STUFFY I SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE, JO, WITH CAREEE DO THAT AGAIN AND I WILL KARATE CHOP YOU

Yeesh, picky old duck.

DSC_0162

*passively-aggressively shows fight stance*

DSC_0164

And this is what happened when he tried attacking me.

Ducky: Medic!

DSC_0165

However, he recovered in time to venture forth into the dark darkness, which definitely had light the little liar.

DSC_0166

Got stuck halfway though.

Ducky: NOT. NICE. JO.

What, I’m just saying!

Anyway.

Favorite from this month.. Hm…

DSC_0169

Favorite Book

I really want to say this Black Widow comic that I’ve been reading, but that’s not my most most favorite, surprisingly.

DSC_0124It would probably beย As Brave As You,ย which is this great story about two boys and their summer with their grandparents. Either it’s really long, or I’m really slow, but I haven’t finished it yet. ๐Ÿ˜› I really loved Genie and Ernie’s sibling duo, and the theme. Ah. it’s great.

DSC_0161

Favorite Song

This one is almost pretty obvious.

I’m Not Here has been on repeat for the longest of times, partly because it’s so good and partly because it reminds me of a charrie down to the intricates of it, so yes, that’s my favorite. It’s also up there with True North by Rend Collective, Learning to Fly (How To Train Your Dragon 3 came out. I’m not okay. My childhood has ended. Ah. Help.) And Two, by Sleeping At Last. But ahhhh this song gets me. All the time. I dunno why. *sobs*

DSC_0163

Favorite Quote

And maybe one day I'll get around to fixing myself too

I think it speaks for itself. It really does.

So that’s been February for me in a nutshell. How ’bout you? Ready for March, or you wanna march in the other direction? Which, if you do, I’d join you, because I pretty much feel like this 110% of the time:

DSC_0167

Yeah, Ducky didn’t really like that.

*muffles his nonliving beak*

Have a good Thursday. And a great new month. ๐Ÿ™‚

One Year Of This Lens

I am a bad blogger, and that’s the absolute tea. XD I *had* posts coming out last week, but I only published the lone roasting of posts because.. life. School. YouTube. You know what it’s like. ๐Ÿ˜›ย  Makes me wonder how I actually made it to a whole year of blogging.

*record scratches*

It’s been aย year?ย

I’ve been blogging for apparently an entire year? O_O Mindblown.

Yeah. I have. One year ago today, I flipped open a laptop, found WordPress, and started this whole thing. I have no insightful words to say about this, other than MAN MY BLOG DESIGN WAS BLEH. *shudders*

Untitled design.png

Thank you for one whole crazy year of blogging- to be honest, I never expected to make it this far, and I had zero clue what was gonna happen. It takes readers for a blog to be a blog, so thank you so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was gonna announce my secret project for release, but since life made me push that behind for a while *humph* I guess I can announce my other secret! XD Which is….

I answered your questions on a podcast of sorts.ย

If you’ve followed Welcome To Odyssey, then you might’ve heard my horrible covers of AIO songs, and probably cringed at the sound of my voice in general. So what better thing to do to celebrate a year than to ruin it entirely with almost 45 minutes of my squeakly squeaky voice? ๐Ÿ˜€ But yeah, here you can find out if I actually have ships, the truth about my OTP, and how I got into photography! *nodnod*

Also, I’m awkward, and yes, I used Sleeping At Last’s music in the background, and yes, I may or may not have said stuff like, “How could youuuu” and “whyy” very dramatically. ๐Ÿ˜› So, sorry in advance for that, and I don’t mean to offend anyone. Truly.

I think this is the last time I’m doing something like this.

Maybe I’ll let you know my other plan sometime soon. *thumbs up*

A Scribble Scrabble On Life: Laughed At A License Plate (And Other Mundane Things)

DSC_0129

Well this one time we were driving and some black sedan whizzed by and the license plate read something along the lines of GANDALF.

You won’t believe how disappointed I was. There was no pointy gray hat. SACRILEGE.

I’ve always been interested in license plates. I even had a collection of the weirdest ones. I think my favorite was FLYAKITE. Mom didn’t get the reference.

Welcome back to another post of the mundane with your not favorite mundane person. ๐Ÿ˜€

The past two posts have been unusually deep, for some strange reason.ย  Not sure why. My brain is funny sometimes. Anyway, I’m breaking that streak because I couldn’t post stuff like that on a regular basis if my life depended on it. ๐Ÿ˜›

DSC_0116
I dunno what I was doing here, but I definitely thought it was funny. XD

How are you, huh?

Ooh, looky- it’s SNOWING.ย  The sun was shining a few minutes ago. I wish I had my camera, but there’s no way I’m stepping out in in 10 degree weather. And that’s in Farenheit, too. It’s cold. It’s beautiful. It’s cold. I’m shivering. XD

Library stuff. The other day Dad was free from work, so the reprobates that were us kids drove to the library to “work”.

HA.

Work.

*dies* That’s kinda funny. XD As if I could actually get work done in a library. Leaving me in a place of books is like taking a two year old to a candy shop- you won’t emerge unscathed.

DSC_0124

I actually did get some homework done though- the nice librarian who knows me as “The girl who’s almost always asking for the obscure American titles” showed me to the encyclopedias, and I think I walked back and forth from my desk to the shelf like…. 20 times? Per hour? SCHOOL. WHY.

Came back home with…. um.. tenish books? Does one count comics? And I owe 2.80 to the library now. Oops. And my card expires in 30 days. *sobs* The injustice.

DSC_0119

I’m not sure whose blog I saw it on, but the bookย Because You’ll Never Meet Me caught my eye, and I spent an hour or so reading it. Mini review- the POVs are really great, the characterization is well done, the concepts are seriously cool, but as for the other elements, I’m still deciding. XD It’s a pretty good read though! I also read Girls Can’t Hit and it’s a surprisingly good read as well. *nodnod* Makes me wanna pick up a set of boxing gloves.ย

DSC_0118

Speaking of comics, I screamed unnaturally when the A4 TV spot came on during the Super Bowl. I didn’t even bother to stick around for the game. XD It’s coming and I shouldn’t be this excited, but I am. ENDGAME. AH. I’m too excited. ๐Ÿ˜› Maybe also because I kinda get to nerd my family out with everything Marvel connect with my family a little more. ๐Ÿ™‚ Although I’m not lying about the family part. I got my brother reading 2 comics simply by leaving them out on the shelf. He hates reading. XD I’m counting this as a score. It’s been decided that we’re now pronouncing Tony Stark “Sony Tark.”

DSC_0126

Spiderman can’t be more relatable.

Anyway.

Brief birthday related paragraph. My other brother, also known as the Very Loud And Unusual One Who Plays Electric Guitar And Drives Me Crazy went and decided to get older. Being the good sister I’m not, I ate a slice off his birthday cake. What, he won’t miss it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Weather Intrusion. Wait, wait, THE SUN’S SHINING IN THE SNOW STORM *pokes head out window*

*freezes*

*dies*

*wakes up in Budapest*

Well, that was a mistake. ๐Ÿ˜› I’m dying it’sย cold.ย Sent hot cocoa over here! ๐Ÿ˜›

I’ve been desperately trying to catch up school-wise, which isn’t too bad if I just got my homework actually done, it feels like I live at this get up:

DSC_0112
Break down: Tiny black laptop balancing precariously on the edge of the abstract art couch is actually a DVD player. Main laptop is the thing I can’t live without due to its can’tlivewithoutqualites. Papers over there are the evil fatale assignments I had to go overtime to barely finish.ย

Which, I gotta say, is really, really nice, but it gets tiring over time. So what better way to switch things up than to say, do the art tutorials on The Art Lab?

Art Dump. *facepalm* Sometimes I question my sanity.

DSC_0120

I spent so long at that paintiiiing- and the marker bled through. ๐Ÿ˜กย  Oh well. It was rather fun trying to be artistic- and my other brother said he liked it. But still. those clouds look terrible.

DSC_0121

See, the marker bled straight through to the next page! (Also, very sorry for the terrible lighting) But I actually kinda like this one. My first decent drawing in a while. I just might redo and frame that one.

DSC_0122

And then I had to go and waste all my ink on trying the spaghetti mountain thing. It was HARD. And I ran outta marker. But it kinda looks like I actually tried! Which is good, because I actually did try. Art is hard.

DSC_0123

*gags* WHAT. EVEN. IS. THIS. ATROCITY.ย  YUK. My eyes hurt right now. I was trying Buttercup’s hair tutorial and thought, “ooh, this isn’t too bad, let’s try the face!”
What was I even thinking?

This offends everything in me that has an inkling of art sense. Why. Be-yuk. I suppose I’ll have to keep practicing to be remotely good. But that’s okay. Nobody’s an expert at first try. Take this as proof what whatever you’re doing is ten times better than whatever I could conjure.

DSC_0125

Conversations.ย I kinda wish people would take this mug at their words. Lately I’ve discovered that many times a lot of hurt can be avoided if someone just takes the time to listen. Many of the hurt’s been caused by myself too, which I hope to end. Tea doesn’t hurt. ๐Ÿ™‚

Audiosmiths’ Release!ย We’ve been working very, very hard on this, and it’s finally out! Big thanks to Rebekah for taking on the editing work โค (also: was it hard getting an annoying Scottish accent that was probably incorrect? Answer: YES. VERY. ARGH.)

To sum up. Sometimes, random posts are really just random. They don’t make an ounce of sense, and honestly, you gotta ask yourself what’s the point.

I guess I don’t have any other than that after a long hard week,ย  people need a reason to smile again. If my recaps of an otherwise mundane life can do that, than I’ll consider this successful. XD It’s easy to look at the news and have your heart sink. But as Thor said:

DSC_0127

I’m telling ya, these comics have more insight then they let on. Maybe go read one sometime. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  So here’s your funnies for the week. It made zero sense, but hopefully.. I dunno, maybe it got you to smile. ๐Ÿ™‚

Canada & America- A Comparison: A Collab Post By Meredith And Jo

2019-02-03

Hello wonderful people of the earth! Or Narnia, Asgard, the Death Star, Middle Earth, whichever you come from. Hi. ๐Ÿ™‚ First and most importantly, GET OFF THE DREADED READER IF YOU’RE ON IT AND GO CHECK OUT THE ACTUAL SITE THANKY YOU.

(I told myself I wouldn’t change my theme ever anymore, but.. well, it was Friday, and I finished my homework (ish) and I was bored and well. CHECK. THE. BLOG. OUT. It’s a drastic (and hopefully much better XD) change. So go and please,ย please check it out and I’m done sounding like a hopeless blogger even though I am XD)

Alright. On with this post. *plugs in Infinity War* *cracks knuckles* *dies*

B9EF66FA-B504-491B-A2BD-B0E1A3ECDE3BRight, so by now you’ve heard of Meredith, right? She’s the sweet and awesome blogger behind Artsy Arrow which, if you haven’t heard of before, you really should check it out. I’m so glad I got to know Meredith and bond with her about AIO, books, homeschooling, and, well, that’s she’s also in Ontario, Canada! ๐Ÿ˜€ Fancy that. We thought it would be pretty great if we couldย  share our experiences about the other’s country, since we both lived in the US/Canada for a time.

IMG_3073

I first went to the States when I was five for a family reunion, and to be perfectly honest… it feels like home. So I’m more than happy to talk about the differences between two countries I love. Hopefully y’all like it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_9287

People are just kinda a notch or two warmer and friendlier, for some reason.ย

If you’re scoffing at this, blame the fact I’m Canadian and wouldn’t really know what it’s like to be American. XD But Americans are just really friendly people! Sneeze in Walmart? Someone says “bless you”. Wait in line at a McDonalds? Any random person could say hi. Stop at a rest area at 2 am on a Friday night? You’ll find yourself being asked how your trip is. Canada is friendly.. but not in every part of the country like that. XD It’s nice.

IMG_3151

Patriotism’s really strong.ย

I kinda grinned one time pulling up to my aunt’s neighborhood and seeing so many American flags from the windows and everywhere. And not just the flags- like seeing little “God Bless America” signs and just the.. vibe. Correct me if I’m wrong. ๐Ÿ˜›

IMG_9433

People say “you’re fine” when you say “thanks”.

I tested this at a store once. Approximately everyone I interacted with said “you’re fine” whenever I said “thank you”. It’s awfully sweet of them to confirm my emotional status, but, uh, I don’t think I can get used to it. XD

IMG_9573

You say “sir” and “ma’m” and not “tito” and “tita”.

Ah. Double culture. XD um, well, in Filipino culture, the equivalent of sir isย tito and for ma’m,ย tita.ย Add in the fact that most of my Canadian world is Filipino, and I don’t get to say the English versions much. ๐Ÿ˜› Although I did get to going to Ottawa, but yeah. I find that interesting.

IMG_9533

A lot of my family’s on the other side of the border.

Does this make a ton of difference? It kinda does for me. After people find out I’m “the cousin of so and so’s friend’s sister-in-law’s brother,” they just start asking questions and being friendly and I’m not very much used to that, because I’m a sheltered homeschooling bean. XD No, but really, I went to a Sunday-school once, and after my aunt told the teacher who I was, Mrs. Iforgotyournamebutthankyouforputtingupwithme just beamed. “Oh, we’ll make sure she has a great time!”

I really did. XD

Maybe that’s why I feel at home. Huh. Dunno.

IMG_9556

American sweet tea is sugar water with a weak strain of some powered Lipton tea!ย

*gags* I’m not sure I like this part of American culture once. I tried Chikfila sweet tea and.. wow. That’s my sugar intake for the day. Finished in one sip. *shudders* How can anyone handle that sweetness? Someone help and explain. Anyway, our sweet tea’s really tea. XD Probably flavored with maple syrup. ๐Ÿ˜›

IMG_9559

SMALL TOWN AMERICA IS THE STUFF OF LEGENDS.

I’ve yet to really be in small town Canada (somewhere on the bucket list), but if it’s like small town America, I’d die of happiness. Again, I can’t say for sure what it’s really like, but my family walked into a Taco in Ohio somewhere once. There were like 2 people working the counter, and one was spoon-feeding her grandkid, who was eating there, there were two girls in the corner booth just talking. Then, one guy comes in,ย doesn’t order anything. I’ll never know why he came in, but everyone in the restaurant except for my family immediately shouted, “DON’T GIVE HIM HER NUMBER.”

Dorky me: I WANNA SEE THE REST OF THIS. AND WRITE IT DOWN. *dead*

I wish I could remember that town. I’ll go back one day.

I kinda wanna ask if he got her number, but I suppose that’s a mystery for the ages.

IMG_3080

America has the best franchises. Ever.

Chikfila. Cracker Barrel. TRADER JOE’S. We don’t have these wonders in Canada (except Chikfila’s coming here and I couldn’t be happier) and the obvious need for them SHOWS. I’ve been to Chikfila tons of times but I haven’t gotten to try a Chikn mini. I think that needs to change. Also, have you ever heard of Trader Joe runs? Yes, well, they’re part of the reason my family tries to road trip once a year- COOKIE BUTTER. *dies* I’d cross the border once a week for it. XD And Target didn’t even last in Canada like a yearish. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Wah. I kinda miss it. Ish. It’s like Walmart but red.

IMG_9548

I hope this post wasn’t too cringey XD I had a ton of good memories writing it, and now I really wanna dash across the border to say hi to everyone I know in the states. ๐Ÿ˜› All my friends are on the other side of the border, why is that? ๐Ÿ˜›ย  I had a hard time bottling up my wandering self in the pictures and I’ll probably do a wanderlust post of some sort sometime- but yeah.

IMG_3054

America is a beautiful country. It’s not perfect- no country is, but God’s really blessed me through the people (the ones I know, of course ๐Ÿ˜› ) living there, and I hope what the wonderful U.S of A stands for doesn’t change. Even though it kinda already is, but that’s a topic for another time. As Thor said, “Asgard isn’t a place. It’s a people.” And so is America.

I wish I knew why God put me in Canada- apparently, if things had been just a tad different, I’d be an American. But there’s a reason, I suppose, why both countries feel like home, and until I figure it out, I’ll just enjoy living in the true North- or so they call Canada. XD Besides, if I hadn’t been living here, I’d never have gotten to really get to know Meredith! Go check out her post about Canada’s differences- sums it up better than I ever could! ๐Ÿ˜€

January’s Over And I Dunno How

DSC_0088

Yup, I’m still trying to figure how that happened too. But 31 days have passed with the blink of an eye and we’re fully stuck in 2019.

It’s been an interesting month, that’s for sure.

DSC_0090

We welcomed the New Year theย proper way: getting two big bags of popcorn and watching Lord Of The Rings.

I got to go on a retreat- and that was pretty relaxing. Fun. Peaceful. Plus I got to photograph the stars. ๐Ÿ˜€

dsc_0091

School started and we all collectively died.

Started working on secret project that’s pretty fun/death inducing.

The Long End aired and I DIED. BUCK- JULES- THE MELTSNERS- SKINT- WOW. Like wow. Mindblown. Mom wondered why I was screaming after the first part aired.

Started reading through the New Testament- and I’m in 1 Corinthians now! I think. Ish. Wait, maybe that was another translation.. huh..

Speaking of the New Testament, really enjoyed having Bible studies over videochat. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A couple times I was sitting down to write posts but ending up watching something with my family instead. The posts can wait. But not my family,ย Incredibles 2, The Last Jedi, Antman & The Wasp,ย orย Black Panther. Incredibles 2 was AWESOME. Also, if you haven’t checked out the shortย Bao DO IT. *dies* It’s so good. I’m watching that whenever I can, it’s just really really nice to have some non-stereotypical representation you know? ๐Ÿ˜€

There were 2 gigantic snowstorms and thus, two snow days. Which means freezing cold and beautiful pictures.

It also means getting to go sledding… even though.. uh… technically..

DSC_0103

I’m pretty sure that sign’s dรฉcor. Right? I mean, you can’t be a Canadian and not sled. Sorry. No can do. It’s like taking away Tim Hortons. As a citizen of this fine country, I was exercising my right-

Okay. Okay. Still, it was fun though. Hanging on for dear life as the elements attack you? *thumbs up*

DSC_0095

Had a bunch of people ask me why I was wandering around the premises in the dead of winter, wind blowing, camera out, in a skirt (as if that’s a bad thing) no less, taking random pictures. I guess I did look kinda weird- but honestly, I’m past caring. XD besides, I got good pictures. B)

Interviewed a bunch of kids and failed dramatically.

Released a new audio drama! ๐Ÿ˜€ Which you can check out on the Audiosmiths page here.

I guess this month has been about finding a balance. Some stability. I’ve had a hard time figuring out school, and as you know, blogging has been random, and there’s just been so much to process and sometimes, taking that one step is tricky. Y’know?

DSC_0111

But I think I’m getting there. Over time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, it’s February now. Also the month I started blogging. *hollers and shrieks* how has it been one year since I started into this vast and crazy and wonderful and strange thing called blogging? I don’t know.

So I’m looking forward to that. As well as secret project 1 and secret project 2. And yes I have two. And no, I’m not telling you what they are. Yet. ๐Ÿ˜›

I think this post is done.

Oh wait, I still have to pick faves. Right. XD

Favorite Book

See the source image

I borrowed this way back in December and only now got around to reading it.ย smh I wish I read it sooner- it’s an sweet story about a girl who has OCD, and honestly, I really connected with her, even though we couldn’t be anymore different. I’d love to write this kind of book one day. ๐Ÿ˜€

Favorite Song

Do I honestly have to pick? You know as well as I do that I caaaaan’t XD- I actually have three.

Rend Collective’s Life Is Beautiful is beautiful. I think after like, the 20th time listening to it, I got my brother to use it for praise & worship- it’s that good.

And uh…. this is mushy, but I really liked Falling Slowly from Once the musical..

andย  38 Planes/Somewhere In The Middle Of Nowhere from another musical, Come From Away. But I’m not linking that, too much mush for the day. XD (Actually, you probably shouldn’t check out anything from either of these musicals except The North Strand from Once. That one’s catchy. XD)

Favorite Quote

I think I like musicals more than I care to admit. XD

Now this post is done. XD Seeya on the next one!

Scribble Scrabble: BIBPC Cat. 5, Slgiht Life Update, And Drabble

dsc_0162

Hello there, I’m tired. Who on earth are you?

Well, whoever you may be, thanks for coming over here. This won’t take too much of your time.

So for the fifth category of BIBPC, which has the ridiculously tricky category “disguise”, here’s my lame attempt and showing that in a picture.

jo-team bear- category 5

It’s terrible. But I can explain. When I was trying to figure out this prompt, I remembered the one time me and my brother switched DVDs to trick our brother into thinking he was watching Cars when in reality he was getting The Avengers or something. Which I thought was funny. And thus translated onto this picture. Antman and the Wasp is disguised as Pete’s Dragon. Sneaky. And seeing that the deadline for Cat. 5 isย today, I didn’t really have a choice. XD I’ve been busy!

Thanks for reading. See you for the next drive.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Okay, if you scrolled this far, thanks for sticking with me. Because I shall now unload tragic backstory (TM) update on your poor brains. XD
This first week of January has been tough but good. School’s.. school. Slowly conquering that. Can’t complain.
I’ve gotten to read all the way to Luke in my Bible reading, and I’m really happy about that. Who knows, maybe I’ll read the whole New Testament before the summer! ๐Ÿ˜€
Look at that. The Piano Guys’ version of Rewrite the Stars came on and I’m energized now. The power of music.
Anyway. So a few days ago we got to watch Antman and the Wasp, and– I’m not sure if you’re into movie time with your family, but I am. It was so hilarious and good- actually it would be good if there was no swearing. Just saying. Anyway, it was hilarious, and the concept and the plot and the characters- my dad and I are now part of the “Give Luis his own movie” movement. The man is so great. I will probably love Scott Lang because he’s not an Enhanced. He messes up. He’s normal. He’s a dad. What makes him a hero is he wants to help. So yeah, I got character research done.
I haven’t touched Just Come Home in ever.
Yeah, I’m terrible.
But I HAVE been doing research for it- so if any of you guys are farm people, or live in small towns, or have family in the army CALL ME- I just found out my mom’s best friend lives off base during deployment, so I’m pretty excited to ask her some questions.
Weird, I know. But.. I want to be as authentic as possible. And I really wanna honor the people who live in small towns, on farms, and with family in the army/navy/marines/country’s defenses. So yeah. XD
I’ve been turning some of my poems into songs, and trying to get used to my voice. For those of you who’ve heard my covers on Welcome To Odyssey, you know it’s kinda on the squeaky side. But here’s hoping I can work on that- and that I don’t like… despise things about myself I can’t change. I have a habit of really really hating stuff about myself, and it’s gotta stop. Except I can still hate my sin nature and my temper and my doubts and anger because those parts of me areย bad. Sinful. And since I’m trying to live for God, they have to go. Boo. Shoo. Byeee.
But I mean like hating my voice, or that I’m awkward, or that I get really passionate about my interests. That kinda of stuff. That I’m too skinny or too inadept at volleyball, or that I’m not the best writer or I’m not perfect. There we go. I’m trying to stop hating that I’m not perfect. ๐Ÿ˜€
I’ve done a post about this before, but basically, God made me, “imperfections” and weird quirks and all. Who am I to say to hate that? To hate what God’s made and is making into something better? Does that even make sense? XD So I’ll laugh at myself singing originals to my camera and do it because I love singing.
Wow. I took 2 long paragraphs to say that? -_- Eh. I rant. What can I say?
Oh- happy almost Friday! ๐Ÿ˜€
Scribble Scrabble: It’s Not Even A Month And I Get Tagged
dsc_0118
So yesterday the lovely Tess had posted about a bunch of stuff, and in that post was a Liebster Award, which she tagged yours truly for.
Goodness, I haven’t had this tag in a while. This should be fun! ๐Ÿ™‚
ย  **********Liebster Awardy**************
I know the rules. Thanks Tess, I’ll answer the questions, say 11 things about myself (boring I’ll warrant) and tag 11 poor people who never saw it coming >:)
dsc_0181
What was your favorite TV show/movie when you were a kid?
Oooh, boy. That depends. I loved Dennis The Menace, Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and Walker, Texas Ranger. Movies? Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Brave, um… Prince Of Egypt. The list goes on.
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
I think everyone should get away from the city into the wilderness for at least a day and a night, to get back into nature. Having just from a retreat, I supposed I’m biased, but I sincerely believe fresh air and no traffic noises can help almost anyone.ย
dsc_0046
What do you think is the best way to start the day?
Your favorite comfort drink and the Bible! Getting God’s Word first thing in the morning really helps get the rest of your day down pat.
What is one of your favorite smells?
This is gonna sound ridiculous, but I will have to say the smell of a hug. Not explaining any further because I don’t quite understand it myself. ๐Ÿ˜›
If you were suddenly put on a stage and told to deliver a speech, what would you talk about?
I would talk about how one life can change so many others simply by being, thanks to the ultimate life (*cough cough* The One Life *cough cough* Jesus’s life).
Do you think Wikipedia is a reliable source?
Like the general Wiki? I dunno. But for fandom wikis, they haven’t let me down yet. I’ve spent hours on AIOWiki and none of their info has proven to be false!
Whatโ€™s the worst advice youโ€™ve ever received?
Oh word Tess, you ask good questions. Um, I’d say “you need to be the example for your friends.” Honestly, why pick one kid to have to suffer being the role model, simply because their dad’s in the ministry? Also when said kid is just the same as the others? Do ya know how stuck up I had to feel, and I didn’t like it? Bleah.
What age would you like to live to?
Bold of you to assume I actually get to pick. XD I don’t know. 21. Because then I’m old enough to vote and join American Ninja Warrior.
dsc_0112
What do you want carved on your gravestone?
Huh.. umm… “Here lies Jo, seeker of truth. The bacon crumbles were never hidden long because of this.”
Or, or: “Jo: Professional awkward dork, lover of God. That’s all you need to know. Besides that Mitch was a good character. And Buck is a victim. And that God really does save.”
Have you ever saved someoneโ€™s life?
O_O
Have I WHAT now??
Boy, don’t I wish! I think I came close when one of the kids I babysit ran into traffic and I yanked her away from an incoming car? It all happened so fast, I can’t really remember.
Opinion on chow mein?
IT’S LIFE. My family always gets a tray on Sunday afternoons when we’re so tired and our blood sugars are unhealthily low. It’s so good. I could eat that forever. At least I wanna try.
dsc_0111
Well, that was easy. 11 facts however? Pfftโ€ฆ
I’m… 1) working on splicing Hastrman, so expect that coming anytime now, 2) going to read 100 books this year (including books of the NT so that takes away 27 books) 3) reading through the New Testament til April (hopefully!) 4) panicking because to move up a grade this year, I have to study twice as hard as I did last year, 5) writing to pen pals because they’re fun and my old one moved and I haven’t gotten the address yet. 6) My mom and I have a tradition every year. She cuts my hair, and we listen to AIO. 7) It takes 2 1/2 episodes for a full haircut. I checked. 8) I whole heartedly support the “give Luis his own superhero movie” movement, 9) am looking forward to Thursday because NEW EPISODE, 10) have an uncle whose parrot was mysteriously plucked bald and 11) have taken a bottle of maple syrup and drunk a little. I’m Canadian, what can you say? ๐Ÿ˜›
Sa wakas, I did it!
Now for the 11 people… goodness, who on earth picked 11? Did they just go trigger happy on the “1” key?
I Got Lost On A Retreat (But I survived! :D) And I Have Pictures To Tell The Tale
dsc_0190
Well, this is gonna be a random typical post with a random typical person and random typical pictures, glad you could stop by! ๐Ÿ˜€ Heya everyone! Happy Monday and the start of a long painful slow death.
I don’t know if you guys like travel posts, but I sure do! So, here goes before my brother finds our DVDs and I have to start school. XD
Anyway, last weekend was a prettyย amazing weekend, one being that it was the weekend and two being that I got to go on my church’s youth winter retreat, which is a big deal considering there’s only like 10 of us and the last retreat was way back in 2008. And I fell hard for the whole thing.
dsc_0031
The world was quiet there. Still. Cold. Welcoming. The roads just stretched on and on and if I had the wheel, I wouldn’t have stopped driving. I also woulda crashed. ๐Ÿ˜› But thankfully, neither happened. What did happen was a staying up late Bible study wherein we talked about the Rapture (still trying to figure out why), pizza, worship, and goofing around. Oh, and playing cards past 2. And than sharing our testimonies til 3.
I dunno, it was weird, but it was nice, too. ๐Ÿ™‚
But forget that- that’s not the best part. XD
I’ve been trying for weeks now to practice shooting in manual- which is so stinkin’ hard at night- and when we came there I immediately let everyone know I wasn’t gonna follow lights out because the stars were there and who needs sleep when you have the stars?
dsc_0079
So while everyone was playing cards, I walked around the place. Quiet. Still. Semi-creepy. I like to think I got better at night photography.
dsc_0093
As for the stars themselves… I TRIED KAY. I tried.
Also, it’s humanly impossible to rewrite the stars friends. They’re too far up.
dsc_0095
That was… pathetic.
dsc_0096
Also pathetic. I can’t believe I took this at a shutter speed of 30 seconds, and this was all I got. *facesmacks* Someone give me tips or something please.
dsc_0091
Slightly better.
I was so excited when I took these photos though- I actually laid on the ground and raised my camera up- remind me to bring a tripod next time. XD I’m pretty sure I left tons of room for improvement- but hey, I walked around in the cold air by myself and had my lens fogged up. It was worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚
And then I did the same thing again after like.. 4 hours of sleep because I was busy muttering Galatians at 3 and insomnia wasn’t a friendly, but it was morning, the sun was coming up, and there’s a part where Gale convinces her mom to let her stay up early to shoot the sunrise.
I wasn’t gonna let the opportunity slip by my window!
I even got two very groggy friends to come with me at 7:14 AM. And we set out in jammies.
No sun.
Nothing. Nada.
Rats!
Again, though, it was worth it- no regrets here. ๐Ÿ˜€
dsc_0145
There’s a lot of good memories.
Jogging to the lodge for breakfast and covertly sneaking bacon.
Feeling silly because we had to singย  really upbeat version of Jesus Loves Me.
Spending the morning reading the Word.
Scrambling to the gym and playing volleyball. Losing. I can’t serve- my dumb fist can take a punch, but not a spike. -_-
Playing ball hockey with a friend (also dude, thanks for not rubbing it in my face that I’m bad at it)
Trying to reach a ridiculously high curl up bar.
Giving up and heading outside where it was quiet and still and peaceful.
dsc_0116
Laughing at the poor unfortunates who trapped themselves in the cycle of fear that was the see-saw, and vowing to post their reactions online. I didn’t because I’m nice.
dsc_0128
Walking to the tiny lake and skipping rocks over the frozen surface. It made a satisfying thud sound.
dsc_0134
Scaling a tree and staying there while everyone was busy trying to throw a rock to the other side. And failing. I have a lot of blackmail to use now.
dsc_0143.jpg
Walking around, laughing with friends, forgetting that I’m not 10 and school starts day after tomorrow and so much is depending on me not messing up. Enjoying fresh air and being goofy. (Well, I’m always goofy but you know what I mean)
dsc_0148
Eating lunch and not caring about the lack of internet or that I didn’t bring my laptop, because who needs a screen when there a people around you and you’re here, aren’t you? ๐Ÿ™‚
dsc_0157
Getting lost and just taking picture after picture because finally, manual works, hooray! I also really like these pictures. I got something really close to a sunflare. ๐Ÿ˜€
dsc_0164
dsc_0166
Just enjoying being alone and happy because I could walk wherever I wanted and not worry about my parents being worried I’d be kidnapped and taken to Budapest to work for the FBI. XD When you’re close to the city, everything’s gotta be worried about.
dsc_0171
Hammering out tunes on the old piano in the corner.
dsc_0185
Driving away and just staring at all the farms and barns and horses and honestly, the scene reminds me of Just Come Home and now I really wanna finish that book XD Who knew two hours of fields was the push I needed? Not me.
I think I’ve rambled on long enough- but I’ll finish with saying that I’m grateful I got to go. I was planning to grumble about it to myself, but I guess God changed my heart because I have so much to be grateful for about that. For bacon, duh. For wandering. For the woods. For that guy who believed I could jump a fence if I tried hard enough. For friends. For family. For being challenged to love the Bible more.
What did I just say about rambling XD
Alright. Get to work guys- have a great Monday!
