Something Old…

This Sunday afternoon, we bring to you..

**INSURMOUNTABLE**

2019-03-24_LI

The longest (and best, in my humble and unasked for opinion) and newest audio drama, courtesy of the Audiosmiths. πŸ™‚Β Rebekah put on the director hat and got all of us crazy people and a brother for good measure, and the rest of us tried to brush up on our New York accents. XD

Working on Insurmountable, the story of George Eastman, was fun. But more than that, it was rather deep, in a way I didn’t expect it to. But enough of my rambling. Enjoy the show. Oh, and it’s almost as long as an AIO episode. O_O I highly suggest a snack while you’re at it.

March Is Tomorrow *panics, flails, and ultimately dies*

DSC_0152

Okay, I swear, I only looked at Pinterest for all of two hours!

Per week.

heh.

Where has the time gone? I have zero clue. Swoosh, bye, gone it went and February 2019 has gone to the ages.

It’s been a good month, it really has.

School has successfully managed to kill me, so there’s that. At least I get to do something fun and write a character profile. >:) Also finished Ben Hur- never, ever, ever hang out with your little sister on a precariously built balcony watching a fancy guy with a houseplant on his head go by. *nods seriously*

We had 3 snow days. It was wonderful.

I got a bunch of books to read and only knocked out like a quarter (which reminds me I should probably get to beta-ing this book *rushes*)

DSC_0153

The Lens & The Hard Drive turned one, along with a bunch of other blogs. O_O AH. How have I been doing this for a full year? I have no clue.

A bunch of writing happened, and secret projects and tons of laughing over Google Docs and videochats and just laughing.

I FIGURED OUT HOW INSTALL DESIGNER FONTS ONTO MY LAPTOP AHHHH

Also robbed the freebie section of every font/graphics website I could find, because I’m in the designing bloggies and whatnot mood. Speaking of, if you check out Tess at Silver Sky Dolls, you can see for yourself πŸ˜‰ Also, please, please lemme know if you want something designed. It’s fun and I may as well put my addiction to Canva to good use, right? πŸ˜€

Audiosmiths released a drama- and we’re working on one of the hardest and deepest ones we’ve done yet. Can’t wait to see how that goes. πŸ™‚

DSC_0090

I’ve learned a ton about writing, and the inspiration is slowly coming back. Slowly. We’re only a couple weeks to NaNoWriMo everyone! *squeaks* Can’t wait for this craziness to come at me full force. It’s funny, my first NaNo, I didn’t think anything could be more stressful. Ha I was wrong. XD

Learned a few new songs on all 3 instruments I’m slightly adept at because my mom volunteered me and some other poor unfortunates to play background music at a church dinner. *sighs* Not to mention I’m shooting that too. Actually kinda looking forward to the shooting part- I miss holding a camera. πŸ˜› However, learning the new songs means I get to be distracted with YouTube and wake up ridiculously early for practice. It is not easy to sing alto at 9 am, just sayin’. Also choked back something close to a tear watching clips from Little Women 2018 and Gifted. Onions were chopped a lot this month.

DSC_0154

Got to cheer a friend on because they got accepted to Nationals, to sit by someone who was kinda feeling down, to be goofy and make a rather stressed sibling grin, to laugh evilly with a cousin over our work in progress at 12 am to boot, to enjoy the little blessings of life, to enjoy each day that comes. There’s been a few horrible days, yes. There’s been days I wish I could redo all over again because right now I just wanna crumple them up and toss into a dumpster- but every day has blessings of its own.

And I guess I’m finding them the more I take time to recognize they’re there. πŸ™‚

DSC_0155

Oh, and Ducky kindly agreed to model for me because he’s an adorable sassy stuffie. He is shown above portraying the typical reaction to chemistry homework.

DSC_0156

Here is he, contemplating the reasons for existence as he leans demurely on the railing. That’s one thing I didn’t expect to appreciate: stuffies, and stuffie bloggers. Was not seeing that coming, but it came anyway. I think I’m the better for it.

DSC_0157

I guess he wasn’t that impressed with the whole ordeal. XD

DSC_0160

So I picked him up and got him to fly around!

Ducky: YOU ALMOST MADE ME DIE JO THAT’S WHAT YOU DID THAT WAS SO HIGH UP I COULD DIED OR FALLEN I AM A SENSITIVE PIECE OF STUFFY I SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE, JO, WITH CAREEE DO THAT AGAIN AND I WILL KARATE CHOP YOU

Yeesh, picky old duck.

DSC_0162

*passively-aggressively shows fight stance*

DSC_0164

And this is what happened when he tried attacking me.

Ducky: Medic!

DSC_0165

However, he recovered in time to venture forth into the dark darkness, which definitely had light the little liar.

DSC_0166

Got stuck halfway though.

Ducky: NOT. NICE. JO.

What, I’m just saying!

Anyway.

Favorite from this month.. Hm…

DSC_0169

Favorite Book

I really want to say this Black Widow comic that I’ve been reading, but that’s not my most most favorite, surprisingly.

DSC_0124It would probably beΒ As Brave As You,Β which is this great story about two boys and their summer with their grandparents. Either it’s really long, or I’m really slow, but I haven’t finished it yet. πŸ˜› I really loved Genie and Ernie’s sibling duo, and the theme. Ah. it’s great.

DSC_0161

Favorite Song

This one is almost pretty obvious.

I’m Not Here has been on repeat for the longest of times, partly because it’s so good and partly because it reminds me of a charrie down to the intricates of it, so yes, that’s my favorite. It’s also up there with True North by Rend Collective, Learning to Fly (How To Train Your Dragon 3 came out. I’m not okay. My childhood has ended. Ah. Help.) And Two, by Sleeping At Last. But ahhhh this song gets me. All the time. I dunno why. *sobs*

DSC_0163

Favorite Quote

And maybe one day I'll get around to fixing myself too

I think it speaks for itself. It really does.

So that’s been February for me in a nutshell. How ’bout you? Ready for March, or you wanna march in the other direction? Which, if you do, I’d join you, because I pretty much feel like this 110% of the time:

DSC_0167

Yeah, Ducky didn’t really like that.

*muffles his nonliving beak*

Have a good Thursday. And a great new month. πŸ™‚

A Scribble Scrabble On Life: Laughed At A License Plate (And Other Mundane Things)

DSC_0129

Well this one time we were driving and some black sedan whizzed by and the license plate read something along the lines of GANDALF.

You won’t believe how disappointed I was. There was no pointy gray hat. SACRILEGE.

I’ve always been interested in license plates. I even had a collection of the weirdest ones. I think my favorite was FLYAKITE. Mom didn’t get the reference.

Welcome back to another post of the mundane with your not favorite mundane person. πŸ˜€

The past two posts have been unusually deep, for some strange reason.Β  Not sure why. My brain is funny sometimes. Anyway, I’m breaking that streak because I couldn’t post stuff like that on a regular basis if my life depended on it. πŸ˜›

DSC_0116
I dunno what I was doing here, but I definitely thought it was funny. XD

How are you, huh?

Ooh, looky- it’s SNOWING.Β  The sun was shining a few minutes ago. I wish I had my camera, but there’s no way I’m stepping out in in 10 degree weather. And that’s in Farenheit, too. It’s cold. It’s beautiful. It’s cold. I’m shivering. XD

Library stuff. The other day Dad was free from work, so the reprobates that were us kids drove to the library to “work”.

HA.

Work.

*dies* That’s kinda funny. XD As if I could actually get work done in a library. Leaving me in a place of books is like taking a two year old to a candy shop- you won’t emerge unscathed.

DSC_0124

I actually did get some homework done though- the nice librarian who knows me as “The girl who’s almost always asking for the obscure American titles” showed me to the encyclopedias, and I think I walked back and forth from my desk to the shelf like…. 20 times? Per hour? SCHOOL. WHY.

Came back home with…. um.. tenish books? Does one count comics? And I owe 2.80 to the library now. Oops. And my card expires in 30 days. *sobs* The injustice.

DSC_0119

I’m not sure whose blog I saw it on, but the bookΒ Because You’ll Never Meet Me caught my eye, and I spent an hour or so reading it. Mini review- the POVs are really great, the characterization is well done, the concepts are seriously cool, but as for the other elements, I’m still deciding. XD It’s a pretty good read though! I also read Girls Can’t Hit and it’s a surprisingly good read as well. *nodnod* Makes me wanna pick up a set of boxing gloves.Β

DSC_0118

Speaking of comics, I screamed unnaturally when the A4 TV spot came on during the Super Bowl. I didn’t even bother to stick around for the game. XD It’s coming and I shouldn’t be this excited, but I am. ENDGAME. AH. I’m too excited. πŸ˜› Maybe also because I kinda get to nerd my family out with everything Marvel connect with my family a little more. πŸ™‚ Although I’m not lying about the family part. I got my brother reading 2 comics simply by leaving them out on the shelf. He hates reading. XD I’m counting this as a score. It’s been decided that we’re now pronouncing Tony Stark “Sony Tark.”

DSC_0126

Spiderman can’t be more relatable.

Anyway.

Brief birthday related paragraph. My other brother, also known as the Very Loud And Unusual One Who Plays Electric Guitar And Drives Me Crazy went and decided to get older. Being the good sister I’m not, I ate a slice off his birthday cake. What, he won’t miss it. πŸ™‚

Weather Intrusion. Wait, wait, THE SUN’S SHINING IN THE SNOW STORM *pokes head out window*

*freezes*

*dies*

*wakes up in Budapest*

Well, that was a mistake. πŸ˜› I’m dying it’sΒ cold.Β Sent hot cocoa over here! πŸ˜›

I’ve been desperately trying to catch up school-wise, which isn’t too bad if I just got my homework actually done, it feels like I live at this get up:

DSC_0112
Break down: Tiny black laptop balancing precariously on the edge of the abstract art couch is actually a DVD player. Main laptop is the thing I can’t live without due to its can’tlivewithoutqualites. Papers over there are the evil fatale assignments I had to go overtime to barely finish.Β

Which, I gotta say, is really, really nice, but it gets tiring over time. So what better way to switch things up than to say, do the art tutorials on The Art Lab?

Art Dump. *facepalm* Sometimes I question my sanity.

DSC_0120

I spent so long at that paintiiiing- and the marker bled through. 😑  Oh well. It was rather fun trying to be artistic- and my other brother said he liked it. But still. those clouds look terrible.

DSC_0121

See, the marker bled straight through to the next page! (Also, very sorry for the terrible lighting) But I actually kinda like this one. My first decent drawing in a while. I just might redo and frame that one.

DSC_0122

And then I had to go and waste all my ink on trying the spaghetti mountain thing. It was HARD. And I ran outta marker. But it kinda looks like I actually tried! Which is good, because I actually did try. Art is hard.

DSC_0123

*gags* WHAT. EVEN. IS. THIS. ATROCITY.Β  YUK. My eyes hurt right now. I was trying Buttercup’s hair tutorial and thought, “ooh, this isn’t too bad, let’s try the face!”
What was I even thinking?

This offends everything in me that has an inkling of art sense. Why. Be-yuk. I suppose I’ll have to keep practicing to be remotely good. But that’s okay. Nobody’s an expert at first try. Take this as proof what whatever you’re doing is ten times better than whatever I could conjure.

DSC_0125

Conversations.Β I kinda wish people would take this mug at their words. Lately I’ve discovered that many times a lot of hurt can be avoided if someone just takes the time to listen. Many of the hurt’s been caused by myself too, which I hope to end. Tea doesn’t hurt. πŸ™‚

Audiosmiths’ Release!Β We’ve been working very, very hard on this, and it’s finally out! Big thanks to Rebekah for taking on the editing work ❀ (also: was it hard getting an annoying Scottish accent that was probably incorrect? Answer: YES. VERY. ARGH.)

To sum up. Sometimes, random posts are really just random. They don’t make an ounce of sense, and honestly, you gotta ask yourself what’s the point.

I guess I don’t have any other than that after a long hard week,Β  people need a reason to smile again. If my recaps of an otherwise mundane life can do that, than I’ll consider this successful. XD It’s easy to look at the news and have your heart sink. But as Thor said:

DSC_0127

I’m telling ya, these comics have more insight then they let on. Maybe go read one sometime. πŸ˜‰Β  So here’s your funnies for the week. It made zero sense, but hopefully.. I dunno, maybe it got you to smile. πŸ™‚

Have a good one, okay? πŸ˜€

January’s Over And I Dunno How

DSC_0088

Yup, I’m still trying to figure how that happened too. But 31 days have passed with the blink of an eye and we’re fully stuck in 2019.

It’s been an interesting month, that’s for sure.

DSC_0090

We welcomed the New Year theΒ proper way: getting two big bags of popcorn and watching Lord Of The Rings.

I got to go on a retreat- and that was pretty relaxing. Fun. Peaceful. Plus I got to photograph the stars. πŸ˜€

dsc_0091

School started and we all collectively died.

Started working on secret project that’s pretty fun/death inducing.

The Long End aired and I DIED. BUCK- JULES- THE MELTSNERS- SKINT- WOW. Like wow. Mindblown. Mom wondered why I was screaming after the first part aired.

Started reading through the New Testament- and I’m in 1 Corinthians now! I think. Ish. Wait, maybe that was another translation.. huh..

Speaking of the New Testament, really enjoyed having Bible studies over videochat. πŸ˜‰

A couple times I was sitting down to write posts but ending up watching something with my family instead. The posts can wait. But not my family,Β Incredibles 2, The Last Jedi, Antman & The Wasp,Β orΒ Black Panther. Incredibles 2 was AWESOME. Also, if you haven’t checked out the shortΒ Bao DO IT. *dies* It’s so good. I’m watching that whenever I can, it’s just really really nice to have some non-stereotypical representation you know? πŸ˜€

There were 2 gigantic snowstorms and thus, two snow days. Which means freezing cold and beautiful pictures.

It also means getting to go sledding… even though.. uh… technically..

DSC_0103

I’m pretty sure that sign’s dΓ©cor. Right? I mean, you can’t be a Canadian and not sled. Sorry. No can do. It’s like taking away Tim Hortons. As a citizen of this fine country, I was exercising my right-

Okay. Okay. Still, it was fun though. Hanging on for dear life as the elements attack you? *thumbs up*

DSC_0095

Had a bunch of people ask me why I was wandering around the premises in the dead of winter, wind blowing, camera out, in a skirt (as if that’s a bad thing) no less, taking random pictures. I guess I did look kinda weird- but honestly, I’m past caring. XD besides, I got good pictures. B)

Interviewed a bunch of kids and failed dramatically.

Released a new audio drama! πŸ˜€ Which you can check out on the Audiosmiths page here.

I guess this month has been about finding a balance. Some stability. I’ve had a hard time figuring out school, and as you know, blogging has been random, and there’s just been so much to process and sometimes, taking that one step is tricky. Y’know?

DSC_0111

But I think I’m getting there. Over time. πŸ™‚

Anyway, it’s February now. Also the month I started blogging. *hollers and shrieks* how has it been one year since I started into this vast and crazy and wonderful and strange thing called blogging? I don’t know.

So I’m looking forward to that. As well as secret project 1 and secret project 2. And yes I have two. And no, I’m not telling you what they are. Yet. πŸ˜›

I think this post is done.

Oh wait, I still have to pick faves. Right. XD

Favorite Book

See the source image

I borrowed this way back in December and only now got around to reading it.Β smh I wish I read it sooner- it’s an sweet story about a girl who has OCD, and honestly, I really connected with her, even though we couldn’t be anymore different. I’d love to write this kind of book one day. πŸ˜€

Favorite Song

Do I honestly have to pick? You know as well as I do that I caaaaan’t XD- I actually have three.

Rend Collective’s Life Is Beautiful is beautiful. I think after like, the 20th time listening to it, I got my brother to use it for praise & worship- it’s that good.

And uh…. this is mushy, but I really liked Falling Slowly from Once the musical..

andΒ  38 Planes/Somewhere In The Middle Of Nowhere from another musical, Come From Away. But I’m not linking that, too much mush for the day. XD (Actually, you probably shouldn’t check out anything from either of these musicals except The North Strand from Once. That one’s catchy. XD)

Favorite Quote

I think I like musicals more than I care to admit. XD

Now this post is done. XD Seeya on the next one!

A Collab With Enni About The 101’s of Captain Jack Sparrow-ing

Jack's Compass - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Surprised to see a title like that from a blog like this?

Me too, to be honest. Me too.

In all honesty, the idea of talking about a film series I haven’t watched in ages never crossed my mind until a few days ago, when Enni and I thought it be a good idea for a collab.

Speaking of Enni, if you haven’t followed her blog yet or at least checked it out WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE go, go, go! Enni’s one of my first and craziest blogger friends that I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and her take on everything is pure and simple INTP. Go on and ask her about MBTI- I personally guarantee she won’t stop talking. As far as personalities go, Enni is an old, good, crazy soul.

Who’s probably waiting for this post right now. Heh. hehe. hehe.

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

Pirates Of The Caribbean. Pirates. Fights. Swords. Rum. An unhealthy amount of rum. Strange sea-monsters. Epic music. These are probably what comes to mind when thinking of one of the biggest pirates movies/stories around.

It’s not really one with the best morals, either, y’know? I mean, there’sΒ pirates. What more evidence do you need? It’s no Sherwood film, and to be honest, it’s probably on the same level as Guardians of the Galaxy. Entertaining, but more entertaining than wholesome.

So why am I writing a post about?

More importantly, why do I like it?

Well, I’m a writer. And this is like one of my favorite case studies: characters, plot, setting, SHIPS *hollers* villians, the whole bit. But the entire story in general has it’s good parts. And it has it’s hilarious parts. And the thing is, Jack- er,Β Captain Jack isn’t completely shallow.Β  I mean he is, but..

Use as a quote for a treasure chest filled with golden rocks with "treasures" written about the person..
No offense mate, but you stole this from Bilbo. *frowns* Good quote to steal though!
jack sparrow
Relatable.

I really took a hundred + words to say nothing? Wow. πŸ˜› Ahem.Β  Let’s go before I walk the plank. Enni had the first five rules or whatever they may be called, and I have the last ten.

(Also- psst: look carefully- this post has an Easter egg for what’s next in our POTC duology πŸ˜‰ )

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

6. After anything offensive you might’ve said, always tack on a “savvy”.

See the source image

Extremely important, mates! With the tacking on of savvy, one needn’t fear of looking like an awkward land-lubbering greenhorn. When saying the word savvy, open your jaw and let your tongue flap, it works much better that way. Tilt your head in the most smuggest position you can think of and flash your gold teeth as you do so.

This goes well in hand with, “did you see that? because I will NOT be doing it again” and I suggest practicing as often as possible to ensure a truly Captain Jack Sparrow flair. Because if you’re like me, which you are not, then you may want to find yourself saying savvy after every sentence, just in case you don’t want a sword in your face or say, having to walk the plank. It turns out to be quite useful at times.

7. Do your best to look suspiciously at any and all monkeys.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I didn't understand this until I watched till the end of the credits of Curse of the Black Pearl. Seriously, go watch it.

Don’t forget to hiss words like, “ooh, monkey” and “beast” as you flap your hand at a thieving little rasca- mammal with a handy tail. And make sure you squint especially hard at that monkey- for all we know, that sneak could’ve been related to that same one in Night At The Museum.. we’ll never know. *mysterious look*Β  Obviously, this means you must hate all monkeys, whether they’re shrunk up in bottles or snatching your jewelry. And look for a monkey if in desire to shoot something.

8. When in doubt run- preferably with your arms flailing and screaming never hurt.
See the source image

Oops, wrong one.
See the source image

Much better!

Now, I honestly don’t think you’ll be stuck on an island full of cannibals trying to cook you for supper, but if that or something pretty equivalent to that befalls you (say, it’s your turn in the church nursery or perhaps you’re pulling up to your annual family reunion or you’ve accidentally taken an important locket or you’re playing a highly crazy game of tag) then, follow the captain and RUN FOR YOUR LIFEEEEEEE!!

It’s simple really. Move your feet really fast, lift your arms and wave them wildly, and scream like there’s no tomorrow! πŸ˜€ It takes a moment of extreme panic- which will come eventually!

9. Whenever you find large jars of dirt, raise them up in triumph and loudly proclaim, “I’ve got a jar of dirt!”

Yeah, you have NO idea how important this one is! I mean, you could be holding one of the Avengers, mate, so lift that jar high and proud as you dash past some very confused mates and confuse the enemy.

Just don’t drop it, of course, because you can’t vacuum a boat!

And yes I just mentioned another fandom. >:)

10. If a plan sounds mad and there’s an 80% chance you’re gonna die- DO IT.
See the source image
And this, of course, is the epitome of Jack Sparrow- doing everything that’s dangerous and risky and plain out DEATH INDUCING and somehow surviving anyway.

It’s best, of course, to be confident about it. Say something insightful and confusing, like, “the problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.” And then solve the problem! πŸ˜€

Some good examples of mad, 80% risk of death plans include but are not limited to: doing all your homework on the last day, jumping off a cliff into water, saying hi in a different language to someone you’ve never met, figuring out if it’s yanny or laurel, writing 18k on the last day of NaNo, sneaking aboard a donut ship, solving riddles with a mangy ring loving bony raw fish eater, and going for the head.

If you follow these ten tips carefully, you should be on your way to being a great Captain Jack Sparrow! Just don’t drink rum- it ain’t good fer ya. Oh, andΒ 11. Spout advice when you have it. Example:

I Call Myself A Writer

DSC_0276

Today, or at least this month, marks an entire year I started to write seriously.

One year of looking at screens and seeing my story come to life.

One year of playlists.

One year of bacon crumbles.

One full year since Gale Darn became Gale Darn.

One year of hopelessly wanting to meet characters.

One year. 75k worth of words total.

In all honesty, it all started way before last year.

cropped-b9ef66fa-b504-491b-a2bd-b0e1a3ecde3b

I think I first got into writing by peeking over my sister’s shoulder. I dunno if I was five or six, but I do remember hearing the worst shriek ever heard in real life, and that I was promptly booted out and placed in the hall for an indefinite period of time.

It mighta been an hour later, but eventually I got invited back in and was allowed to take a sneak peak at my sister’s WIP.

If you’re reading this, Ate, thank you for putting up with me. It means a lot. πŸ™‚

Like a lot a lot. ❀

Anyway, that was my first introduction to the wonderful world of writing: characters, theme, bad guys who were really just overgrown kids, laughing over dialogue, it was awesome. And now that I look back, I’m surprised my sister even let me know her WIP existed. Huh. I mean, I wouldn’t have told my five year old self I had a WIP. But anyway, the whole idea fascinated me for a couple weeks.

Aaaand I forgot about it.

DSC_0182

Fast forward a few years later, and I was 7, puzzling over my first poem. Which was a terrible epic about a Loyalist in the Revolution whose greatest secret was a wig. Yes, no kidding.

My first plot bunny was a crazy tale of a girl who was forced out of her home and roamed the streets of 1950 New York. Again, no kidding. πŸ˜› That particular story begins with a flashback. How entirely original.

All that to say, stories have been in me for a while. I guess now I just decided not to bottle it up anymore.

Or rather, a year ago.

How was it a year?

I’m gonna be honest (which I try to be, for the most part, sometimes painfully so) sometimes I look back and groan. I’ve been writing for a year and I haven’t finished a single draft? I haven’t edited a single complete book? I didn’t even submit any of my stories to anything?

I thought I was a writer.

And while some of that doubt is thanks to nosy people that are also known as family and friends, a good deal of that is thanks to myself.

Publishing would mean the world to me.

And I’m nowhere near that.

Maybe I’m not cut out for this kinda thing. Maybe I should stick to my comfortable old self, the one that daydreamed her stories instead of writing so others could see them too. Maybe I should just let it go. Leave the doc open, but never read through it.

Because if I’m a writer, why on earth am I not writing anything worth writing?

DSC_0101

Thing is… publishing is not why I started writing.

Writing is why I started writing. XD I write because I love to write, because I love putting words on paper.. on or a screen. Whichever I get my hands on first. πŸ˜›

So I think I’m done mentally beating myself up over not being a published author of a great series of novels yet. I’ve only been writing for like a year and 6 more years. XD Writing shouldn’t feel like a chore, but something fun, new, something completely the opposite of school. Unless you like school. Then it’s very similar.

But yeah. Here’s to one year, and hopefully more coherent posts to come. πŸ˜€

An Cringey Interview With An Unusually Calm Child, Plus Aesthetic Snow Pictures (not)

dsc_0017

For a second there I thought I was on the new editor and I panicked a bit. I HATE the new editor. πŸ˜› Happy Sunday fellow friends, countryfolks, and bloggers and nonbloggers!

Anyway, last night I couldn’t sleep, so I used the surefire way to make anyone sleepy: brainstorming blogging ideas. You can guess how effectual that was. The result was 8ish hours of sleep and more blog post ideas than I know what to do with.

I’m actually planning ahead. For my blog. *mindblown*

So if you maybe are interested in new content, it’s coming. πŸ™‚

Anyway, on to this post. I had fun with it.

Once in a blog, you’ll see those interview-with-younger-siblings posts. Those adorable transcripted babbles and hilarious comments and they’re just really fun. Who doesn’t love a 5 year old’s opinions on mac and cheese? I can’t really say I don’t, so. πŸ˜›

If you think you know where I’m getting at, I don’t have younger siblings. I’m the youngest. XD No point in interviewing myself right? But I do babysit. More like keepthekidsaliiiiiiveforanhourwhiletheirparentsarebusy. And not die myself in the process. These kids are crazy. But I love ’em. And it might be fun to showcase them on this blog. (And I may or may not be planning ahead for a school project, so heh.) Without further ado, Selse (name changed to protect the innocent- me, for one)! *thumbs up*

(And yes, I did get permission just so we’re clear.)

dsc_0020

*Cool Intro- just roll with it okay*

Me: Okay, I’m gonna ask you ten questions, just ten, kay? (Liar, Jo, liar) One. What is your favorite thing to do? (Wow, so original)

(basically Selse answers the Liebster Award)

Selse: *half-chewing on pizza* um.. do gymnastics.

Me: Do gymnastics? okay, that’s cool. What’s your favorite thing about gymnastics? (Jooo shut up)

Selse: *thinks* I like to do the bars flip.

*Edit side questions because cringe!*

Me: What do you think about American Girl dolls? (Finally, Jo, a semi decent question)

Selse: Um.. I think they’re kinda creepy because I watched a video at night *sniffs nose* of, um, American dolls like, move around, and *laughs* take up knives and like, chop tomatoes with blood.

(I’m dying XD XD Stopmotion gone wrong? I guess we’ll never know)

Me: Okay, that is kinda creepy. So you watch these on YouTube?

Selse: Yeah.

dsc_0024

Me: What’s your favorite YouTube channel?

Selse: *waits* *mumbles something I didn’t catch* ..and I like slime videos because I like slimes.

(I had no clue slimes or slime videos were a thing until a year ago. Huh.)

Me: You like slimes? (Selse JUST said that Jo, stop repeating things to make yourself sound less awkward)

Selse: Yeah.

dsc_0025

Me: What kind of slime do you like? Butter slime, or… (halp I don’t know what I’m saying right now, obviously)

Selse: I like all slimes. That’s the… uh *plays with fingers* fluffy slime, fancy slime, butter slime, crunchy slime, and just regular slime.

Me: So any kind of slime?

Selse: Yes.

Me: That’s really cool. (I stand by this- do you know how much of a kid’s attention a glop of this glue mixture can capture? Where has this been all my life??) Okay, next question. What’s your favorite book?

Selse: Fairy books.

Me: Any fairy books?

Selse: I read like lots of them.

(And now I wanna write a fairy book XD)

dsc_0031

Me: Who’s your favorite Disney princess? (random, I know)

Selse: *deep in thought* I like Moana. *grins*

Me: How come?

Selse: Because that’s my favorite movie.

(forward thinking on Selse’s part!)

Me: That’s awesome! Let’s see… do you have any pets?

dsc_0032

Selse: I got like, a puppy.

Me: Really?

Selse: A really small puppy.

(it’s as big as you, child! I don’t think so! XD)

Me: Does it have a name? (cringe- I hate calling animals “it”.)

Selse: *smiles* Bailey.

Me: *nods* She’s the chocolate lab, the *chokes* little black dog?

Selse: Yes.

dsc_0035

Me: *after chuckling because our friend was dramatically smushing her nose in the glass door* Okay, uh, um, if you could be with anyone in the world, who would you be with?

Selse: Ooh, my sister.

(aawww kid- me, too, me too.)

Me: Aww, that’s great! *hurries a bit* Do you or do you not like Ariel’s sisters? (I only hear the girls I watch sing “Part Of Your World” for like an hour on end, kay? I really wanna know!)

dsc_0037

Selse: *shakes head* I don’t like them.

Me: *a dumb interviewer* How come?

Selse: I don’t really like mermaids.

(Ehh, welp, sorry Ariel.)

Me: Okay, gotcha. *grins goofily, which is my permanent look* What do you think of unicorns? (Where did THAT come from?)

dsc_0038

Selse: They’re good.

Me: Would you ever wanna touch one?

Selse: *sighs* Yes!

(can’t tell if this is a happy sigh or an exasperated sigh, but here’s hoping for the former. πŸ˜› )

Me: Alright, do you like roller coaster rides, and what’s your favorite?

Selse: *gasps* Oh, in Canada’s Wonderland, those rides are SO good, I go on ALL *bangs fists on table* of them. *tilts head and smiles*

(Even…. BEHEMOTH?? Okay, this is truly a brave girl. How??)

dsc_0049

Me: Wow. Uh… what’s your favorite holiday, like, ever? (Yep, I said “like”.Β  I’m groaning now)

Selse: *looks back and forth and adorably props up her chin on her hands* *sighs* uh… Halloween and Easter!

Selse: And Valentine’s Day.

Me: Because of the candy?

Selse: *giggles* yes.

Me: And your favorite candy is….?

Selse: *thinks and drums her fingers on her table* Skittles, Kit-Kats, and pop rocks.

Me: Okay, cool! Okay, what do you think of pumpkin spice?

Selse: *dead serious* NO. No-o. *shakes head and pouts*

Me: *chuckling internally* YouΒ dont like pumpkin spice?

Selse: NO- and *gets excited* I also like Twix!

Me: *mishears* Twinkies?

Selse: *matter of factly* TWIX.

dsc_0054

*we laugh a little about my terrible hearing*

Me: Okay, okay, what do you think of millennial pink? (this.. wow. How do I even know what that is?)

Selse: Like this color? *touches her hairband, which has millennial pink written all over it)

Me: Yup!

Selse: It’s a just good color. *waves her hands like she’s patting someone for emphasis*

Me: cool. So: Hawaiian pizza. Evil or really good? (There have beenΒ debates about this for a while now XD)

Selse: *firmly* Good.

Me: Alright. Second to late question. Last question. Second question (make up your mind Jo): If you could go anywhere in the world, but you had to bring your brother, where would you go?

(Those two fight like cats and dogs)

(And then they love each other a lot too)

(Kids)

Selse: Canada’s Wonderland. (I ain’t trying to sponsor anyone, but they do have awesome rides :P) Or Disneyland!

Me: Nice! (also just appreciating how Selse picks the best places for her brother and her to go- and she’s just like that. Remind me to tell you about the time she was almost 5 and made up a song on the spot about their adventures) okay. Last question: If you could give any piece of advice, what would it be?

**************

The transcript ends here because of too much laughing and things which I have sworn to keep secret- only select friends can know. 😎 But, as messy and random as that was, I hope you enjoyed it! Top thanks to Selse for putting up with her weird babysitter and to her parents for still letting me keep an eye on her when they need me too. XD

Go out and talk to a younger kid today- maybe you’ll have better questions than I did! πŸ˜› One thing’s for sure: every kid, no matter who they are, have insights and sometimes downright funny answers- if someone just listens to them. πŸ™‚

Life’s a highway,Β

Scribble Scrabble: My Unsuccessful Attempts At Art, BIBPC Cat. 6, And Ducky

dsc_0294

I am not an artist.

I can’t paint for the life of me, sketching is a terrible horrible mess, and my last attempt at sketching a person they thought I was doing a self portrait. So looking back at my old sketches is… interesting, to say the least.

dsc_0011

You know those lovely eye sketches you see on Pinterest? Well, my 9 year old self thought it wasn’t a problem to copy.

Yeah right kid.

dsc_0010

And this was of my sister.. when she was sleeping. So points for creepy weirdness and for the strangest rendering of a person ever done. Eugh. My eyes.

All that to say, I can’t draw. The artistic gene in my family is not in my DNA. But for some reason, I still try anyway.

dsc_0013

Yeah. Same results. It looks weird.

But I try anyway, and there are some very rare sketches I do enjoy. Why? Who knows. XD I kinda wanna give up on art, but I can’t quite bring myself to do it. It’s beautiful.

So in honor of the kid that wouldn’t give up trying to draw a spectacular anything, here’s my picture for BIBPC Cat. 6- whose prompt just so happens to be epiphany. Shout out to Megan for the deep, hard prompts! XD

BIBPC Cat. 5 picture!

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is just keep trying. Maybe you’ll never get it right, or maybe no matter what you do there will be something wrong- a crooked nose, a twisted hand, a stray eye, a wisp of hair that looks like a curly fry, but you shouldn’t give up.

If you do, that’s cool. Your choice. But if you do, you miss out on the tiny victories and epiphanies you get when you try those tutorials and they actually look half decent. Such as the above.

I kinda rather like that one.

But until I get better, I’ll probably stick to my little Groot.

dsc_0016

Ain’t he adowable? πŸ˜€ If not, who hurt you. *pats Groot affectionately* Good little tree.

Also, if you’re dead on sketches, hand-lettering is pretty neat too. πŸ™‚

dsc_0014

Here’s to epiphany- to the aha! moments, to the people who work hard and wait for years to find those discoveries, and to those who want to give up. Hopefully you’ll have an epiphany too. But if you can’t just content yourself in these paintings I mock-made.

Oh, and my little ducky named Ducky, shown here playing on my guitar.

Bonus picture for BIBPC!

Ducky has been my longest and cuddliest companion, and he puts a smile on my face. So I’m giving his points for BIBPC and his cuddly little self to Team Fox of BIBPC. Enjoy, y’all! I would’ve shown him in his cool pose where he’s doing a fight stance, but Ducky insisted on a more natural pose. Of course, I informed him that his not being in the water is already the most unnatural thing for a duck. Which he then responded to by pulling out the Bill Of Equal Rights And Treatments Of Stuffed Ducks and told me I was violating Appendix A, Paragraph 5, Line 347: do not sass a duck.

These nonliving animals and their rights. It’s a struggle to remember them all.

Unfortunately, Ducky just read this.

He’s now making a petition for all humans to learn and study the BOERATOD and to volunteer for the PETA, and he’s getting Doggy, Kitty, Penguiny, Waddles, Beary, and Other Doggy to run his campaign.

….probably shouldn’t mention we’re having chicken for dinner, huh?

Happy Friday!

Let’s see. What else have we?

At the rink I saw a boy towing his little sister on the ice, the two of them giggling their heads off. I saw an old grey haired couple lacing up and whizzing around. I saw those tiny, extremely small kids take their first steps on the ice.

And fall.

And I saw a bunch of my characters on the ice. πŸ˜€ Or at least people who looked precisely like my characters. It was awesome.

dsc_0194

I am guilty of doodling on the church bulletin during the sermon… oops. I did pay attention, but.. yeah, no excuse XD Afterwards I rather liked this quote, so I kept it.

dsc_0191

dsc_0192

Went out on a thrift store hunt, and came back with a couple of beauties. My aesthetic is slowly coming out of the Pinterest board and into real life. I even got my dad to buy “good vibes only” mugs- which I never even picked. Heh. One day I’m gonna convince my parents to let me wear the grateful shirt to church. πŸ˜› Otherwise I have a whole ‘nother post simmering about why on earth girl jeans have no real pockets. That’s just messed up. Anyhoo.

Um….

Y’all thought I was the best new blog of 2018?

*gasps*

*dies*

I’m really grateful and shocked and surprised that I was even nominated for the Emmie awards and Megan’s Best Of- thank you so so much, and again, it’s surprising that enough people like my random drabble- it’s not like I post anything revolutionary on here. So thank you. XD

Speaking of, my blog’s almost a year old. *screams* WHAT. HOW. WHY.

I’d do a giveaway, but I’m not. >:)

So yes, that’s a little thing I’m happy about.

dsc_0197

I can’t draw for the life of me, but I managed for this little guy! *pats it* It’s stuff like this that encourages me to keep trying to draw. And write.

Cause, yes, I’ve been in a rut creativity wise. But looking at this, and re-reading old WIPS and Just Come Home, I guess I got re-inspired.

And y’know, for some reason it’s the little things that inspire me.

I hope these have inspired you too. But hey, if not, that’s cool too! Maybe they made ya smile. πŸ˜€

dsc_0193

I will end this by saying that life is beautiful and I was reminded of that getting to see my new nephew- it’s precious and beautiful and soft and demanding.

And it’s a blessing indeed- down to the little things.

Scribble Scrabble: BIBPC Cat. 5, Slgiht Life Update, And Drabble

dsc_0162

Hello there, I’m tired. Who on earth are you?

Well, whoever you may be, thanks for coming over here. This won’t take too much of your time.

So for the fifth category of BIBPC, which has the ridiculously tricky category “disguise”, here’s my lame attempt and showing that in a picture.

jo-team bear- category 5

It’s terrible. But I can explain. When I was trying to figure out this prompt, I remembered the one time me and my brother switched DVDs to trick our brother into thinking he was watching Cars when in reality he was getting The Avengers or something. Which I thought was funny. And thus translated onto this picture. Antman and the Wasp is disguised as Pete’s Dragon. Sneaky. And seeing that the deadline for Cat. 5 isΒ today, I didn’t really have a choice. XD I’ve been busy!

Thanks for reading. See you for the next drive.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Okay, if you scrolled this far, thanks for sticking with me. Because I shall now unload tragic backstory (TM) update on your poor brains. XD
This first week of January has been tough but good. School’s.. school. Slowly conquering that. Can’t complain.
I’ve gotten to read all the way to Luke in my Bible reading, and I’m really happy about that. Who knows, maybe I’ll read the whole New Testament before the summer! πŸ˜€
Look at that. The Piano Guys’ version of Rewrite the Stars came on and I’m energized now. The power of music.
Anyway. So a few days ago we got to watch Antman and the Wasp, and– I’m not sure if you’re into movie time with your family, but I am. It was so hilarious and good- actually it would be good if there was no swearing. Just saying. Anyway, it was hilarious, and the concept and the plot and the characters- my dad and I are now part of the “Give Luis his own movie” movement. The man is so great. I will probably love Scott Lang because he’s not an Enhanced. He messes up. He’s normal. He’s a dad. What makes him a hero is he wants to help. So yeah, I got character research done.
I haven’t touched Just Come Home in ever.
Yeah, I’m terrible.
But I HAVE been doing research for it- so if any of you guys are farm people, or live in small towns, or have family in the army CALL ME- I just found out my mom’s best friend lives off base during deployment, so I’m pretty excited to ask her some questions.
Weird, I know. But.. I want to be as authentic as possible. And I really wanna honor the people who live in small towns, on farms, and with family in the army/navy/marines/country’s defenses. So yeah. XD
I’ve been turning some of my poems into songs, and trying to get used to my voice. For those of you who’ve heard my covers on Welcome To Odyssey, you know it’s kinda on the squeaky side. But here’s hoping I can work on that- and that I don’t like… despise things about myself I can’t change. I have a habit of really really hating stuff about myself, and it’s gotta stop. Except I can still hate my sin nature and my temper and my doubts and anger because those parts of me areΒ bad. Sinful. And since I’m trying to live for God, they have to go. Boo. Shoo. Byeee.
But I mean like hating my voice, or that I’m awkward, or that I get really passionate about my interests. That kinda of stuff. That I’m too skinny or too inadept at volleyball, or that I’m not the best writer or I’m not perfect. There we go. I’m trying to stop hating that I’m not perfect. πŸ˜€
I’ve done a post about this before, but basically, God made me, “imperfections” and weird quirks and all. Who am I to say to hate that? To hate what God’s made and is making into something better? Does that even make sense? XD So I’ll laugh at myself singing originals to my camera and do it because I love singing.
Wow. I took 2 long paragraphs to say that? -_- Eh. I rant. What can I say?
Oh- happy almost Friday! πŸ˜€
-Jo πŸ™‚
